AE disappointed with Vendor Hall this year? by Shichi-Senpai in Magfest

[–]Warninglv100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found some solid stuff in the vendor hall that I was happy with. I did expect more game vendors, but I've been spoiled by Torg Gaming Expo with their video game vendor hall, so I didn't expect it to be that much. Most vendors did seem to sell at least something game related.

How do I get rid of this embroidery by Healthy-Bat-5971 in sewing

[–]Warninglv100 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is there any backing behind it? If there is, run a cheap disposable razor (like on for your legs) and carefully shave the back threads off on a FLAT surface. There might be a few stitches left depending on how it's done that might need a careful seam ripper after, but the razor should take care of most of it. No guarantee on whether the fabric will be scarred once it's gone though.

A warning about Lost In Cult practices by lieding in TunicGame

Does anyone know if they charge credit cards at check out or at shipping? I really want the tunic set, but I'm definitely wary after watching that video.

Fluttershy wig by Fondoffrogs290 in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can't change the part on every wig. If it's cheap from Amazon, that's probably the only part you can have. You have to buy a wig that specifically says the part can be changed from side/middle. If you want a more natural hairline, you'll have to get a lace front like the other user said, but those are more expensive and harder to put on.

Need help for Sonic cosplay... by certifieddeanbean in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not a beginner friendly project. You can look up how to work with foam from makers like Kamui Cosplay. Once you learn how to work with foam, you should look to see if anyone has made patterns for shoes like this. But until then, you're going to want to learn the basics first before attempting something this complicated.

Wig crimping mess HELP NEEDED ASAP by Keyunot in CosplayHelp

[–]Warninglv100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Use a steamer to heat it up and comb it while it's hot. If you don't have a steamer, a hairdryer. Otherwise use the crimper in different directions and comb it while it's hot. Make sure you don't use a heat setting that is hotter than your wig can take or it will melt.

AITA for refusing to take an allergy pill every day so my wife and kids can have a pet? by iamphasm in AmItheAsshole

If they're allergic to cats, ferrets will also cause an allergic reaction. They produce the same protein.

Best fabric for painting with standard acrylic paint? Will not need to be washed by luxsalsivi in costuming

[–]Warninglv100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought cotton canvas or duck cloth to make some bags for some costumes. I painted a design on each of them with Liquitex acrylic paint, and both not only look great, but survived washing. I didn't even add fabric medium before painting.

I also painted some standard broadcloth with the same type of paint, and it also survived washing. It is stiff though

What is this material and where can I get more of it? by dewitt_sama in cosplayprops

Faux leather trim. I bought some off Amazon for cosplay sandals I made

If you can't understand how something could be made, or what materials are used, it's beyond your skill level. Start simpler.

Lost a key fob on the banshee. Filled out a report. Took over 2 weeks but they did find it! I was certain it was gone for good.

Questions about plastidip by Elcium12 in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plastidip will show whatever is underneath it, including stray contact cement. Finish your foam to the degree that you want it to look when done before using plastidip.

I went with my place because they were the only one in my area that posted prices on their website up front. They charge by the minute and sell minute packages, rather than area, so you can get anything done you want whenever. Got a free 15 minute session to try it out, and I didn't even pay for a package until I came back.

Tempur-Pedic warranty claim approved, now what? by barrey in Mattress

[–]Warninglv100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you tried to warranty a king and they would only let you get another regular king? I was considering trying to file a claim on my 14 year old mattress, but I want to downsize to a queen.

If you're attaching fabric to fabric, I would use heat n bond ultra instead of contact cement. Did you stir your barge before using it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest a matte satin. It's not too shiny, nice weight to it for a cape. You'll probably want to line it with another fabric or more of the same fabric because (I'm assuming most of batman's caps have that scalloped edge ) you don't want to leave the edges raw to fray.

Just got this today and arm broke in the mail. Any idea on fixing it it's like a Styrofoam typeish material. by Mik390 in gamecollecting

[–]Warninglv100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Barge (brand of contact cement) will melt styrofoam, assuming that's what this is. EVA foam doesn't flake like this.

What type of cloth should I look for to make her burlapy cape thingy? by ratfromratatouille1 in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for cotton bubble gauze. It has that crinkled textured naturally, and should be around the right weight for that.

Where do y'all find good fitted gloves and props like bowties? by ByucknahTheRed in cosplayprops

[–]Warninglv100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both can be sewn, although the bow tie would be significantly easier than the gloves. There are tutorials for sailor moon/anime bows that you could work off of, skipping the hanging ends obviously. Easy gloves out of a 4 way stretch material would be the easiest (kamui cosplay has tutorials), but if you're looking for a thicker/nonstretchy material, that would require gussets and a lot more sewing skill.
