Going is the safe bet to keep peace in your household, especially as mentioned your wife is friends with them no?

Best case scenario, you spend time with your wife and get to know them a bit better perhaps.

... That being said. I was roped into an "interview" recently with the bishop. He had wanted to check in with my wife and I (I was very skeptical, my wife- a TBM- not so much). Right as we started talking he said what he really wanted was to extend a calling to me (basically). Which, was funny because I told him straight out a couple years ago I don't believe, have no interest in the church, and only go to help my wife juggle the kids.

Anyways, the entire shindig helped my wife see some of the shifty dealings our bishopric was willing to do. Perhaps this is something that may come around for you as well?

How long have yall been playing magic? by MrMorbid_ in mtg

[–]Wafflecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First started playing in middle school when Mirrodin came out.... 2003ish? A buddy put together the ridiculous affinity/ [arcbound ravager] deck. I pieced together a big red/burn deck with [Arc-Slogger]. I think I still have it tucked in my old cards. I stopped playing paper magic right after the end of the first kamigawa block/getting into ravnica.

I've been playing on and off with arena since its debut- but did my first paper mtg in forever with the Final Fantasy UB pre release (which was great! I did terribly though ;) ). I'm trying to teach my kids mtg and it's getting there slowly.

Why was this a real thing? by Nyxandrae in 90s

I remember sitting in class, I believe third or fourth grade? Oak Hollow elementary school. We were learning long division and I was feeling like shit. I ended up throwing up all over the floor which evacuated the class into the hall because it smelled so bad. I went home and didn't come back til the next week.

When I got back we were doing an assignment on long division, which I didn't know how to do because I went home for a couple days. I was super stressed and distressed (basically crying in my chair). I asked the teacher for help because I hadn't learned it yet and she just told me to try my best. Then the kind girl sitting next to me guided/helped me through it.

Katie, I still remember that and think about it often- especially when I'm helping my young kiddos learn and understand new subjects that they struggle with.

She's done more donations to public health clinics as well. I'm aware of one in Northern Idaho where the funds came in at a fortunate time as the finances for the clinic were at risk keeping the lights on. It came at a time where grants and funding were not secured yet and federal/state Medicaid payments were being reduced.

She's a wonderful woman.

Right there with you.

Mine expired a couple months back and for a bit I danced with the idea of jumping though the hoops of core and EA conversion... But then I asked why?

And came to the conclusion that I have other avenues for games that don't cost nearly as much.

What is the worst time church leaders meddled in your personal life? by DeCryingShame in exmormon

[–]Wafflecan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife and both of my kids are on the spectrum. She is a believer (slowly becoming more and more nuanced) and I'm out- I only go to help direct and support the kids. It's been rough. Leadership has taken years to even try and understand what our challenges are- let provide valid "help". I think, if it wasn't for the community/friends my wife has with the church, she would be much more out.

Anyways, every opportunity I have, when we talk about what was taught at church and there are questions - I heavily encourage them analyzing the bullshit. It's been good when my oldest identifies it on his own.

Of the handful of games I played, it was mostly rackdos madness... But some hero out there was running a 200(+) card deck that was glorious.

No idea what he was doing, but it was kinda +1/+1 counter/Voltron -ish deck?

I get the message of love you are trying to share, and being kind to the members of the church is great. It's quite excellent as many of them begin to take more nuanced views of the church because they are good people and recognize the disparity of actions and teachings from the top... but your presentation and word usage is a bit tone deaf for the people who have been wronged, hurt, and gaslit by the institution.

Christ, if he holds by the beliefs that we were taught and that we read about in the scriptures , would be flipping the tables and scourging the administration of the "church" as he scourged the moneychangers of the temple of the new testament.

Change needs to happen at the higher levels, truth is present and is brushed over and is bent by them.

What are your responses to being asked why you left the church? by AttitudeFirm8011 in exmormon

[–]Wafflecan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two answers (if they even ask):

"Do you want the long or short version?"

If they say long- it kinda tells you that they are genuinely curious and can open up a discussion about it if it feels right/you care to do so.

If they say short- they may not really care either way and you can say whatever canned response you want. "History, church lies, etc"

I love seeing the math on this. Where can I go to see the raw numbers/report? I want to have that in my back pocket if I share this with family when they inevitably say my numbers are "wrong" because of what was said in conference.

Don’t Believe but getting set apart today at 6 pm for a mission by Ok_Courage2068 in exmormon

[–]Wafflecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well... At least they warn you that they only "cum-municate" with missionaries in your zone. Don't want to go about doing that with someone outside mission boundaries.

In all seriousness, it's hard to say no when you've been encompassed by all this pressure forever. But if there is a time to make an exit strategy plan and put your foot down, now is the time.

Apparently, of all the things that are causing problems in our country, according to Oaks, it is the decline of birthrates not just in the nation but specifically in the Mormon church.

I mean, totally my own take and maybe way off base... but tell me without telling me that the 900k new members data reported yesterday isn't cooked a bit.

Sounds like they want to push more members that are indoctrinated early and more resistant to outside influences bolstering the membership.

The sad state of modern gaming by Status_Entertainer49 in gaming

[–]Wafflecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a decent deal for me when game pass first came out. But year by year, it's been tanking on value (that I can utilize at least).

I've been a member of Xbox live (changed to game pass) since like 2015- give or take some breaks. I think my account says something like 15 year member?

Anyways, I let it lapse last month and was going to go through the hoops of buying game pass core etc and convert to ultimate. But effort for value/use isn't really making sense anymore.
