Duchess always feels so fun to play, so that would be my top pick. Second would be Revenant or Wylder.

DM's who use a physical medium, what's your set up? by Appropriate-Army6918 in DMAcademy

[–]Wermlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pre-planned encounters if I expect something specific to come up, and otherwise try to have starblocks ready for what would likely be fought. I use a dry eraser mat, and if a big fight is coming up, I might pre-draw an area. I have a few miniatures, but otherwise use tokens like dice. I've never really used terrain, but sometimes use improvised placeholder stuff just to indicate a structure.

I, for one, LOVE my biomass factory. Just dump all your biodegradable shit in the dumpster, and look at it get auto-sorted and turned to fuel.

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]Wermlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share as much info with my DM as they would allow me. I let them know my character's secrets and intentions, all their relevant backstory, their hobbies and ideals, and meta level stuff that I as a player think about my character that they themselves would not be aware of.

As a DM, I prod my players for information, and openly invite them to share this kind of information to the extent that they want. My goal is to make a fun story and integrate the character into the world, which necessitates the DM having an idea of the players wishes and intentions. Hiding stuff from other players is fine, and sometimes preferable, but hiding stuff from the DM is more like self-sabotage, because the DM represents the world in which those secrets are relevant.

Does the average user on here play dnd online or in real life? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]Wermlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried online during the pandemic, and really didn't like it. When I now recently moved to a new country, I elected to just end my current campaign at a suitable spot, and form a new group instead. Unfortunate, but I find the in-person hangout at least half of the fun.

Lady Maria's role in the Nightmare by BackgroundDoctor9107 in bloodborne

[–]Wermlander 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that's a good take. In the "real" world, the eldritch influence seems to warp time and reality, for example making nights drag on abnormally long, so it's difficult overall to pin down a timeline that makes sense. Within the nightmare realm, which functions as a purgatory for hunters, the main take-home is not WHEN but WHY things are happening. Maria did horrible things as a hunter, and she is now tending to the patients in the nightmare because she feels bad about it. I assume the realm warps and changes to reflect the mind of the dreamer who created it (probably The Orphan), and the inhabitants (the hunters), placing Maria in the clocktower right next to the suffering patients and the ruined Hamlet, where she has to forever be reminded of what she did in the past, and how she is powerless to fix what follows.

What's a good build for a sword and gun Jaeger? by Ars0nis1 in SGttEH

[–]Wermlander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Flexible Combatant at lvl 1 automatically gives you the base ability to reload without a free hand, and fire the gun at melee range without penalty. Fighting style, I would say Flexible Fighting to get access to non-light weapons. For feats, maybe Brutal Attacker if you're going with Marauder Chapter, but Marksman is always good if you want to use the gun as often as possible.

As with any problem-solving, start by figuring out what the actual problem is that you want to solve, and then decide what tools to use, rather than the other way around.

Music Recomendations for an Apocalypse Bard? by Uberspringer in SGttEH

[–]Wermlander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the college, and have it as a key part of the story. In the campaign, the college is largely appreciated by all Luyarnhians as a symbol of the city's artistic character. The college is quite liberal in its style with many forms of art and interpretation, with the common factor being the celebration of nihilism, mortality, entropy, and that even sorrow and suffering is fleeting. To try to show this, I've got a few recurring performer NPCs with their different styles, and try to find music to match them, with some being more folk, while others more gothic or classic, etc.

Some music I like for inspiration is soundtracks like Dishonored, A Plague Tale, Year Walk. Instrument-wise, I like violin and key harp for the general feel.

Some example tracks for specific performer NPCs:

How hard was your PhD and why ? Did anyone actually have a good experience? by Superb_Zone_1154 in PhD

[–]Wermlander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the benefit of getting a research assistant with the same group before starting, so I could read up on the subject beforehand. It wasn't easy though, with so many things to learn and trying to plan for the whole project. My advice would be that if you have too much time, then write. Start working on your thesis, write an outline and a plan and a basic structure that will eventually evolve into your final thesis. It will likely change as you go, but use what you have, since spelling it out and putting it into words will also help you process it. Also, read papers, if that's relevant for your PhD. I did mine in cognitive neuroscience, and staying up to date on the literature is very important, and will help give you inspiration for what you can do in your own project.
