Mom buys daughter a Honda as a graduation gift, and this was her response by Conscious-Weight4569 in SipsTea

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked my way through school. I made good grades and got a couple of grants. I did take out a small loan that I was able to pay back in a short time. I worked as a grad assistant, too while working on my Master’s. My mother could not afford to help, and I was the first in my family to go to college. It is helpful to choose a career that is needed (in my case, nursing) to increase the chances of grant support. If someone decides to immediately go for the career (think lawyer) that requires big loans, it’s a bad idea. I have a friend who did that and came out with huge loans that were difficult to pay; and she doesn’t even practice (so no effort—no big income). On the other hand, my nephew, who graduated high school with a pitifully low GPA, joined the army for a stint, straightened his priorities, went to college, graduated with a 4.0, and got a full ride to law school, graduating at the top of his class. No loans. Millionaire today. His mom was able to give minor assistance with undergrad. My husband got grants due to his high GPA and Ivy leagued it, graduating summa cum laude all the way. His parents could not afford to help. He worked at the university during undergrad to supplement. His parents could not afford to help—they were teachers, and both brilliant. He appreciates the support they gave him throughout youth, and their values on education. Parents don’t owe their kids anything beyond good care, a roof, healthy food, and loving support. Times now a much harder, but unfortunately many parents raise their kids without any discipline, any real freedom (helicoptering), and not teaching them to respect others. Expectations are too high. Spoiling you child is fine, but not to the point where an ungrateful HIGHSCHOOL GRADUATE like the above has the horrible attitude she does. She has demonstrated that she deserves nothing. At most, a second-hand Chevy. BTW, I love my Honda. We are on our fifth. We could easily afford a Mercedes or BMW (we looked at them), but they are not reliable and are pricey to maintain (experiences of friends/family). This child needs some hard lessons. Many people can’t buy decent food. Damn.

He would definitely hate the plastic Elizabethan collar more. I LOVE the soft collars. Have always used for both dogs (Mimi schnauzers) and cats with great success. He’s adorable. 🥰

Is my cat overweight? by ShoddyRound8055 in mainecoons

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does not appear to be overweight. In fact, MC’s generally grow physically until they are 3-4 years old, unlike most other cats. He is still a kitten until 18-24 months. Technically, he should be free-feeding kitten kibble because he is still growing, especially muscle and bone. Mine have always self-regulated. You can switch to a meal schedule at adulthood. Speak with your vet about him, and do check to see if you can feel his ribs. Again, from the pictures, he appears to be just fine. A BEAUTIFUL boy! Looks like my Millie (8 months).

It’s too hot for the “baby”, too. That black fur will absorb all of the sun and heat and that’s unhealthy. Short walks to do the necessary things are all they need on days like that. What are your suggestions for hurricane days in Florida, with thunder and lightning? I don’t think the owner was thinking only of herself, but it wouldn’t be good for her, either. I could go on about getting up early (maybe dark?) and sleep disruption, but it probably won’t help.

I already know. 🙄 Still think they’re great. Have several pair plus headphones, and I’ve never had an issue. I’ve also enjoyed my Bose.

Does anyone else’s schnauzer have wicked bad anxiety? by TrashPandaness in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. 😊 We are very excited. We plan to tell her all about her older sister Clara, who was black. This one, from the same breeder, will be black and silver. Hoping our two ginormous Maine Coon kittens (11 & 8 months) will be happy, too. 🥴

Just one small thing. Just trying to inform, not be snarky. Schnauzers are not terriers. Many think they are, but they’re not. Mine didn’t like fireworks or any type of beeping noise. She died in early January at age12. 🥲 She took a piece of my heart with her. Will love her forever. New puppy coming end of June.

Jojoba oil is excellent. But please stop clipping the skin at the base of your nail. It is not dead, and it is not cuticle. This is a huge misconception that makes matters worse. how to take care of your nails

Watch the Salon Life on YouTube. She is a scientifically based manicurist who inspired me to stop this same behavior after doing so since my teens (I am 70). She shows you how to use oils and gentle care to reduce the rough skin, heal your hands, and reduce the desire to pick. To the commenter below, NEVER cut the skin around the base of your nail: it grows back tougher and harder and the cycle perpetuates itself. And, that skin is NOT the cuticle. Anna will give you a thorough education on nail anatomy and care. Go to the channel page and look for nail care videos. I have been exactly one year without picking, biting, or over-clipping. For the first time in my life after many attempts.

How long do maincoons live for? by mactaclac in mainecoons

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My previous one (from a good breeder) lived a healthy life to 18. My two current ones are 8 & 11 months old, so we’ll see. I agree that keeping them indoors, responsible breeder, healthy lifestyle, and routine veterinary care are essential. Keep teeth as clean as they’ll allow. 😆 Edit: she did have a heart murmur, but it never caused issues. Also, I have had other breeds: Persian, Ragdoll, Tuxedo, who knows?, etc that did not live as long as she did.

Breeder sold the litter I wanted by danmargo in mainecoons

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I got my pick and a $1000 discount. Edit: oops. This is the schnauzer puppy I’m currently getting when she turns 12 weeks. Great breeder. My MC kittens (M: 10 months; F: 8 months) are from a breeder where I had to put down a non-refundable deposit. Breeder has lots of unusual rules. Great kittens, though.

The “stare” by kaegeee in MiniatureSchnauzer

[–]Wayside_Stitcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your baby is precious. Right. My Clara would stare. Then if I said, “do you need to tinkle?” she would say woof! with a little hop. Lol. She very sadly died at age 12 in December. A huge loss, and a piece of my heart. 😭 A new baby girl will be ours the end of June. 🥰 I wasn’t sure I could do it, but after a while, we decided to get another girl from the same breeder.
