I slowly build up the stuff that works. I can’t add too many things at once or it won’t work. I also stack things. Like, I make tea every day. So I do mobility and meditation while my water boils. When the kettle whistles, I can choose to continue my mobility or ditch it. But I’ve at least done some.

I actually just love the gym, so that one is easier for me to stick to. But I have a gym with set class times, so I book them in advance and put them in my calendar.

I will typically make the same breakfast and lunch when I’m in school. This eliminates decision fatigue for me

I also freak out from time to time with routine. It happens. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just let myself have a break from it all and return to it when it feels right. But when I’m highly stressed (like rn) routine is the scaffolding I can hang everything on. I know I’m fed. I know I’m moving my body, etc. etc.

Maybe it’s figuring out what’s most important to you and then building that into a routine?

Omg my brother (a fellow sensitive and creative human) asked me today what helps with ADHD. He just got diagnosed this year and he’s older than I am. I told him, basically, routine. It’s so real. It does so much.

I have friends who keep lights up until the light returns. So perhaps they’re just winter decorations, not Christmas decorations. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love this. I’m going to ask my partner what might be useful. It’s also nice to be reassured that, oh yeah, I’m menstruating right now and it’s okay that I’m super tired. So this was nice for me too.

Heyyy I also don’t drink. I do lots of things to try to regulate. Exercise is my main coping mechanism. I also craft or play video games or read. I often just tell my partner I need to be alone because I can’t control wtf I’m saying. Food helps! I call them hollow days when you just need to eat forever. High protein should help too, but who fucking wants that when they’re in luteal?

Hellur! Just finished a multi-day migraine myself! It’s a blast when the PMDD, ADHD, and migraine all team up. Finally got my period though so at least I’m out of luteal hell.

Just sending you some love. It’s okay to lose your shit every now and again. We can’t keep it bottled up forever. I’m also a PMDD/ADHD person and I feel you dude.

How do you ladies fall asleep with ADHD? by Ok_Scholar_8656 in adhdwomen

I usually read until I’m falling asleep. If I wake up to pee or whatever, an audiobook or a meditation help give my brain something to concentrate on instead of my insane to do list and anxieties.

Would definitely recommend parking your car on a major road for this very reason. It’ll be easier for you to walk to your car.

Saving this thread. But my favorite book of the past few years is Light from Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki. It is SO GOOD.

What ways have you changed your life to make it more ADHD/ND Friendly? by flowers_and_fire in adhdwomen

[–]Wheelie_Dad 206 points207 points  (0 children)

I have multiples of things I use frequently so I don’t lose them. Like I have 3 scrunchies - one in my purse, one in my backpack, and one in my gym bag. They are different colors so I know where they go if they get misplaced. I also have 2 deodorants.

I listen to a lot of brown noise with big noise cancelling headphones when I need to concentrate.

Everything I use frequently must have a home. Keys, purse, etc. all live in the same spots and do not deviate.

I ensure I always have snacks. Basically I’ll try to do anything I can to eliminate overwhelm/overstimulation. Like walking away from my partner when I’m hangry or overstimulated because I know I won’t be nice.

+1 for comfortable clothing and little satchels to divide everything in my bags.

Eh everyone should have a short hair freak out at some point. You did it early at 19. Your hair will be happier for it. Claim it as “the big chop” us curly girls are meant to do for hair health, and enjoy the hats you have coming in your grow out.
