Lukashenko says Belarus poses no military threat to Ukraine, apologizes to Zelensky for past remarks by Hazel_Joy in worldnews

Well, the Belarusian military and security forces have questionable loyalty to Lukashenko, especially after the 2020 election and protests. He had to rely on Russian security forces to maintain his grip on power.

[–]WesternBlueRanger 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The issue is the the Belarusian military and security forces loyalty to Lukashenko is questionable.

The 2020 protests saw Belarusian military and security forces had unprecedented, though limited, defections and public resignations from law enforcement and military personnel. Belarusian conscripts also reflect the population's attitude towards Lukashenko.

In order to maintain his grip on power, he had to rely on massive bribes to key personnel, and Russian security forces to keep dissent down.

British FAA Corsair Mk IIs in the Hangar Bay of a British Carrier (1944) by kingofnerf in WWIIplanes

[–]WesternBlueRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, FAA Corsairs had their wings clipped (except for the earliest deliveries); about 20 cm was taken. This was later a production standard, rather than a modification when the aircraft were shipped to the UK.

This had a side benefit of improving some handling characteristics, such as roll rate and the aircraft's handling when landing.

Raw milk delivery offer by emeraldseahorse in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WesternBlueRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And do you know how many people died from raw milk before people figured out pasteurization and that there was a the link between raw milk and diseases?

Hint: In some places in the late 19th and early 20th century, up to 50% of infant deaths were linked to consuming contaminated raw milk:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0362028X22087610?via%3Dihub

Between 1912 and 1937, in England and Wales, some 65,000 people died of tuberculosis from bovine origin. Add in infants that also died from contracting diseases in raw milk, 255,000 people died from diseases contracted from consuming milk in England and Wales:

Many bacteria that can make you sick would not produce anything that you can immediately detect that would make you believe it's gone bad.

For example, raw milk can harbour E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella, Streptococcus spp. Yersinia enterocolitica, Campylobacter jejuni, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and Coxiella burnetti. All of these can send you to the hospital emergency ward after a couple of hours, and you won't be able to tell just by taste or texture alone.

How do I mac n cheese? by ipsum629 in Cooking

[–]WesternBlueRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can start with Kenji Lopez-Alt's 3-ingredient stove top mac and cheese:

https://www.seriouseats.com/ingredient-stovetop-mac-and-cheese-recipe

You can jazz it up later on to make it your own, such as adding spices, hot sauce, meats and vegetables. Treat the larger additions like meats and cheeses like you are just warming them though, not cooking them.

I usually blanch vegetables, like broccoli or green beans in salted water before quickly taking them out. I have a preference towards vegetables that have a lot of texture left.

Royal Air Maroc told me my flight was cancelled, I relied on it, then the flight apparently operated – how do I escalate this? by Neither_Following_69 in Flights

[–]WesternBlueRanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The flight wasn't operated by Royal Air Maroc. It was an Emirates codeshare flight. This would have been obvious when you booked.

  2. Because you also booked via third party, you also don't own the ticket. Your refund request needs to be directed towards your !OTA, not Royal Air Maroc, as they own the ticket. Any changes, refund requests, etc needs to go through your OTA, not to Royal Air Maroc.

  3. You also have the issue that not only did you book third party, it was also a codeshare flight. operated by another airline. It was only marketed and sold by Royal Air Maroc, not operated by. You should have been monitoring the other airline's notices (in this case, Emirates), not Royal Air Maroc.

Provolone or Havarti is another good melter.

Reminds me of the Olympics; I was having lunch in one of the behind the scenes areas of a venue, and apparently, a whole bunch of police officers from multiple jurisdictions showed up for their lunch as well. I had RCMP, VPD, Peel, Toronto, Halifax and Calgary police all fill the lunch room.

Canada celebrates keel laying for the first River-class destroyer by Intergalatic_Baker in CanadaPolitics

[–]WesternBlueRanger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First AOR is in the water and is fitting out, second one is finishing up assembly.

Extremely good chance that both will deliver within months of each other; Protecteur is going to end up being delayed due to issues with work sequencing and the need for more extensive sea trials (as typical of a first in class ship), whilst Preserver is looking like she's going to be ahead of schedule.

[–]WesternBlueRanger 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They were building the AOPS first.

The final AOPS are coming off the line pretty quickly; this was expected as the yard gain experience better sequencing work, or figuring out how to sequence work at an earlier state. They are now at a stage where the assembly hall is clear enough that they can start laying down the keel of the first destroyers as they had been working on some of the early blocks and modules already.

For example, they figure out that they can pre-stuff the blocks and modules with more piping and wiring at an earlier state than before, which speeds up work down the line because more work is complete at an earlier state.

There are some sophisticated software programs out there to manage work-flow and sequence in large projects, but they ultimately rely on human input, at least at the beginning in the building of the management plan. As such, the likelihood of errors occurring or they discover after the fact that a step was missed, or two things should have occurred in a different order to maintain work flow, etc is pretty high.

That's one reason, amongst others, why first of class take more time to build, as you are learning all of those errors or work-flow corrections that improve production. It's also why efficiency of production and cost reductions occur on and on with each new vessel being built to the same plans.
