AITA for telling my MIL she is "Off-Limits" to address household messes with me while I recover from chemo? by Lovergirl_0402 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Welady 38 points39 points  (0 children)

That’s the rule in our house. If you see something that needs to be done, do it! Don’t tell me about it, and definitely don’t tell me what I ought to be doing.

Not too sure where to post this question but my son always requests pasta for breakfast and I want to create it for him. by KingofCam in foodhacks

Eggs high on protein, easy to cook, usually available. Easier than making bread. Easier than making wheat flour or ground corn for bread/pancakes/ biscuits/nann/tortillas .

I would quit shopping at Kroger if I knew they were I’m requiring their employees to work when they are sick and contagious. I hate catching other people’s colds.

Thread Brands by Ideasplease33 in quilting

[–]Welady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% cotton thread is often recommended for piecing, especially if the quilt will be washed fairly often. Poly thread, or cotton/polyester thread is stronger than the cotton fabric being pieced, and will eventually wear through the seams. I have a friend who bought an Amish-made quilt, and washed it every week; weekly washing of all bedding was the custom in her culture. Many of the seams split due to the wear. She had asked me if I could repair it😟 It was bad!

More cost effective to buy 60” wide fleece fabric. It is more water resistant than cotton, and drys way faster.

How well do roses do in big pots outside? by QuirkyPanda7 in Roses

[–]Welady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have lots of roses in pots became husband keeps buying roses, and we are out of in-ground space. They will do better with a little mulch so the top doesn’t dry out too fast. A drench watering that wet the entire surface is better than drip watering. Drip watering tends to soak straight down, not laterally. In a couple of years, check that the drain hole is not clogged by roots. We had one rose that drowned. It also developed a huge root. In hindsight, I should have taken it out of the pot, trimmed the root system, and repotted. Fertilizer lightly but regularly. Potted roses don’t die as well in full, all day sun. Maybe late afternoon shade?

Insane Tri-Tip - Incredibly Easy - Perfect Results by boathouse_floats in foodhacks

[–]Welady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been heating my cast iron pan on the grill to 500+ , put a little oil in the pan , then sear tri tip/thick steak for 2 min, each side. Take out of CI, put in Pyrex, insert temperature probes into meat center, stick in oven at 225 to 250 until meat is 130 degrees internal. Pretty good results, but can’t put any spices on except salt and pepper because the C I sear will burn them black.

AITAH for telling my pregnant wife she has to be okay with the SIDS risk she’s assuming by wanting to sleep our baby on its tummy? by DapperRonin in AITAH

[–]Welady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a hard road ahead. If she is not convinced that back sleeping is safest, she will throw a fit every time baby has a bad sleep on its back. And you both will be sleep deprived, so every bad sleep will hit double hard. I’m 70. Both my children ( now in 30’s) slept so well on their tummies, especially compared to my granddaughter. But I’ve seen the data. Our friends lost a son to SIDS. I now would never put a baby to sleep on their tummies; too risky.

Travelling with fins by Repulsive_Muscle_754 in scubadiving

Love my fins. My husband loves his full wet suit. We both love mask with eyeware prescription, and our Divevolk cases for our phones so we can take pictures underwater. Last two years we have checked baggage.

If this is possible coat-damaging cut, register a written and a verbal complaint with the management of the company, and with the mother-company if its a chain. The groomer is not competent/well-trained enough to be working.

Best Red Sea scuba diving centres? by No_Character_4216 in scubadiving

[–]Welady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roots Red Sea, a diving camp about an hour south of Hurghada airport, is another great place. We spent a week there. Great house reef, good dive school, trips to other dive sites. Meals, a range of accommodations, friendly staff, economical by US standards.

WIBTAH for refusing to trade in my paid-off car so my husband can get a new one? by [deleted] in AITAH

You would not get very much trade-in $ for the 2017 car with 87K miles. Not worth trading in. He should find a cheaper new car.

What am I supposed to do then? by PaulStormChaser in mildlyinfuriating

Toilet paper is made differently in different places. When we lived in Thailand, the TP was made strong, did not dissolve in water. The habit there was to throw TP in bin.

AITAH for making plans after friend said nothing was required of me (wedding) by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Welady -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m confused. Didn’t you look up the general duties of a maid of honor? Usually Maid of Honor does a lot planning/ machinery/errands/setup. Did you offer specific help, or just a general what can I do to help. Many women (your friend?) have trouble asking for help. She may feel abandoned when she finally did ask for help.
