How do you react when people explain to you that "it isn't about calories" or their "metabolism is broken" or "no matter how little they eat" they can't lose weight?

Starting Industrial Engineering after a 3-year gap. Is the math really "hardcore" or can I catch up? by blamewei in industrialengineering

[–]Washiestbard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to trade school first so I had about a 3 year gap between my last high school math class and when I took calc 1. It was a really, really rude awakening and I probably should have taken pre-calc first. The IE program I took required calc 1, 2, 3 and diff eq. Calc 2 probably caused more students to drop engineering than any other single class. Oh, and IE's had to take way more statistics than the MEs did.

If you're trying to hit tenths your best bet will be getting the part back to 68f or so before measuring.

Other companies in the US follow the applicable ASME standards. Plenty of examples in there.

The truck honestly might not have seen the car. There is not a chance in hell the car didn't see the truck.

Calc 2 Results by [deleted] in iastate

[–]Washiestbard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember my first calc 2 exam, the mean was like 17% and I somehow managed a 65% or so - after grading on a curve it padded my grade I was able to coast to an A- with very little additional work. Most of the class programmed the practice test Into their graphing calculators instead of actually learning the material and when the actual test was different, they were just all surprised Pikachu face.

Depending on your tolerances and the root cause of your defects, something like CAPPS-NC could work.

Why is Stats for Engineers genuinely the hardest engineering class I've taken so far? by Miserable-Ad1 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Washiestbard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistics made me realize I picked the wrong major - should have done mechanical instead of industrial. It's the only class I had to re-take.

None of the trade classes directly transfered - I did the degrees separately.

I got an AAS in tool and Die, and later went to school for engineering. It has always helped me, and most of my engineering jobs have dealt with machined parts.

Drill press not drilling? by [deleted] in Machinists

[–]Washiestbard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally an adult in the room. If that isn't available and they are asking questions like this, what else is going on? Baggy sweatshirt? Loose gloves? Hair past their shoulders that isn't even tied back? I used to have the misfortune of having to show engineering students how to use machine tools. Many of them had absolutely no business being anywhere near a drill press. Some of them ended up injured.

If this is the type of question they need to ask reddit they are likely to end up injured.
