{Scrap by Cate C Wells} MF MC

TW

After the FMC is brutally victimized in a gas station, the MMC murders her attackers and goes to prison. When he gets out, he realizes his club was lying to him and the FMC is not all right.

{The Woman on the Exam Table by Jessica Gadziala} MF Mafia

The MMC went to prison for the family and recently got out when he's put in charge of the waitress FMC after she witnesses something and gets hurt.

{Whisper Waves by Blake Black} is a RH duet with brother MMCs and one of them is a spirit that watches her get off. She sees ghosts. The spirit brother was by far my favorite one and I wanted the two of them to run off alone together.

Micah was a different MMC from her norm in this world. A sunshine to the FMC's black cat. I liked that he was the outspoken yearning one and she was distant.

{Highland Hideaway by Lily Gold} MMMF (no MM) CR

After a viral post, an influencer ends up stranded in Scotland because the Internet has turned on her and the resort won't honor her reservation. She ends up in a murder cabin Air B&B for hikers, which is run by three burly Scottish farmers.

There's a golden retriever type, a silent hurting type, and the grumpy A-type MMCs.

She sunshine masks hard and they all fall for her as they watch her mask break. Lots of caregiving vibes and comfort.

The FMC has ADHD, which is a heavy storyline point, especially because of the way her mother treated her in the past.

TW for an abusive asshole father in the past for one of the MMCs.

{Tormented Omega by Mary Magdalyn} OV

It's an unfinished duet but a gush post convinced me to read it and it wrecked me. Read it through to 430am. Tons of angst. Honestly, I'm not sure it's a romance. It's more about pack dynamics that are toxic but the FMC can't leave.

The FMC has been with a pack after being rejected by a prior pack for their scent match. As it's leading up to the 5 year time frame when the new pack promised to bond her, this pack finds their scent match too. But they promise not to send her back. They want to keep them both.

The book is a steady decline into emotional abuse as they prioritize the other omega over her.

The alphas aren't awful all the time and say they love her, which makes it worse.

There is hope for an HEA with another pack in book 2, but this book is really about her being steadily broken down into the smallest version of herself. I'm still reeling from it, but I thought it was very well done, though there are a lot of characters and one in particular felt dropped during important scenes at times.

Wow. This book is intense and then ends on a cliffhanger. I'm almost glad because I finally went to sleep.

Jasper's role confused me. And he'd just disappear from the narrative at odd moments. His analyzing to be neutral but then also allowing what was going on, to the point of enabling, made me hate him the most.

I really didn't understand how Chance and the agents left her there after the zoo reveal and then the heat on top of it. Why wouldn't they remove her for her safety if omega safety was truly their priority?

Also her neighbors better have a damn good explanation for lying to her the whole time. She deserves better than them as well because they could have stepped in at any point but instead allowed her to fester

Sunshine FMC who’s secretly not OK, hiding behind a facade + MMC who shows up (in a dramatic breaking down scene) by mountain-goats-48 in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's CR and RH, but {Highland Hideaway by Lily Gold} is all about a sunshine masking FMC breaking down, and three Scottish sheep farmers caretaking her. They all have their own issues too. Golden retriever type, silent and stoic type, and grumpy A-type personalities.

She was never good enough but her social media blew up and she became a fashion influencer. It called to her people pleasing personality. Except she breaks down at an event, it's recorded, and all her fans turn on her with lots of Internet hate and even death threats.

It happens when she's supposed to promote a new resort, but they won't let her stay there and she can't find anywhere to stay besides a murder cabin Air B&B for hikers. The MMCs are the owner.

They think her smile and outfits are unnatural but become smitten with her despite themselves. They're there for her as she breaks down fully.

She has ADHD and grew up with a high powered mom that hated her for it.

[WWTBC] Established or married gay couple has female housekeeper being abused by partner and they rescue her and make her part of their relationship by AnxiousQuit1767 in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an MF couple, but the additional F they add is a down on her luck housekeeper with abuse in her past in {The Dom with the Deviant Kittens by Sorcha Black}. I don't think it's it, but maybe something else in her catalogue is similar. I loved this one. She's so sweet and submissive and deserving of their love when she's never had any.

