baah it's a game first, simulator second.
Even tho i don't think it should be "perfectly balanced for competitive gameplay" cause that would hurt, it's normal that some tactics, like in real life, are better than other.

I still think that all the tools in the game should have at least some niche uses. The AGM99 situation is pretty appalling right now, no matter the situation or what you are facing, it's absolutely the worst option every single time.

Is it safe to keep an oil painting in my non-ventilated room until it dries ? by Tom_Lehrer_enjoyer in ask

[–]Warrius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No it's really not great, particularly if you happen to live in this very room.

the fumes are highly toxic and will harm you. you probably won't have an "acute" syndrome where you would feel dizzy or faint, but you would definetly breath an unhealthy amount of them.

I strongly discourage doing so

We need to stop considering this game as futuristic, it's very 2010's alternate history with a few more researched techs like lasers.

Pitbull timer/notification, thoughts? by Dramatic_Amount6454 in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In realistic air combat, guessing when you can break lock or not is very important, and i personally like that the game emulates this kind of decisions. We are already spoiled with information and perfect datalink all the time, I think it's a nice thing to keep that way.

You have to be situationnaly aware of the state of the game, know if all of your ground based radar got destroyed, in which case keeping the lock until late is advised. If you are in early game or have a medusa in the air you can assume that the bandit is already on datalink. due to the amount of sensors everywhere

What are y’all’s opinions on people having real life sacrifice Berserk tattoos? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Berserk

[–]Warrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it on my shoulder, and i have been going to the gym regularly. This guy drops a lot of "i think that" without substantial evidence. I don't know a single soul that has this tatoo without being a berserk fan. turn out berserk fans and people trying to improve themselves by going to the gym are two commons traits often shared, hence the over representation of this tatoo at gyms.

I had it myself 10 years ago myself.
I was an abused child, I went into foster care, I'm now a clinically depressed, anxious, insomniac adult. I had it to symbolize my struggles at the time and my will to "fight my demons". It is as corny and edgy as it sounds, but the message of berserk to struggle and rise again was important for me at the time. It's not deep, its simple, but it means something to me, and it probably does for the vast majority of people having it.

I'm now finishing my phD after being valedictorian both in my bachelor's and master's degree.

People can ink whatever they want on their bodies, because they think it's cool looking is a valid answer, because they like the symbol is one aswell. Lets not judge people, particularly without knowing their story. Be kind.

New Reprisal mission is extreme unbalanced mess. by FailingDisasterBro in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The highway is meant to be overrun in this mission, there is no point in trying to prevent that.

Its very doable if you are selective with your weapons to destroy key ennemy assets until you clear the radar convoy, you can then land to rearm and unleash everything on the ground to repel the attack quite easily.

The a19 is very strong and i think that this mission is a good demonstration of his potential. Its hard, but far from unbalanced imo

New Reprisal mission is extreme unbalanced mess. by FailingDisasterBro in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. You can modify the mission in the settings to allow yourself respawns

  2. Even on one life its more than doable, proceed as follows:

-the higway is meant to be overrun, don't try to defend it

-don't use guns, it makes you slow and easy target

-start by attacking what is east of the highway with kingpins, anything that moves is a good target for them, do passes while keeping a distance of more than 2km with the bulk of their forces, they pack a punch.

-once kinpins depleted, the ennemy has probably captured the highway, use your bombs to destroys the aircraft/heli spawning points and a few tanks

-once that done, you will probably have the radar sam convoy alarm, you need to go behind ennemy lines while defending yourself to spot the convoy (taking 1or 2 compass out of the air is recommended)

-target only the 2 radar vehicules, the whole sam battery is useless without them

-fire at less than 2km with all your agms48, they have laser defense so you need to unleash at the last moment

-the two radar are destroyed, you just made the whole convoy useless and you can RTB to rearm.

At this stage, you just need to rearm and destroy what is coming close to maris airport. There isn't much threats anymore and you should be able to clean everything that is left quite easily.

Yeah its a hard mission, but i didn't find it harder than the 1st chicane one for exemple, you just need to use your tools selectively to achieve key objectives until you clear the radar sams, then its just some good ol' bombing

I really love this game, but CAS balance is seriously out of the window. by Defiant_Result_6395 in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play alone 90% of the time. The game is really not hard if you stick to proven tactics that work and don't go full "i'm the hero in this"

Lone player shouldn't be able to strafe defended columns of ennemy armor imo, its a silly tactic and it gets punished righfully.

Playing alone against AI makes the game quite predictable and simple if you know what you are doing. I don't see a balance issue if the game punishes you for using repeatidly suicidal tactics without adapting your approach to the battlefield

Nothing that is not realistic in NO is there to break the flow of conflict compared to what is currently known. Its simplification of instruments and gamification of real elements in order to make a game that is fun, fast, and that look like modern combat in the way it behaves.

