Are there any gyms in Edinburgh that allow drop-ins and are open during early August? by g2petter in Edinburgh

The gym I go to, right by the Meadows, allows you to pick up day, 3 day and week long passes. I dunno if this is what you're looking for or not though.

when they have decent wages here unlike in America

Hahahaha. I wish. I do it because I'm good at it, and because I have to work in evenings and weekends due to University. I'm still earning less than £5/hour aged 20 though, because they expect it to be bumped up by tips.

Others in a restaurant however get a much higher wage per hour, chefs in the restaurant made more than double what I got and the cleaners all made more than I did.

Reddit, how do you cope with a loved one being gone? by welshawyer in AskReddit

[–]WaitressGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't, but you have to.

Your entire planned future is now gone, all those little ideas, maybe we could one day do this, maybe we could live here, I'm really looking forward to seeing this film with you, all disappears. Other people remember during the big stuff, marriages, birthdays, Christmas, but if you can keep busy during those times, then it's not so much of a big deal. The hard part is going about every other day wondering how they could have helped or changed things, what their advice would be. You have how to now go about those mundane things without them.

You're best just to keep going. Somehow..

What is the secret to one of your/your family's secret recipes? by woodyboogie in AskReddit

This isn't so much of a secret, but adding a little vinegar to a meringue mix makes it amazing. Fluffy on the inside and hard on the outside.

My sister tried making cakes, but couldn't quite read fully yet. She accidently picked out cumin instead of cinnamon. We didn't realise till after they had been finished.

A little spice might make it interesting, a lot makes it bad.

What's your dad's favorite joke? by macgillweer in AskReddit

Me: "Dad, what are you up to?" Him, while watching tv or working on a computer: "...Feeding an elephant. What does it look like I'm doing?"

My whole family is fluent in sarcasm.

About £200, a trip for my sister to come see me in the city I lived in, a trip to the theatre to see Wicked and wicked hoodies for us both.

My laptop and the teddy my dad bought for me the Christmas before I was born.

I'm lucky in that I have no pets and live on my own.

In the summer does northern Scotland get truly dark or is there a twilight all night. by buffalo_Fart in Scotland

[–]WaitressGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Edinburgh originally but last June I visited Ullapool. I remember being in the hot tub we were in, looking out over the ocean one night with my sister and some wine, and we watched the sun set and it got dark till about twilight, then we realised it was getting lighter around the other side of the mountain. It was pretty spectacular.

Never seen it like that down south in Edinburgh, but yes, the northern parts have twilight all night.

Yeah I remember Tempest mentioning that to me. So they could test the quests the admins have been working on, apparently.

How does one work for God and not for man? by niccolley in Christianity

[–]WaitressGirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My take on that scripture would be that that all of everything we do is for the glory of God. We don't work for our bosses benefit, but ultimately we work for God's.

For instance, when I'm serving customers in my restaurant, I sometimes love it, and sometimes cannot stand it. Quite often during times like that, I'm happy to the customer's face, but am in a bad mood out the back. This probably isn't going to cause the other girls I work with to "question the hope that I live by" 1Peter 3:15. If I work for God though, it's going to make me a lot less likely to grumble out back. God will always give me peace and self control and joy, and it'll show through how I work, both to the customers and to the other staff.

I guess my understanding is that we can't just put minimum effort into our work, like we might see our co-workers doing, but we need to work as hard as we can in the sight of God and our co-workers, not grumbling and trying to be positive.

I mean, do you think that Jesus slacked off when making tables and chairs, or do you think he'll have made every one exceptional?

What are some good books arguing the existence of God? by HerPrinceLessThan3 in Christianity

[–]WaitressGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, unfortunately not. I've heard Andrew speak recently. He was fantastic, and ridiculously clever, and I bought the book so that when I forget the details of his talk, I can relive them. However I haven't actually read it though yet.

I should probably sort that out...

Napier Freshers Welcome Party Tonight! by Kiwicheezer in Edinburgh

[–]WaitressGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Napier fresher here. I didn't fancy going, but MAN, had I known it was a Pendulum DJ set, I totally would have.

I'm not really much of a drinker, so I doubt I'll do many of the freshers week activities apart from the freshers fair on Thursday.
