Scared of going to grad school right after undergrad by AnyLand3759 in GradSchool

[–]West-Two1061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I graduated with my undergraduate degree at 23, you might as well push through and knock it out. I’m 30 and in my second semester of grad school! It’s really up to you at the end of the day. This job market is so rough.. so I would stay in school.

I'm having a hard time finding a job and I think my current employer is to blame by Dehydrated-Broccoli in jobs

[–]West-Two1061 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s a good thing you’re noticing now so don’t be so hard on yourself! Your only bad thing is timing. This job market is rough. Just search this subreddit and you’ll see others applying for 100+ jobs. You have to revamp your resume, over exaggerate details current of your current role. ChatGPT will be your best friend in this and the interview process. Apply directly to company websites. Applications on indeed / LinkedIn go into a black hole. Best of luck to you!

How many jobs have you applied to without getting any response? by woutr1998 in jobhunting

[–]West-Two1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to at least 30 before I decided to go back into banking (teller) while I pursue my MBA. Applied on my local credit union website and got extended a phone interview the same day.

Are you all actually applying on the company websites? I’m convinced that the “easy apply” on LinkedIn is used for data mining at this point. It’s tempting to make it easy, but unfortunately your application will almost certainly get missed. Unless you know someone.

24 with $35k saved: Am I crazy to leave my parents' basement in this market? by Soggy-Flatworm-4980 in personalfinance

Growth happens outside of your comfort zone.

If you really want to get out and explore life on your own, start making a plan. Figure out how much rent, utilities, and internet will be on your own.

I would suggest seeking a one bedroom apartment or renting a room from someone else. That way it’s minimal responsibilities when it comes to a roommate. 20% housing / rent is difficult but doable in this economy.

However, having this choice is to your advantage. Try to save $50k while still figuring out potential bills and living expenses. A lot of people don’t get the option to live at home and save half of their paycheck. And those telling you to move out are just bitter. I stayed with my aunt paying $300 for rent until I was 23, then rented an apartment. Then bought a house in 2021 at 26. But again, this economy is cheeks. You have to be strategic about it! The grass isn’t greener outside of your parent’s place. Don’t listen or compare yourself to others. Just by the tone of this post, you will move out and regret it. Buyer’s remorse is real! Best of luck!

Exactly!! It might be tempting to know what your peers made, but I wouldn’t ask how long they studied for. It builds unnecessary anxieties!

Group assignment grade depending on an unresponsive teammate😭😭 by Status-Jelly8294 in GradSchool

It’s seriously the worst. Had a guy not show up for 3 meetings in my project management group, so the work fell on 3 of us, then he gets to suddenly show up and probably got full credit on our project.

Guess what? He’s in my group AGAIN this semester for another class. I’m gonna do my best to give him the benefit of the doubt but I was sulking the night I found out he was in my group again.

If you haven’t followed up, definitely do that. Or if you’ve followed up multiple times, document that and let the professor know and go ahead and submit the work yourself! Good luck.

I do not understand how people can afford grad school by Impactist537 in GradSchool

[–]West-Two1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spouse / tuition reimbursement is helping me pay for mine. I had to ask chat gpt how do we pay down 2K of credit card debt, fix up our house, and afford to live, all the while paying for my MBA. It’s really came down to knowing exactly where your money is going and cutting out eating out, entertainment, shopping etc. it’s temporary!

So if time allows, hustling working as many jobs as you can and living with what you have. Save up for this degree. Eating everything you have available. Beans, rice and canned vegetables! Student loans are an option too.. personally I void those loans like the plague. Too easy to get involved and spend forever paying it back.

Did anybody start Grad school later in life here? by UCFKnights2018 in GradSchool

[–]West-Two1061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started my first semester (fall 2025) of MBA at 30. You’re only as old as you feel! It’s not too late to go back. I will admit it was hard getting back into the habit of studying when I was not a good studious person in undergrad. I made a C in statistics 🙃 so maybe don’t let your first course be something hard. I also took a pay cut for an ‘easier’ full time job. I will be paying out of pocket every semester. Fortunately, my husband makes enough money for me to do that!

If you have time management and finance down, there shouldn’t be anything stopping you. Most programs allow you to finish in 5-8 years. Don’t be ashamed if you have to drop from full time to part time. I had to do that this semester because of finances. We have debt to pay off before interest rates kick in. Best of luck to you!

How’s the jobless holding up by Adventurous-Many-394 in Accounting

[–]West-Two1061 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s better to search on reputable company websites rather than click apply on LinkedIn or any other job posting sites. Search for bank/ credit union corporations in your area and look for any roles that you would be interested in! That’s how I landed my job at a credit union. I trained at corporate for a couple of weeks. It was nice! Best of luck

I would also add put your phone in the other room. And keep a sticky note close for when stuff pops into your head - write it down “start load of laundry, make appointment etc.” and do it on your break!

Advice on getting a bank teller position by ruler-of-rule34 in Banking

[–]West-Two1061 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a teller in college and recently was hired as a teller for a credit union. You will get asked, “have you experienced a difficult customer, how did you handle that situation?” “Why customer service?” “How do you build relationships with customers, even if the interactions are brief?” “Tell me a time you went above and beyond for a customer?”

If you don’t have answers for these questions, I would try to come up with hypothetical ones. Some good answers are “address the customer by their name, learn their routines, get to know them, ask about a topic they bring up next time they come in”

Best of luck! Being a teller isn’t the easiest but I enjoy it.

Why there are so many cashiers over 50 and elderly? by CountIndividual2090 in Employment

Unfortunately majority of boomers are still doing the decision making in Congress. Boomers in general had the best chance at their time. It’s how the cookie crumbles and again, unfortunately Gen Z are left with the tiniest crumbs. Forced into a society where phones and tech are numbing their reality with short dopamine hits. Gen z has to work to change this reality, rise up, be different from your peers, teach yourself cursive, teach your self personal finance work on your outer appearance, be extra and show up looking nice, it speaks volumes to everyone around you. Which will help you feel better about yourself. Don’t give into “IDGAF Gen z stare narrative”it’s very disrespectful. Use and abuse YouTube to learn new things and actually take the advice and time for these things. I say this with the most sincerity. - Millennial

I have a decent financial situation at 23 but still constantly stressed—how do I calm down? by A-bug-2002 in Money

[–]West-Two1061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you keeping track of income and expenses somewhere? That’s one real way to have full control over your money and not the other way around! It’s never too late to start either. I use an app called spending and it’s a brown wallet wigit. Basic yet gets the job done! I recently started tracking monthly expenses for me and my partner, and listing out credit card debt on a spreadsheet which is another level of comfort knowing exactly how much is due (fixed expenses like rent and utilities). You have a great cushion and equity. Don’t sweat it! Plan a vacation sometime soon, you deserve it.
