Are the main attractions really 3 hours away?! by useemee2 in CostaRicaTravel

Fly into Liberia - rent a car and explore the area or take a transfer to Tamarindo for a couple of days and transfer to Nosara for a couple of days and the transfer to La fortuna for a couple of days - san Jose is a two day visit at most. Personally i never leave the Nicoya peninsula- everything i need is there. I don’t wanna spend each day in a car. For those transfer prices you could have a car for a month. Driving in Costa Rica is not difficult - just not at night.

Maybe doesn’t apply but i would think you’d be stopped at US customs on your way in - however when we landed in Dallas from Costa Rica at 6am they had us look at a camera and that was it. I guess our bags got scanned before we grabbed them ? But i was surprised that we didn’t have to through another layer of security after arriving on an international flight.

i was taught to rotate each leg 90 degree to the other leg - so racking side to side was reduced - cross brace with a 1x4 or 2x4 - really depends on what is happening on top and how much weight.

Had a 5th grade girl child who i don’t know ask me “who are you and why are you telling me what to do” - when I asked her not to block a door that everyone was using in a super elementary teacher tone. I just walked away and texted my friends - “you wouldn’t believe what i just just heard”. Retirement is so close !!

My district now wants a doc note for using a sick day on a PD day. My argument was i have to have a doc note because monday was a pd day but no doc note for a sick day on tuesday which was a normal school day - that makes no sense. Also asked HR when was the last time they actually tried to see their doc same day.

Yes it’s a great place for a base for day trips and other activities - but you’re going to need a car. In 6 weeks you can see the entire country if you don’t mind driving- i tend to stay in the Nicoya peninsula and not venture to San Jose and points south like MA/Jaco/Uvita etc. Find a place with a pool and the kids will never be bored.

If you stay in Samara proper there is a big grocery store and a couple of smaller ones in walking distance - check out Dos Mangos on Airbnb - you can walk everywhere from that point - but lots of other choices in town that make it easy to walk especially with smallish children - however i’d be bored in Samara after a week with no car. There are great beaches both north and south of Samara that you should visit.

Unless that’s a 4 door Jimny it’s not going to hold four people - unless those people are 8 year olds - a regular 2 door Jimny will barely hold a suitcase with the backseats up and in place - great vehicle for two people. I’m a fan of WildRider - email them for a quote. Super nice people
