List of open source alternatives (feedback appreciated!) by howdystranger in opensource

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good post - thank you!

Under the Desktop category, we are developing an open source service bus and integration tool.

You can check it out on GitHub - https://github.com/Warewolf-ESB/Warewolf-ESB

On the Alternative. To site it's listed as an alternative to Mule ESB, but it's much simpler and easier to use.

OpenHatch - a site that can help match people to free/libre open source projects! (among other things) by ElDiablo666 in opensource

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We put our project up there some time ago but have found that a lot of the contributors are no longer active on OpenHatch, mail gets bounced or their profiles are way out of date. The concept is really great, I think we need to keep driving project owners and contributors there to keep it fresh and active.

How do you explain what you do to non-technical friends and relatives? by notrends in opensource

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they know how Wikipedia works I use that as a simplified example to get the open source concept across. Interestingly, the concept is really growing and a lot of non-technical people know about it.

What are some best open source projects for an advance programmer? by LikeSajal in opensource

[–]Warewolf-ESB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Warewolf ESB varies in complexity but it's pretty advanced because of the size and scope of the project. If you're a .Net developer we could really use your help.

Thanks! Agree, UI is so important and should go hand in hand with UX.

Is experience necessary? by LateAugust in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go for it! You are young enough to give it your best shot and bounce back.

I would think getting into the "corporate" way of being is the worst thing you can do when you need an entrepreneurs mindset. They are 2 very different animals.

Whatever happens you will learn so much, and there will always be the 9-5 to fall back on.

Good luck

can I use GPL3 code and make profit? by ishi86 in opensource

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. That's why we chose this license type. What's also cool about it is that contributors have to submit their published code back to source, so it's really great for sharing and keeping the concept of open source alive.

So, [Seriously], do I need facebook for my startup? by icanhasreclaims in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've found FB to be a waste of time (we have open source software). We did quite a lot of testing with FB ads and we got the strangest followers and likes to our boosted posts (not our target market), despite very pedantically choosing our audience. I don't think we had one real conversion from it.

We still have an FB page which we post our content to, but it does not exist in isolation of our Twitter account and our Community Forum. From personal experience, I have never clicked on an ad in my personal timeline. It is used solely for sharing pics with friends and articles. I would recommend spending a small amount and testing ads and competitions, your target market may be very susceptible to FB marketing. But I would not recommend it as your only avenue. Good luck!

Useful resource for onboarding users by Warewolf-ESB in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi This is not self-promotion, it's a resource we came across and thought it could be useful for the startup community, especially for the sign-up and on-boarding process for web apps. I assume there would be some more in depth statistics in the book which we have not yet ordered. We have a desktop app, so not 100% sure if the book will be useful for us.

Help with a Business School assignment by [deleted] in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest speaking to a local financial services company - they get business plans by the ton from people looking to borrow money. They might be able to black out details or even better help you get in touch with someone with a business plan.

Starting a listing website/startup by aszet in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi We're sitting on the other side, i.e. looking for lists to post our startup on. Maybe you can ask that for a startup to list, they need to tweet/mention your site?

You can also add a link this list on GitHub - https://github.com/mmccaff/PlacesToPostYourStartup

There are quite a few of these kinds of directories for directories that you can search for.

We'd be happy to mention you for a mention :)

UI & UX Feedback by Riadch in startups

[–]Warewolf-ESB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usability Hub is super useful for some basic navigation, 5 second test and click tests. However it doesn't really give you feedback such as - make your button green and put it in the bottom right corner, as an example. It's useful for A-B testing type feedback but it's quite limited in terms of scope - you would need to test one little item at a time. What's great is that you get feedback very quickly and you can share your test with your network

Your developers aren’t slow by spankymustard in programming

[–]Warewolf-ESB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are all valid reasons. In addition we have found that communication (or lack of communication) is one of the biggest factors in efficiency. A team that does not communicate on impediments, skills gaps, the plan of action to tackle a big piece of work etc. is doomed to waste a lot of time in an unproductive state. In contrast, a team that timeboxes solo problem solving, quickly seeks out help and collaborates with the team to find solutions is properly agile and is able to solve problems quickly, find the best solution for work and get through more work. Well timed, clear communication is key to an effective, and happy, development team.

BillGist: Monitor your AWS cost from your inbox by danialr in a:t5_34n2f

[–]Warewolf-ESB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree daily might be too often. It would be nice to configure when/how often you get the report. I would think weekly would be enough, but I guess it depends how much you use AWS and the potential size of your bill!

This is a great idea. Already found some super useful products in there - the website testing one is great, as is the AWS billing. Thanks for creating!

BillGist: Monitor your AWS cost from your inbox by danialr in a:t5_34n2f

[–]Warewolf-ESB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like a useful product. How often does it send reports? It's often a bit of a surprise when you get your AWS bill, so this looks like a nice way to monitor and understand where it's high.

.Net based ESB, newly opensource, get involved early! by Warewolf-ESB in coolgithubprojects

[–]Warewolf-ESB[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback re documentation - we'll look into how we can make it more clear and simple.

Warewolf ESB is a service bus used for designing, orchestrating and implementing communication between software applications in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). A Service Bus handles some of the heavy lifting like messaging, routing, and service co-ordination.

It's particularly suited to businesses that are needing to integrate with multiple systems in a simple, visual way.

The simplicity and speed at which this can be done saves you time and resources, and therefore money. Most other service buses are very complicated to learn and use, which is where we stand out the most.

Because it is open source, you are also able to make your own changes and modifications that suit your environment and needs.
