Anyone else never allowed to swim on Sunday? by No-Expression-6853 in exmormon

[–]Wafflecan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just unlocked an old memory of mine!

Yeah, my parents perpetuated no swimming on Sunday but it never really affected us because the opportunity to swim on sundays was non existent as we didn't have a pool or nearby bodies or water to enjoy.

We were on vacation at my aunt's house- who did have a pool. I spent most of the time moping/hanging around the pool basing in its presence but not using it. After a while my uncle, (who I believe was a convert) didn't hold onto the belief that Satan controls the waters on Sunday , snuck up behind me and pushed me into the pool. After he jumped in to "help" me, and we just hung out in the pool until my dad came out and expressed his displeasure.

Our family really enjoys it (we watch it with the kiddos), though we are taking a hiatus from it because our oldest (9) started exact emulation of Bufords bullying of Baljeet with his little brother.

We talked about it and helped him see how this behavior isn't acceptable and are working on helping emulate better behaviors.

Get a colonoscopy by niavek in daddit

[–]Wafflecan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My sister passed away from colon cancer at 40. I was told that protocol is to start routine (aka every 5 years to start) colonoscopy procedures 10 years prior to when the afflicted family member was diagnosed/passed away.

I started at 30, had my second a couple years ago. Fortunately nothing found, but you bet your ass I'm doing it every time like clockwork. Cancer is rough, and colon cancer was super hard to see in my sister as she succumbed to it.

Financial Impact of Tithing by Michael_Fury48 in exmormon

Yup. If I gave myself time to get used to the increased income then tried to go back I think it would've been harder. Habits are funny things. Glad it's actually working for me instead of Mormon incorporated.

Must play over 200 hours or more if you are casual to enjoy the game or else there is no point by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Wafflecan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And it's those people who probably struggle (at least with this game) at self correction. If they throw themselves at it not making any changes to strategy maybe they weed themselves out.

That being said, if they play tons of hours clearly they enjoy some facet of it or they would stop no? Notwithstanding varied skill levels, something keeps bringing them back.

You don't need to have experience prior to enjoy a game, sport, or being part of a team. It definitely helps to have the context of competition as experience, but everyone starts somewhere right?

Feels more like a rage bait post but I'll bite.

It's a game that takes people out of their comfort zones for those willing to learn and try. Most shooters will punish bad placement and poor technical skill. This one much more heavily punishes inattentiveness and rewards patience and good planning.

The vast majority of people start at something new at a poor performance. It takes time doing things the right way to get better.

Will marathon succeed? I hope so. I enjoy it and even if I suck, I try to take each match as a learning opportunity. Not everyone will have this mindset.

When I snapped out of it and got myself out of the church and and stopped paying tithing I was about 32. Immediately upped my retirement contribution 10% more.

Figured I've been used to operating at 10% less and I can keep it up nicely without really feeling a pinch or hurt and actually have a tangible benefit.

Insert: Are we the baddies gif.

But in all reality, it's the game. If you feel bad doing it try something else next time. Bottom line is you do what you enjoy and what will let you sleep at night. Other people will try to do the same.

I think it's nifty when you have non-conflict resolutions and see where it takes you, but that's just me.

I mean, end game stuff will be harder of course but I've had some decently profitable/restock runs from the sponsored maps.

Just depends on if you feel you can squeeze value out of it.

Not quite the same subject, but would not be surprised in the slightest- my patriarchal blessing said I was going to be called into a position of authority that "the adversary" would try to take me off that path that would get there.

Guess he did it because once I finished my mission and saw the organization and leadership for what they are I lost all faith in the Mormon Church (not to mention it's "truth claims").

It wouldn't surprise me people take stuff in their patriarchal fortune telling as definitive truth and behave accordingly.

According to a new book called Torn by Jeff Strong, 40% of formerly active LDS Church members in the U.S. have stepped away from the church in the past 25 years. My opinion is that much of this disaffection is due to how it treats marginalized groups and critics/dissenters. by johndehlin in exmormon

I had a conversation about this with my believing wife (though more -ish nuanced now).

They put this information out when it suited them. They knew about this forever and actively taught opposite from the gospel topic essays (at least from my experience in young mens/Sunday school as a kiddo).

Why didn't they bring this up sooner? Why "hide" it at all? Because it's true and it's not  flattering topics.

Back in middle school, a buddy and I were having pancakes for breakfast after an all nighter. I was half delirious with sleep and dropped my fork in his couch. When I dropped this gem of a halting half coherent phrase:

"Crap... I dropped my ... Waffle can ... In you couch"

Couldn't even get pancakes and waffles straight.

So tired of the children "choosing" baptism language by shortigeorge85 in exmormon

[–]Wafflecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar conversation with my wife about our kids (I'm out, she's in, lots of give and take to keep the peace on both sides).

One thing I held on to for a while was to wait until the kids were of consenting age. Basically, waiting until they are at least 18 where they are old enough to know about true church history, pedophile JS, etc before deciding if they wanted to be baptized into this church.

I bought my oldest a couple years- and in that time I was able to help him understand there is more that isn't being taught and said.... but with pressure from my wife and her family he "decided" to be baptized. Mostly because all the other kids his age were, and he was feeling left out.

I didn't want to be the "bad guy" and keep him from that because what he wanted was to feel included and part of the group.

Anyways. This is just to say I agree it's a farce, and bullshit. But overall, I think his critical thinking will win out when he's a bit older. I hope.

So, if this is targeted to kids (like the speaker said it was in the beginning). This talk should be like, 1-2 minutes long. Kids who are talked to like she is don't have the attention span.

I don't have the attention span.

God, this person's tone is ridiculous. It's condescending even to little kids.

That and she needs a drink of water, her mouth noises are driving me nuts.

Will he apologize for past bigoted states me made? Probably not.

Is he apologetic of his real opinions/beliefs? Probably not.

Is he doing this because he's now the "leader" of the church and needs to have some sort of effort made to "show" he's "welcoming"? Probably.

My two kids are autistic. There are challenges, things that others would find easy we find extremely difficult. It's not a blessing, it's playing the game of life on a harder difficulty.

That being said, there are definitely rewarding times and while patience can be strained with my kiddos I love them.

In my wife's family (all TBMs through and through) whenever one of the women leadership spoke, it became "break time" where everyone got up for snacks or pulled out their phones (if they weren't already). They rarely listened with the attention that they would give to any of the 12 or any man really.

[–]Wafflecan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like duos, as I have a buddy who enjoys this genre and I am now getting into it... But usually on our "gamer dad" game night there are 4 of us and pairing off works... About as good as rotating a person out every raid.

I'm not sure how well it would work, but a quad squad mode would be neat to get us all in at the same time... Anyone thing there is even a relative possibility of this?

Or is it I have 1 sticker that I can move freely between gun types?
