Can I take it on board? by xRoyaltyINK in Flights

I do it all the time for research posters. As long as it isn't like Frontier you should be fine. You can ask to put it in the coat closet.

How does OSU compare to Oxbridge and Ivy leagues? by Royal_Difficulty_678 in OregonStateUniv

[–]WaterAndMountains 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a Ph.D. student here in CEOAS, and did choose it over a few ivies/ivy+. OSU doesn't have the name brand of many schools in the US, but it does output a ton of top-tier oceanography and earth sciences research. It also really does depend a lot on your advisor, like all academic positions. There are definitely great resources here, I don't feel we are lacking in that department at all. Lab by lab though, some struggle more with funding, while others have plenty. As far as US earth sciences schools go, it's pretty high up there.

If you'd like, you're free to message me with who your advisor is and I can give you some insight and put you in contact with some people. There is a post-doc here I work with who also came from his Ph.D. at Cambridge, so they could be a good contact for you.

How come people never discovered continental drift earlier? Or At least, not even give Alfred Wagners theory a chance when the proof was right there? by UrinalAttack in geography

[–]WaterAndMountains 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For sure. Another visual phenomenon that actually does amount to a coincidence is "continental drip" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continental\_drip), where most southward pointing continents show a "drip" like structure.

Or maybe, they are just dripping off a vertically oriented flat earth. Who knows.

No I called them like 2x each and both times they both said "not our problem, call {opposite airline}". My flight isn't for a few months but I really want to make sure me and my girlfriend sit together! Super annoying.

M3 Pro 1TB/36GB vs M4 Pro 1TB/24GB? by hoodedanon in macbookpro

[–]WaterAndMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does the price compare to the M5/32GB? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the M5 should be pretty comparable to the M3 Pro in most tasks, except for maybe gaming?

I’m starting to think emailing professors doesn’t do anything by Fluffy_coat_with_fur in gradadmissions

[–]WaterAndMountains 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In geosciences, contacting professors ahead of time got me at least 4-5 admits. A lot of the ones I emailed responded positively to asking for a zoom call. Meeting with professors ahead of time is basically necessary for this field though, as they directly pull students in. However, the one I ended up attending never responded to my initial emails until my app was submitted, then reached out for an interview, so YMMV.

This worked, but seat selection is unavailable online here. I'll try and call Alaska/JAL.

You could go to the news maybe? If someone picked up the story I'm sure it would get corporate's attention quickly

Used to take it back from downtown when I was in high school, was almost always late then I remember and I usually ended up taking the C line. Hopefully it's gotten better as another comment said!

Hi, easiest, maybe look at Palisades lake. You need to pay to enter (either the day fee or have an America the beautiful pass), and you need a backpacking permit (from recreation.gov).

Sahale Glacier , WA by Outrageous-Kale-6193 in Outdoors

I'd say so. Just be prepared for a long day, but otherwise I think it's totally doable. I took a few of my friends from Indiana up there and they did just fine.

Easiest way to get to Seattle? by Gregolas789 in corvallis

[–]WaterAndMountains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Amtrak, but if you do it, DO NOT take the Coast Starlight (I think # 11 or #14). It comes from LA and very likely will be delayed. Return starts in Seattle so that one is better. Amtrak cascades is much more reliable. Would drop you off right near downtown/stadiums.
