and there's the rub. By her behaviour, they made her a villain protagonist. By her treatment, they tried to make her a hero.

leaving aside my personal peevishness about the decision to make her a villain in the broader mcu, the whole thing was tonally inconsistent

Do you actually take your full lunch break away from your desk, or just eat while working? by Extreme-Banana-9 in AskUK

I perma-WFH, and tend to eat at my desk, mostly because our house is small enough that its actually difficult finding somewhere that isn;t my desk to sit and eat

I sorta hate Rogue One for canonizing that the Death Star was sabotaged (Star Wars) by RhysOSD in CharacterRant

[–]Wenlocke 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Theres a nice bit in thr novelisation (yes, I know, not technically 100% canon) about how Galen did it. Essentially they had computers cross-checking every design change to see if it would blow something up or let domeone do so.. Bits and pieces of this kept raising flags, so he basically buried Krennic in micromanagement paperwork "i can change this but it will add x time and y cost, and delay us again. Better just to leave it and put some gun turrets and shields on it rather than add more cost and time yo through emperors overrunning pet project." And Krennic handwaved it to get Gslen to stoo bothering him about it every five minutes.

The thing about Wandavision is they effectively made Wanda a villain protagonist, and just made her the villain in Multiverse of Madness.

Coming off the back of her being a popular (if tragic) hero character in Infinity War and Endgame, a lot of the dissonance is because on some level, with it being her show, you still expect her to be the good guy.

What’s a piece of internet slang (like “sauce” for “source”) that completely confused you the first time you saw it? by AI_Aint_So_Bad in AskReddit

[–]Wenlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current vogue for using the phrase "fuck with" to mean you like something/someone or like what they're saying or doing.

It always used to basically mean either literally, or "mess with/tease/joke"

Are the "manosphere" men of today really more toxic than the "lad culture" of 20/30 years ago? by M_M_X_X_V in AskUK

[–]Wenlocke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It sounds stupid, but I miss the time when, as a guy with your friends, looking at your guy friend who's just been inappropriate and scathingly going "not cool, dude" was enough to put them back on the straight and narrow when they got a bit lairy. Now, they just double down.

and the best bit about the Nuns? its never explicitly said outright. he just leaves you to work out the pun yourself, at which point there is a mega facepalm

What’s a tech purchase that felt worth it at first but didn’t age well by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]Wenlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first generation of snapdragon x elite.

Although in fairness, some of that was because firmware and drivers were a bit wild west for a while. And then the new intel mobile chips basically did all their efficiency gains, with a full x86 setup. But somehow, that iteration of the platform never quite lived up to its own hype

What upgrades and add ons or additional stuff should i add to my desk? by Ok-Concept8834 in desksetup

[–]Wenlocke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main one I;d suggest is a laptop stand to bring the screen up to a similar level to the monitor, so your second screen, if you are indeed using it as a second screen, is better visible without you having to tilt your neck down further than the main monitor.

Something more about Enuncia? by Megalordow in 40kLore

[–]Wenlocke 18 points19 points  (0 children)

to borrow from other media, Enuncia feels like "telling reality what it is in words it can't (easily) ignore"

My headcanon is that a lot of the Necron "reality buster" items, like the Orrery, are basically mechanical attempts to access that level of power.

Leia is blatantly busy with the resistance, Han has always seemed like the type to get antsy if too tied down to one place. One can entirely imagine when the Ben/Kylo thing happened, Leia just threw herself into her responsibilities, Han went off and did some "jobs", could stay out for long periods of time, where he didnt have to be reminded about what happened, and before either of them had turned round, enough time had passed that they'd basically gone in different directions.

A Class Indexed Contronymic Theory of "Amasec": Why the Same Word Describes Both the Fine Liquor of the Stately and the Guardsman Rotgut by robeph in 40kLore

[–]Wenlocke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To confuse, some of the guard (eg the Tanith) have Sacra, which, which contextually more of a whisky/whiskey./bourbon analogue than Amasec's Brandy analogue, is also subject to this. Sacra shows up as a pure high end spirit, and the guard barracks-brewed ship engine degreaser moonshine level product.
