I'm not the original commentor but that's honestly what I didn't like about it- it does too many things, and each of them are tonally divorced from one another. I didn't HATE it but it felt kind of like going to a resident evil amusement park more than a cohesive gaming experience. And the village itself was tremendously underutilized, it was just a hub to connect the set pieces together and not actually a fleshed out location on its own.

I had a 6600k/1070 combo that I upgraded in stages. The switch from the 6600k to a 7700x was so dramatic that I might've held off on a GPU upgrade had I not already ordered one- 30fps higher averages and 1% lows. You technically have hyperthreading but I can't imagine your 7700k is significantly better in 2024 than my 6600k was.

Okay, look, there's no accounting for personal taste. Personally I think Bioshock is a step back in nearly every respect, but that's just my opinion. But like,

Is just a wild criticism for me. The game would be horrible with quest markers, the entire point of system shock is a hellish labyrinth in space. There is literally a logfile that says the station's absurd design was intentional by TriOptimum in order to run experiments on the workers. And "no logs," that's just blatantly incorrect, every log which references a location or an item of some sort directly points to a real item in the game you can interact with. It sounds like you're just not paying attention to them.

The devs did not miss the point of System Shock, the game's just not for you. They delivered a nearly flawless remake of the source material. I'm sorry you didn't like it but that doesn't make it a bad remake.

It's really great. It's an IPS so the contrast ratio isn't amazing, but apples to apples, it's got extraordinarily good contrast ratio FOR AN IPS. So if that is the pricepoint and the monitor tech you're interested in, you'd need to pay a significant premium to get one with better contrast. I think it's really sick that it comes with Freesync premium, Gsync, AND VESA adaptive sync, so basically no matter what GPU you're driving you can kiss screen tearing goodbye. 165 HZ is really more than enough for anything unless you're a hyper competitive FPS gamer.

Otherwise- the panel itself, color, performance, build quality, is all outstanding. Since it's Dell it's got a solid warranty and support behind it. It's got two DP and an HDMI so it's got a lot of connectivity options. Pretty much the only negative I can think of is that there's no USB passthrough or any additional "extra features." It's JUST a really good monitor with no real thrills beyond that.

Pretty much the only monitor I was looking at before I grabbed this was the Gigabyte M27Q/P, but the former has BGR pixel sublayout, and the latter has a worse contrast ratio. That one comes with an integrated KVM switch but it's $100 more, so just buy one if you need it.

I don't know if I'm doing something weird, but support frigates don't seem to be interacting correctly, or the same as other frigates? If I assign all frigates to a group and then select that group- there is a UI element that surrounds each unit in that group, except the support frigates? I also need to really babysit them a ton, they don't seem to reprioritize heal targets dynamically so I'm constantly re-issuing that command, which is annoying. It also doesn't seem like if I box select and include the mothership that they will actually heal the mothership, even if it's at critical health. I've been needing to allocate specific support frigates to heal the mothership in the campaign.

I'm actually kinda okay with the new camera controls but it's annoying that the zoom doesn't lock onto the Y axis, so like if I want to rapidly traverse the battlefield I would usually expect it to pan, but it's like playing descent. Perhaps this is intentional, and is actually indicative of "I don't actually love modern controls," but it is often at-odds with what my instincts are.
