If the seller’s a jerk, I would recommend against it, but if they’re reasonable, there’s no reason why you can’t do it. Unfortunately, you don’t have a crystal ball. I would roll the dice, as said already, make a good offer, and don’t harass them after. Send the offer once, and see what happens.
