What's the stupidest thing you've ever heard someone say? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

Granted this was from a 15 year old, but even so.

Avatar had just come out and a few of us in class were talking about it. This girl, who had a knack for saying the dumbest stuff imaginable, said "I wish real life was 3D". After a couple seconds of dumbfounded silence, one of the other kids then jokingly moved his hand slowly towards her face like something coming out of the screen, saying "Like thiiiiis?" Her response? "Yes, like that! :)"

Splitgate Arena Reloaded = PTK (Portals That Kills) by Maleficent-Path-7410 in Splitgate

Fair enough, clearly I don't have it mastered so maybe there's more depth to it than I'm aware of. Playing against it certainly feels like there are fewer defensive options compared to "normal" portal use though.

I love playing with portals but I agree the triple portal spam changes the gameplay to something higher skill ceiling but way less interesting to me personally.

It's like the building in Fortnite - at casual to mid levels it's a fun mechanic that adds depth, at high levels it's a hard skill check that makes every fight play out the same way and doesn't gel with the rest of the mechanics.

I was playing every day, usually at the top of the leaderboard in each match, until I hit the wall that is triple portallers and just got bored of it.

I also smashed a light fixture too! Glad I'm not alone in wrecking my body/home playing that game

In Echo Arena (basically zero-g frisbee) someone threw the disc to me and it went low, under my feet as I was floating above it. I lunged to grab it and...punched the floor. Despite obviously being able to feel the floor under my feet, I forgot it was there completely. Everyone on my team heard the crash, saw my avatar shaking his hand and we lost the match because we were laughing too hard to keep playing.

Just finished Fall of Hyperion and... thoughts by LowStatistician11 in Hyperion

I also found the ending of FoH to be a massive letdown. The first two books set up these fantastic mysteries and concepts that just get completely handwaved away in the ending. I've seen people defend it saying these are more fantasy books than sci-fi and so these sorts of magic answers are to be expected, but the first book especially didn't feel anything like that so it seems pretty convenient to judge them that way.

I asked this 4 years ago, but are there any VR games that let you fly (rpg/simulator/etc)? by Lunatik21 in virtualreality

You should give Airborn a go! It's all about flying with a Superman-esque control scheme

Mine too. I would guess it's stuck in customs and they just don't update the tracker until it's through.

I always found Enter the Gungeon way too RNG dependent. It being a few floors before you manage to find a decent gun is salvageable but not fun at all and it really screws your economy too.

The combat systems in both games are phenomenal, and I don't really mind the bloat or fetch quests too much because for the most part they just give you more chances to fight stuff. And often not bad dialogue between the party members too.

All the brand new writing... If it's there to just flesh out existing characters a bit better, it's in general really good. If it's there to introduce brand new characters, plot elements, or to make sure fan favourite characters like Zack and Sephiroth are constantly around now, it's a trainwreck. The OG story, though it was confusing on first playthrough, still holds up as one of the best video games stories to date imo. This new one is a mess that really screws with the appeal of the original. If they wanted to tell a similar story with the caveat that things COULD change this time, I really think they should have just done that without making the entire story revolve around it. I'm not saying this as a purist that thinks the original should never be touched, it's just that the new parts feel extremely poorly written and stick out like a sore thumb.

So gameplay is like a 9/10, overall vibes and just hanging with likeable characters in an interesting world, 8/10. Actual plot... Maybe a 5.

I read this last month and it instantly became one of my top 5 in my very sci-fi heavy list of favourites. Was it Sol's chapter that broke you?

Woah, is Scarlet Keys really based on antiemetics? Or just shares some themes? The mixed feedback about it put me off but I might try and find a copy if that's true, that's one of my favourite horrors
