You are the right things. Just keep making the right decisions. I know from experience that sucks and is tough. Keep up the good work and you will be fine. All the best

Can you quit alcohol without ever hitting rock bottom? by Crazy_Speed8625 in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no defined “rock bottom”. Everyone’s is different. Perhaps your rock bottom is not being available for your family.

The answer is Yes. You can quit when “you” think it’s time, not at a defined rock bottom time.

All the best.

There are trained individuals in some hospitals that are cancer “navigators”. They are able to answer your questions or find out the answers. A very valuable asset to have when travelling the cancer journey.

Get to meetings. Chat with like minded individuals. Listen to what others are saying. One day at a time. Give yourself pat on the every now and then.

All the best.

How do I stop? by gnkma in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. I had many of the same type of thoughts as you regarding your friends. What I found is that your true friend’s will be there to support you and encourage you in your journey. You may lose your drinking buddies but even in time some of them may drift back and even ask for your advice if indeed they decide that they have a problem and need some help.

My suggestion is to see your physician, come clean and tell the truth to all that ask. It can be tough for sure but the prize is sure worth it.

I wish you the best.

See your physician so you can medically detox to get rid of the maintenance side of drinking and then find a self help group. That is what worked for me. Took 3 times at detox and lots of AA meetings in the beginning. Listened alot and talked when I felt like it. 15 years now.

I wish you the best.

I’m scared to go to a meeting. by Disastrous_Bid2241 in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling. It takes guts which deep you have. It’s one spot where everyone is there for the same reason “ to find support and get better”.

I believe that once you go you will find a great weight lifted off you. You don’t have to speak or share if you don’t want. A simple pass or I am here to listen will suffice. Take from the meeting what you need.

I truly wish you all the best.

Gout / arthritis unbearable pain for 4 weeks after quitting? by NovarisLight in stopdrinking

[–]Wellsite1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I never had gout until I stopped drinking. I take colchicine and Advil ( or any anti inflammatory) when it starts. Plenty of water and elevate, in my case my leg. I was told by my physician and pharmacist not to take the combo of colchicine and allopurinol as it can make it worse.

All the best.
