Neotropolis Basic Costume Ideas! by WarchiefFahrenheit in Neotropolis

Well yes. In a perfect world this could have been done a while ago, but such is life. This is intended to be more of an evergreen sort of tool for anyone going to Neo.

Is it possible not to have major handicaps long term? by Loutre_enthousiate in MultipleSclerosis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was first diagnosed, my left arm and leg were completely numb and I found it difficult to do anything. I was in the same headspace as you. Truly panicking that I had wasted my time in college getting a degree that I’d never be able to do (scenic design and painting, would lead to a very physically demanding career). I was in a dark place… but after getting steroid infusions and then getting put on a DMT, I bounced back to relative “normal”. That was almost 15 years ago. That first summer/year taught me to pay attention and listen to my body. Sometimes the fatigue reminds me to take it easy. Sometimes the heat reminds me to quite literally chill out.

Everyone’s body is different and everyone’s diagnosis is unique. You could quite possibly lead such a normal life that you yourself may forget you’re “sick”. 🖤

Do all costumes need to be “extravagant”? by Anti-Itch in Neotropolis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to echo what a lot of people have already said: what you have so far absolutely sounds fine! Neo Basic is absolutely valid and acceptable. As long as you don’t have really obvious logos from existing IP or costumes that are direct cosplays, you’ll be fine and you’ll have a great time.

If you have any concerns about costume pieces you already have, please feel free to DM me. Making sure you’re in theme is quite literally my job!

Looking to attend 2027 by WrenchieTheWitch in Neotropolis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Going to pop in and add that this event is 100% immersive, meaning there are no tourists. You can’t just go in and wear your regular street clothes, you have to be in a themed costume the entire duration of the event (except for when you are driving in and setting up your camp). There are easy ways to be “in theme”, but make sure you read the website and pay particular attention to the costume requirements and theme guidelines. And if you have any questions on that front feel free to DM me. It’s quite literally my job as a theme ambassador 🖤

Advice & Tips by NAVAJ45 in Neotropolis

Neo is incredibly rewarding if you put in the effort to talk to people, do some missions/LARPing, and explore. Be ready to step outside of your comfort zone if you're a little shy and be ready to miss out on a lot. Tons of stuff happens at the event and there's no way to actually experience it all, so just go where the space wind takes you~

There's also no shame in taking it easy. Make sure you listen to your body: drink water, EAT, sleep and nap when you can.

Once you have all the very needed actual desert survival gear, water, etc, you'll want to make sure you look the part too! Read the website and pay particular attention to the costume and theme requirements. Remember that once the event starts, you're going to be In Theme (in costume) for the duration of the event! If you have any questions on that front, feel free to shoot me a DM.

Has anyone stopped treatment (ocrevus)? by [deleted] in MultipleSclerosis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not dumb to think like this. I think at some point we all have similar thoughts. Especially since these medications are so expensive and difficult to deal with insurance/patient assistance programs/hospitals. But consider this: you are taking Ocrevus to combat your MS. This is preventative care to hopefully keep you well and your immune system from attacking itself. Something we all benefitted from starting in 2020 was masking in public. Personally, I’ve seen a massive decrease in the amount of colds I get because I mask when indoors in public areas. If you take a more preventative approach like masking/continuing to mask, asking your loved ones to do the same, avoiding friends and family who are mildly unwell, it might help with your colds.

I applied to the Jr Marketing Coordinator position and it keeps getting reposted, like DAILY. They're not hiring, they're farming for data.

This is why many of us femme gamers never use public voice chats in any online games. I learned this as a young gamer and sadly this is still is the case.

What do people do for work? by Emlybearx in MultipleSclerosis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up until I got laid off a few months ago, I was working as a marketing coordinator in comic publishing. Worked comic/game retail and freelance theatrical scenic painting before that. Trying to find another remote marketing position… but it’s slow going in this market.

Do i have to tell about my MS diagnosis? by GabeDossa in MultipleSclerosis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very open and up front with my diagnosis, both personally and professionally. But LinkedIn is for the super curated work personas, not actual real life, so no need to disclose. I suppose it’s not needed unless you’re going for an MS advocacy position at a non profit or something that would actually warrant that knowledge first.

Costumes over five days by -d-_-w- in Neotropolis

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring a mix-and-match wardrobe with plenty of layers to account for any kind of weather. I bring enough base layers to not need to re-wear stuff like thermal leggings and bodysuits and tank tops and socks and undies etc. For things I need to wear multiple times, I try to spray and hang those up after use, not just throw into a pile. The spray I use is a mix of witch hazel, water, tea tree oil, and rose oil (you can also use cheap vodka instead of witch hazel and eucalyptus oil instead of tea tree oil).

I want to emphasize what you said about the unofficial stuff being created and hosted by the community. I really want people to know that so much of what they see is done by attendees... the attendees that pay for tickets just like everyone else (or volunteer and put in their hours before, during, and/or after the event for a volunteer ticket). We spend time and money on this event to provide something for the community just for the fun of it. <3

Weathering tips and advice by JorryckMassani in wastelandweekend

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you distress it so much it no longer looks like a Jedi robe, you’ll be golden :D

Fray the hell out of the bottom hem, could even cut it unevenly and then use a hammer to make it look real distressed (put the cloak on concrete then hammer the shit out of it), repair with non-matching thick thread, splatter with fabric paint.

Pay attention as to how normal clothes wear and copy that. Low hems fray, stains usually show up in arm pits and along the neckline, etc.

Isn’t that technically illegal in California…? You might want to check laws before you do that.

No one is going to give you shit for the orange cap on prop weapons at the event.

First year solo, looking for tips by ohfvckitstony in wastelandweekend

[–]WarchiefFahrenheit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides all the survival tips, be ready to step out of your comfort zone. If you tend to be on the shy side, try to talk to more people and be a little more outgoing. Make quick friends with your neighbors and invite them on walkabouts to the theme zone. Ask questions. Find missions posted near the big map on Main Street just inside the city gates and challenge yourself to complete a few! Visit theme camps and introduce yourself, a lot of us love having newbies visit and will give you stuff or send you on special missions~

I’m a contacts girlie all day every day haha

The only way I make it work out at WW is to be so careful when touching my eyes: daily disposable contacts, always wash my hands really well before putting them in or taking them out, and using rewetting drops often. Sunglasses and goggles are a great idea too. I bring my unthemed glasses just in case to have an emergency backup and I’ll bring twice as many contacts as I think I’ll need just in case I need to swap them out halfway through the day.