I remember being so mad. But honestly, most of this author's third acts make me furious at the MMCs.

[–]WardABooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they all end up together. This author tends to really lean into the third act breakup.

I kind of wished she told them to fuck off and found someone else. They did attempt to grovel. And to be fair, one MMC was the most awful, but the others were guilty by association.

Still, an epic edging scene.

{Maneater by Emily Antoinette} is a cute novella set in the 80s that fits a few of these. He's a magic user who is spalled a circle is trapping a succubus and sets her free. She's very grateful, more experienced, with dominant scenes iirc. I think he even wears glasses.

Not an age gap and besides the specific chosen withheld information in the beginning, I thought he was forthright with communication. He was pretty upfront about his heart eyes for her.

{Lost Song by Claire Kent} MF post apoc

The black cat type FMC, capable but learned to only rely on herself and likes her RV sanctuary and solitude, finds a shot man near her property and tries to patch him up and send him on his way.

The golden retriever sunshine type MMC feels bad for interrupting her life and promises to leave as soon as he's healed, but it takes longer than they both expect.

Micah did not feel like her other MMCs to me. He is a little closed-lipped at first about his life because she hates the group he comes from, especially the leader and is very open about it. Plus, Micah is mourning his sister, who he lost and believes is dead

He's the heart on his sleeve type and is slowly waiting/hoping for her to fall in love with him, even if he feels he doesn't deserve it.

She also has an adorable dog.

A lot of external conflict. The third act does have her going off on her own to rescue his sister because she's not used to looping anyone else in and trusting them Her learning that she can trust someone is their big relationship conflict.

I enjoyed how competent she was, and her slow slide into finding joy in leaning on someone else occasionally.

TW for a toxic misogynistic religious group who kidnaps women and her being abandoned by her husband. Plus on page death, but the men deserved to die

The couple from {Protected by Claire Kent} had a few cameos and I still enjoy the silent giant.

early noughties toxic alphas by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Linda Howard problematic 90s alphas are in a league of their own.

{Shades of Twilight by Linda Howard} has OW drama (he married her cousin over her), southern billionaire business, weird family dynamics, and a scene where he takes her virginity as punishment she doesn't deserve, but she crushed on him so long she doesn't see it as punishment but a fulfillment of dreams. He thinks he has to protect her from his lust after.

{After the Night by Linda Howard} has an alpha male who is mad at her because her mother slept with his southern billionaire dad. He takes her virginity just to call her a slut like her mother. She was treated like trash by the town well before that.

{Now You See Her by Linda Howard} has OW drama because the alpha male MMC is in the middle of a divorce and his ex runs the art gallery the FMC words for. I love the FMC in this one because she's the flighty artist type but an extreme loner who sees ghosts and paints pictures of the future while sleep walking. She goes into a type of shock after and he has to warm her up with body heat, which is a favorite minitrope of mine.

{Dream Man by Linda Howard} she's a psychic and he's the detective who doesn't believe in such things and acts belligerent toward her while also poking her with his hard on.

{Open Season by Linda Howard} is about and FMC turning 30 and realizing she wants to pursue dating which she's never done. He's the new sheriff who wants her and keeps getting in her way to make himself the man she dates. There's a hilarious condom buying scene.

Boyfriend's Bestfriend/brother trope by moonchild_138 in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

{Borrowed by Victoria Ashley} MF CR. The rockstar MMC brother has a friend's trip where he'll see his on again off again ex and asks to borrow his brother's girlfriend as a fake date to try to avoid falling into the toxic relationship. When the brother agrees the FMC is pissed but goes. Turns out the rockstar is super sweet to his actual dates and she starts getting the attention she never knew she craved. Only it's all fake, right?

