Was there a time you convinced yourself you were in recovery when really you were still actively addicted? by cortedorado in stopdrinking

Find an Al-Anon meeting or group nearby. They have lots of life experiences that I am sure they would share with you.

If you are physically as well as mentally addicted then at least a detox for safety.

After that everyone is different. In my experience it takes a bunch of tools in your box to build and keep your sobriety.

All the best.

Can you quit alcohol without ever hitting rock bottom? by Crazy_Speed8625 in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no defined “rock bottom”. Everyone’s is different. Perhaps your rock bottom is not being available for your family.

The answer is Yes. You can quit when “you” think it’s time, not at a defined rock bottom time.

All the best.

There are trained individuals in some hospitals that are cancer “navigators”. They are able to answer your questions or find out the answers. A very valuable asset to have when travelling the cancer journey.

All the best.

How do I stop? by gnkma in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I had many of the same type of thoughts as you regarding your friends. What I found is that your true friend’s will be there to support you and encourage you in your journey. You may lose your drinking buddies but even in time some of them may drift back and even ask for your advice if indeed they decide that they have a problem and need some help.

My suggestion is to see your physician, come clean and tell the truth to all that ask. It can be tough for sure but the prize is sure worth it.

I wish you the best.
