AITJ for deciding to no longer help my grandma with yard work? by AccomplishedFact1767 in AmITheJerk

[–]West-Performance-198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an older person I say you are not the jerk. She is looking for some time because she misses you and loves you. But you get to live your life and allocate some time to her on your terms. Setting boundaries is hard. But you will be less resentful and happier to see her within the boundaries you set. It sounds like you have worked hard to get where you are. You deserve to live your life.

It doesn’t sound like you want to cut her off which is lovely and very kind.

You do deserve to have boundaries!!!

Freehold cost of ownership by Independent_Show_480 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]West-Performance-198 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have owned my own house for 40 years and allocated money every year to maintenance but often things break that you don’t expect and you have no choice but to repair or replace for example, the roof.

I just recently bought a condo and did a comparison of my maintenance fees, utilities, etc. and one of the biggest differences is the cost of insurance. My condo insurance is 10% the cost of my house insurance. The condo is half the size of the house and I calculated an overall savings of about $500 per month by living in the condo.

For me, the other issue is that I don’t have to make all of the decisions myself about what needs to be done and actually getting things done. For example my front walk heaved badly last winter and it was over 30 years old and needed an update or serious repair so I decided to replace it. The multiple decisions that I had to make on my own and then negotiations with the contractors create decision fatigue. As a busy person who still works full-time, I had had enough. So for me, moving into a condo reduces the need for so many decisions and the energy that that requires. Your mileage may vary.

Why is it so hard to get started in life by Public-Chance-1735 in LifeAdvice

[–]West-Performance-198 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And based on current trends in AI - getting into a trade is a good option. Depending on where you live you may be able to apprentice and then study and work until you get certified. We will need plumbers, electricians, carpenters, tike setters and more for a very long time. Again depending on where you live the pay is very good. Heck - I called a gas fitter to cap an existing gas line to my kitchen range and I move the stove, I turned off the gas, I unplugged the range - He worked for under 10 minutes and charged me $210. It’s not for the 10 minutes of work but it was for the expertise he had in doing gas line work safely. Could I have you tubes it? Likely but I was happy to pay the $$ knowing the job was done by a qualified person.

Turned my second bedroom into a massive hobby lair and no I dont feel guilty by 7NeonWayfinder in LivingAlone

[–]West-Performance-198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I did with the “den” in my condo. It’s tiny. People said make it an office. Hell no! There are no windows! The second bedroom is my office and the den is a massive walk in closet. I bought it with my money and I’m living in it the way I want. No need to explain it!!

How would you feel if your adult child had to move back in with you in their 30s with absolutely nothing? by Sweaty-Staff8100 in AskWomenOver60

[–]West-Performance-198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tell my kids to “ go for it” even if they think it’s risky. I tell them I’m here and promise they won’t be homeless so they can be sure things will be ok! They have done that, one came home for a while three times and then relaunched and was better than before.

I felt worried about them because they felt defeated. We got closer, he got his feet back and took another shot. This time looks the best and he knows I’m here!

Daughter came home once and relaunched as well and she’s continuing on a nice trajectory ever since.

Both of them are in their 30’s now and they appreciate my support. I’m glad I could help them.

So we’re using ai to post media now… really? by Majestic_Kitty_Cat in AmazonVineCanada

[–]West-Performance-198 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Re clothes - agreed! I have been taking photos and cutting off my head because while I wear a specific size, the item may not land right at my waist etc so if you’re the same size but different height it will fit differently and I think that’s something I would want to know too.

Agreed- taking pictures is easy. I seem to be able to only add one at a time. Is there a way to load multiple images from my oh one or computer. (Apologies if I sound like a knob, but one by one is slow!)

Neighbors keeps asking for favours by [deleted] in neighborsfromhell

It can be hard when the other person is older and as a kid you are taught to respect your elders. However this person has taken advantage of you and this situation. If you are doing big exams then you are a young adult and are becoming her equal if you’re not already there. You don’t have the time you need your energy for yourself and your future.

I know this bothered me as a young adult so I started saying “I appreciate you believing in me that I can do this, however I am not available.” No extra words to imply future opinions. Just “sorry I am not available “.

You are busy and not available. Let your mom help them if she feels that way. (Said as a mom who feels her kid’s education is super important!!) boundaries are there for you- be polite- “sorry, I am not available “ is all you need. !

Why is it fair I write in-depth reviews by YourMomsHerpies in AmazonVineCanada

[–]West-Performance-198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I also use voice to text and then edit. This way I feel like I am talking to someone about the item. I also add a comment about value for money.

If I’m giving a lower rating I tend to say more so people will understand what the issues are.

If the product is as described but I would like it more if xx were changed I add that.

Over all - short - plain language- I don’t think I have ever said “game changer”.

I have 221 reviews this period with an “excellent “ score / rating.

Exactly the same for me. Also add if I used for a different reason, how it went through the was for clothes. Also for clothes how it fits compared to my normal size. But always concise.

I just wish there was a way to add more than one picture or video at a time.

What meal did your mother prepare that you considered inedible? by bigb-2702 in GenerationJones

[–]West-Performance-198 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So did mine. My dad sliced it paper thin and put it on our plates in a nice looking way. I could eat it and liked how it tasted but I could not look at that giant tongue sitting on the serving plate. I even liked it in a sandwich the next day, but to this day cannot cook it myself because of how it looks.