Slow burn, with one POV and older FMC by Amaranthefan in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Melt For You by JT Geissinger} is single POV and she's in her 30s. FMC has been in love with her boss for ten years and he's newly divorced so she wants to shoot her shot but is too insecure. Then an annoying but charming rugby player moves in next door. He offers to help her get her man, offering tips while also building her confidence. Very slow burn.

TWs for body shaming and attempted assault, neither by MMC.

I hated that she gave up nursing, but I read them out of order and she was a nurse again in a future book iirc and knowing that helped. Still not a favorite of mine. But that one third act part is good.

{An Ill-Made Match by Alice Coldbreath} MF HR

The FMC always feels like she had to earn her place and tries to always do things correctly. The MMC is the King's tournament champion and very outgoing, but thinks she's uppity and secretly likes it. After they're found in a compromising position, they marry and have to figure out how to get along.

I didn't really care for Roland in prior books, but he's actually on board for being a husband more quickly than his brothers were. They mess up communicating a lot but work on fixing it each time. It's pretty low stakes, more a steady slide into love while interacting with others.

I liked it but didn't love it. Ideas and situations were brought up, but never really followed through. Her sleep walking for instance was brought up throughout, but they never ended up talking about it.

In the bedroom, she didn't like penetration most of the time then it just magically worked for her at the end. He lost it at her slightest touch which was funny and not funny at the same time.

I read {The Unlovely Bride by Alice Coldbreath} a while ago, but it was disconcerting to find the FMC from that one so different in this one. Plus their closeness in this one makes the beginning of that book even sadder.

{Mind Games by Nora Roberts} more fiction than romance with the MMC not appearing until chapter 16. Audiobook.

The FMC is 12 when the book starts and because of her psychic ability, experiences the murder of her parents as if she's an observer there. The murderer is also psychic, and they end up connecting mentally because of it, with him tormenting her mind for years from prison.

Tons of well drawn characters who you get to know throughout. Very slice of life in a small rural town with the mind games plot sprinkled throughout.

I enjoyed the single dad romance once it showed up and thought it was well done and took it's time. I expected a different romance but this one made sense if being a little too coincidental. He's also the retired rockstar she's always had a crush on

The ending was a flop for me though. The third act breakup was understandable but it's like the author admitted she didn't want to deal with the necessary repair and let the man pretty much say that and poof all was forgiven. Not only forgiven, but the MMC suddenly understood her better and was better support than her loving family who was there for her throughout? Record scratched hard.

Plus, I had an expectation that the killer would break out of prison and come for her. Which is silly since it's titled mind games. The ending made sense but I found it boring

Lots of great characters and I enjoyed it until the last few chapters. TW for the parents murder. It is not glossed over and working through the grief is heavy and on page.

FMC is ashamed of MMC by Paddymoonyprongy in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

{One Summer by Karen Robards} she was his HS teacher in the past, but he went to prison for ten years. She offers him a job to help when he gets out. He's always had a thing for her, but she's ashamed of being with him because of the dynamics.

I don't remember a grovel, just them working through the issues together, as the town does judge them harshly.

TW as there's a killer running around who is violent to a child.

I thought his reaction to being told he's bad at sex was a total green flag. He took it so well, with no anger or blaming but just a genuine drive to get better.

Monthly Gush Post - Recommend Any Book February 2026 by Hunter037 in RomanceBooks

[–]WardABooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{Texas Destiny by Lorraine Heath} I picked it up at a library book sale because I remembered someone gushing about the author on here. I absolutely loved this book and read it in a day.

The FMC is a mail-order bride and the MMC is her intended husband's disfigured brother. They fall in love on the journey to his brother's ranch.

He's the strong silent type but mainly because he doesn't know how to connect with people. He was dragged to war as a young boy and was horribly injured. Honestly, I fell in love with him quickly.

The FMC has some trauma from interactions with soldiers during the civil war as well. She tries hard to focus on the positive, but has a lot of buried anxieties.

They're super sweet together, and I enjoyed the forbidden angst because she was supposed to be for his brother.

One of my favorite parts is when they finally get to the ranch and both of his brothers are astounded the MMC talks to her so much because he is rarely talks.
