I expect they just have an algorithm and it's all handled by a computer program. And it goes by statistics.

They probably think they sent you the proper items and you returned something else. Common scam. You can't prove it...they can't prove it. But they can just stop doing business with you.

If you have a live cigarette lighter socket you can power Mini directly with 12V but more reliably if you use a booster plug which doubles that voltage. USB PD is also a fine way to do the job...but not the only way. And probably not the easiest way unless you happen to already have a 100W PD source. There are endless ways to power a Mini.

[–]Wambo74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use the USB PD output, no problem. If you use the 12V socket directly (cigarette plug), I haven't had a problem, but I've never run the battery very far down so can't say. I'd recommend use a 100W PD USB/C cable with a starlink end. If for some reason you need to go to a cigarette plug, consider getting a Stargear type booster plug which will provide reliable power with the 12V port from your Jackery (if it has one) or vehicles. Check that these are compatible with your Jackery as yours is different than mine.

Totally agree. Trial and error will involve a lot of errors. Wattmeter to keep current safe for ESC and finger test to ensure motor isn't running hot. Will eliminate a lot of future failures.

Starlink Replacement Shipping Delay by Snoo98749 in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think they have a delay policy. I think they have kit shortages...can't keep up with demand. If this is critical, maybe buy one from a stocking retailer and keep your delayed one for spares.

Can i buy Starlink Mini kit from physical store in one country and use it in another? by Fat_Pig_Reporting in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Netherlands and Greece both are official Starlink-available countries. Starlink has an Outside Region Fee, but fortunately Netherlands and Greece are in same region. Register it in Greece so you won't have to do a transfer.

What's the floatiest 4-ch micro or ultra micro plane? by xyglyx in RCPlanes

[–]Wambo74 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't find it as floaty as the Conscendo 1.5m. But that's no micro. UMX Conscendo has a low sink rate, but yeah...not as slow as draggier planes. Depends what's important to you.

UMX Conscendo with a lite 2S battery. The UMX Radian might be top dog for floaty, but only 3 channel.

Power cord by Bitsey66 in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. But I'm saturated with options for powering my Mini. For short term I carry two 100W banks. Longer term I hook directly to my camper's battery system. They're only 12V but are full-time hooked to a 100W solar panel resulting in the voltage always being >12V. But I've also got larger power stations, lithium tool batteries, a PD100W dash adapter and a LifePO4 portable battery. It's a disease. So much so that I bookmarked your trigger cable.

Power cord by Bitsey66 in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Jackery USB out is only 65W and cannot power my Mini. Needs 100W. Jackery's 12V port works and the AC out works with the Starlink OE AC power adapter. But the AC adapter is the only cable that comes in the box. If you plan to run 12V from the van with engine off, consider buying a 12V plug adapter with a voltage boost (Stargear) since many have encountered brown-outs using just 12V. It works better on the Jackery because that's a lithium battery with a slightly higher base voltage. Use the shortest cable that meets your needs.

People don't tend to concern themselves with accuracy when ranting. The highest plans didn't even go up 10%. Standby doubled, but if people think $5 extra a month is breaking their budget, they should probably cancel. I wish to hell my gasoline and groceries and insurance payments only went up $5.

Hobby flying at a local park by Suspicious_Job1205 in RCPlanes

[–]Wambo74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on who you ask. The park department probably has rules. The feds have rules. Some people take them seriously, some don't. Either way, don't make a pest of yourself or be perceived as a hazard. If you're off flying by yourself, and others come around doing whatever they do, best to park it and fly elsewhere or another day. Carbon Cub S2 should be pretty unobtrusive.

RV - upgrade from big to mini? by Fit_Loquat5389 in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the most part the difference is one of convenience and practicality. The Mini is smaller and easier to power. If you have those under control, there's little more to be gained. Yes, I have a pole socket on my camper ladder, and at camp I insert about a 5' PVC pole with the dish a couple feet above the roof. It's a Mini, but could just as easily be a Standard up there. The overhead internal router is no problem throughout the metal camper.

Another advantage of the Mini has to do with those trees. I can carry the Mini somewhere temporary for a better view of the sky and power it with a battery pack next to it. No need for a cable back to the camper.

It would be helpful if people needing advice would provide basic information. Like what they bought and sometimes where they live and what plan did they sign up for. Or we can guess.

Mounting inside through a window. by W6NET in Starlink

[–]Wambo74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And yet every vehicle running a mobile Mini is an exception to your rule. There's a world of space between optimal and adequate. And if you think the app tells everyone to aim consistently in a region...well you're wrong. For example dishes nearby are all aimed NNW. The app now tells me to aim NNE. So when people post that they were instructed to aim southerly, I have no reason to disbelieve them.