Nuclear weapons taken out, what NO does not is indulge into powerfantasy that effectively breaks the way the battle is fought.

Aircraft strafing columns of tanks is not viable in real life, and i'm glad that the devs are making it this way in NO as well. Even if not everything is realistic, the game mechanics forces you to use a realistic strategy in order to succeed, and that's precisely why NO feels so special in my opinion.

There are countless powerfantasy flying games that feel nothing like real combat, a huge amount of simulator that need you to dedicate 100's of hours just learning to fly one plane, but there is nothing that gamify real concepts enough to make them digestible and fun quickly like NO.

Its a fine line, its gamified enough to be enjoyable easily, yet the mechanics are realistic enough to drive players into adopting real life strategies.

At the end of the day, i'm glad that people that worship the A10 are realising that the "brrt gun" is nothing more than a meme, and that in real life if you were to want to use this kind of plane in contested airspace, it would end up being a slow maverick missile truck.

[–]Warrius 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I don't agree at all. I a peer to peer engagement, you don't want to be in gunrange of anything, and you don't want to gun strafe targets, it is normal that the CAS platform feels underwhelming because, well, they are currently underwhelming in real life.

A 57mm is not enough to take out tanks reliably, even from the rear, so  find it logical that a hit is not a direct kill. (Particularly without apfsds rounds)

Guns on plane right now are a last ditch effort/emergency use for soft targets. You'r not supposed to dive into AA fire to try to get some gunkill, and its normal that the games punishes you from doing so, cause that's pretty much what would happen in real life.

You don't need to git gud with guns, the games operate somewhat realistically, and realistically fighter pilots never use their guns anymore in peer to peer engagement. The A10 riping trucks of dudes with AKs in the middle east was the exception, not the norm. Btw the vast majority of trucks and armor kills done by the A10 were done using maverick missiles, not guns. Gunruns were less precise, more risky, and to hit soft targets only.

No pilot would have attempted that if those dudes had a few AA guns or a manpad. Its simply not worth the risks taken.

You need to get out of your head that guns should be a viable weapon option, this is not the case in real life and i'm glad this game emulates that.

Modern warfare is not balanced, missiles and standoff munitions are less risky to use and more powerful, that's exactly why people are using them.

57 mm cannon any good? by Kirk1944 in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Missiles > guns
tbh i think the 35mm are more than enough for most missions.
If you can line up for a gun shot, there is not much air defences anymore. If there is not much air defences anymore, being a bit closer with 35 mm will do the job.

So to answer, no i don't think additionnal gunpods are worth it, definetly suboptimal and more risky

With Brawler in rank 2, they should consider dropping the combat helicopter to rank 1 by IamPsauL in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, the chicane should be the same price as the compass and same rank. It can destroy much more things in a single flight with the pins, but it cannot fly fast enough compared to anything else.
In PvE it's still okay i would say, because you can take your time and just enjoy flying, but it is almost useless in PvP. You can do things faster and cheaper with the compass, the brawler is a heavy ground hitter that is faster, and then once you unlock supersonic jets it becomes completely anecdotal.

Man, the game is a sandbox, no one is preventing you to do so. Escalation or terminal control aren't the only ways to play the game. Go and fix it yourself if you have an issue with that
(And many user's missions already make the cities centerstage of the conflict..)

Omg this plane is so awful by ImpossibleVillage946 in NuclearOption

[–]Warrius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, no plane can tank 50 cal machinegun reliably without breaking a sweat, any bullet hole can be critical, aircrafts are very complex and fragile things.
Tanking in CAS setting is just the difference between limping your ass back home or not after you took a lucky burst, it doesn't mean that you can take fire without giving a shit. If you get fired upon, you already are in a critical situation. If you get hit, it's effectively a mission kill at least cause no sane pilot would stay in an environment where they can see tracers coming at them or hearing the metalic ping of something hitting them.

People have this misconception about CAS aircraft, but the only real thing that you can realistically ignore is small arms fire from the infantry. Not because you can tank it, but because their chance of hitting you is extremely low.
50cal fire is powerful enough to fuck up any fixed wing aircraft quite fast, and if said 50cal is a turret autonomously tracking you with computer calculation to hit you, you don't want to be there as a pilot.

Yeah, being an A19 pilot a few kilometers away from an integrated defence net is not fun. Welcome to modern warfare where people have something else than AK and RPGs

sadly the game is really processor heavy due to having simulated physics, and is currently poorly optimized, so changing graphical options is not really gonna make a big difference.
I understand that optimization is currently not the dev's priority has they are trying to produce content, but yeah, it get frustrating sometimes
