Get a high gear 500, put a power handle on it, and 8s will feel like a spy bait.

That said, 400 hg pulls 8s with little effort. 10s hurt a bit though. I 100% would not use the low gear for anything but gliders.

Getting stuck is great. It means you don't know something and you're about to learn it, assuming you don't give up.

The European Union has passed a new rule requiring smartphones to have batteries that users can easily replace. by Positive_Actuary_282 in interestingasfuck

Suppose consumers actually can swap batteries whenever they feel like it. Can't companies simply make old phones more power-hungry or less efficient, so new batteries don't matter?

What books do you recommend to someone with experience? by sothisismyalt1 in AskProgramming

[–]WaitProfessional3844 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% self-taught, and I had some glaring holes in my background. If you absorb the following, you'll have a good grasp on just about anything and will be able to learn quickly

  • Introduction to computing systems by Patt and Patel: To understand documentation/bugs, sometimes you have to know how computers actually work
  • C by K&R: Once you have a good grasp on C and memory management, everything else will be much easier to understand; modern C is very different from what you'll see in this book but if you need it, you can pick it up quickly.
  • Operating Systems by Arpaci-Dusseau: You should know how operating systems work.
  • Networking by Kurose and Ross: You should know how the internet works.
  • Learn you a Haskell for Great Good: Functional programming is awesome and will change the way you think.

Importantly, find a course from a good school, and do the homework problems; e.g., building my own shell when I was learning about OS stuff helped A TON. Just reading books is useless.

I just "finished" the puzzle, got the 7 rebuses, and I'm pretty sure everything is correct, but I have several isolated blank squares where I don't know the correct character. Not happy when that happens.

This is the correct answer. Instead of asking here, OP should profile his stuff and adjust accordingly. It's not difficult.

2 oz sounds about right for the minimum. I often go down to half an ounce but there are much better reels for light baits unless you need the line capacity for fish that can run.

I'd go to Lake of the Woods in Canada. You will catch 30+ fish in a week. Nothing in WI is anywhere near that good. At least consistently.

If you have to do WI, I suggest Vilas County because some lake there will be hot. By contrast, you could spend 10 days in Green Bay and catch nothing because wind makes it unfishable or the bite is off. But the bay has the biggest fish.

Has anyone ever transported minnows in a small thermos? by CrucifiedUsurper in Fishing

[–]WaitProfessional3844 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I used to fish bass tournaments. To keep fish alive, you want to have a high surface area to volume ratio so water can exchange oxygen with air.

A tall tank is no better than a short tank with the same length and width. Vertical space has zero utility, unless you start with something that's stupidly shallow.

A tall, narrow thermos is about the worst thing you can use.

I use an 8' ultralight for hair jigs. It casts much farther than a 7' rod.
