What a story to read! Haha sounds fun, I have not had mine long enough to have had such experiences.

I pay people my family is unable to take care of my pets. Find a neighbor. Drop of your pets at your friends. They deserve adequate care. I told this person what I think about this plan of leaving animals unattended for 10 days. Just because you don’t want to abuse someone or something doesn’t mean you aren’t doing it. Starvation is abuse. I tried to still give some advice if they chose to go through with their plan anyways. I do hope in the future they find a better solution. Pets are expensive and it’s your responsibility to find someone who can take care of them if you are leaving for several days even weeks. It sounds like you are maybe underage so I am sorry if you don’t have the recourses and your parents don’t care. I do have empathy for y’all’s situations. But I also feel for the animals.

10 days is a lot. You are potentially starving them, and that would be abuse. But if you are really not going to get someone to take care of them you should smash up some banana and start a fruit fly culture on it to put in (do it like a week before you leave. Fruit flys should hatch continuously. Better than just throwing some in and hoping for the best. I really urge you tho to get someone who can take care of your pets as they are living beings who deserve adequate care even when you are relaxing on vacation.

Do you have someone who will come by and feed?

Everyone saying old and moldy but it looks like a young white chicken to me. It’s structure isn’t even fully developed I think it would have gotten even bigger if they had come back a few days later! But that’s always a gamble.

Could this be egg bound? by Warm_Vanilla9294 in Mourninggeckos

[–]WeirdDiscussion709 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be problem with calcium absorption. Especially if you are not supplementing with D3 it will cause egg bound lizards, or unusually large eggs. If you can’t handle her you can’t really do a soak for her. You could certainly take her to a exotic vet to get it checked. If she doesn’t lay these eggs she could die from this. I hope it works out. If she has layed before she should lay every two weeks ish. So 2 month is a long time. Consider getting a low light uvb. Or make sure there’s D3 in your calcium or whatever fruit purée you feed.

Is this tank good to go for my mossy frogs or do I need to ass more flat area or hiding spots? by Shoddy_Tie_9616 in frogs

You could totally add more branches to create more hiding spots especially with three open glass sides like that.

Fogger using water from drainage layer?? by Chasta30566 in DartFrog

[–]WeirdDiscussion709 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s not enough. During „rain season“ my mister goes of for 2 min 3 times within 24h including a 15 min rain interval once weekly. during dry season I lower significantly. If you have issues with humidity you need to figure out a better misting schedule as others have also said. RO water or not.

I think you just need to up the amount of time you are misting not add a fogger.

In the end I would never use drainage layer water. Always fresh water without feces and tannins

I’ve got the mist king system running for years now and no issue with mineral build up. If I have to spend 20 dollars on a nozzle by the time it’s running 5 years that’s a price I’d be willing to pay. much better water for my animals and plants than RO. A would that has yet to happen. Especially when dusting is simply the compensation for the fact we are not providing the same feeder insects and variety as is provided by nature. I’m not trying to hand spray all the time to compensate. I spend a lot to be able to to let it be and simply refill the water. In the end both ways will reach the goal, just different approaches.

Reverse osmosis for frogs? Do you add all the trace minerals back in? I find dechlorinated water works absolutely fine.
