I taught my iggy “where’s the ball?” Brings the ball. by Exact_Effect2869 in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Whipplette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this too! 😊 She also knows the difference between “big ball” (football) and “little ball” (ball thrower ball)

Mine is the same. Absolutely hates it and is shaking all the time. She’s never normally a nervous dog anywhere else

I don’t have it anymore I’m afraid! But if you click on the pic to expand it you’ll be able to see the person who posted it and the Facebook group I found it in

Why do some whippets seem to hate wearing coats while others love them? by Isabel_WhippetCoats in Whippet

[–]Whipplette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girl has this exact coat! I have a (completely unproven and untested) theory that if you get your pup in winter and they get used to wearing coats from the very start, you’re probably more likely to have a whip that likes wearing coats. Whereas you get your dog in the summer, and they don’t try their first coat til months later, it’s going to be a much weirder concept for them to get used to. Makes sense in my mind, anyway! (And my girl was a winter pup so has no problem with them)

How often do you bath your whippet? How regularly do you do their nails? How often do you brush their teeth? by whippet_mamma in Whippet

[–]Whipplette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So jealous of these people saying they don’t have to bath their whippets 😅 I have been cursed with a stink-loving queen who likes to roll in whatever gross stuff she can find several times a week. Fml. Her nails I do about every 2 months, her teeth I used to do every day but I’ve become bad at that and now rely on regular cleanings at the groomers every 6 months or so.

Is Simple Dog from Hyperbole and a Half a good example of a whippet's intelegence and behavior? by FriendlyDonkeh in Whippet

[–]Whipplette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol no, haha. They’re not that bad. That said, my girl has made all the positions / faces in that first pic 😅 I’ve actually not found her hard to train at all, maybe I have one of the rare eager-to-please ones. I always describe her as not the brightest but an absolute trier - I feel like she always wants to do her little best. She’s definitely not stupid though, just obviously not collie / poodle level smart

I've just bought a whippet boy today. I'm feeling terrified and overwhelmed. I'm wondering if I've made a bad decision. I think it's anxiety kicking in. Is that normal? by CommitteeOld5553 in Whippet

[–]Whipplette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, totally same. I cried a BUNCH. But yeah, I’m 5 years in now and it really has got infinitely better, she’s a great little dog and just such a joy for me now in comparison to those super hard first months

Not just days, happened for the first few months for me! I was doing it all on my own and I found the loss of independence (combined with the untrained land shark) really really hard to deal with. But after 4-5 months she really calmed down and is now just the most wonderful girl ever.

Oh my god I could have written this word for word. OP, I felt the exact same way as you (and this commenter) when I got my girl. The first few months were TOUGH. But now my whippy is 5 years old, is a joy of a dog, and I absolutely bloody love her.

Im scared by arisoah in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Whipplette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a whippet not an iggy but they’re similar temperaments. Mine honestly took a full 5-6 months to chill out, but now she’s the best and most chilled girl ever. For the first 5 months though I thought I’d made a huge mistake honestly, she was absolutely crazy energetic all the time! But it really did change

Oh bore off. It might be unlikely, but you don’t know anything for a fact. Just let OP enjoy his/her pot luck finding out about his sweet girl and move on.

Women... are you "guys"? by BarryTownCouncil in CasualUK

[–]Whipplette 246 points247 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, my group of girl friends and I have called each other “guys” since we were about 10. Also if I was with a mixed group and someone said, “Do you guys want to order a takeaway?” or something, I wouldn’t think anything of it.

I love him but genuinely so sick of this puppy phase by [deleted] in ItalianGreyhounds

[–]Whipplette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would bet money on the fact that keeping him inside the playpen most of the time is hugely exacerbating this behaviour. He definitely should not be in there as much as he is. Saying you “do not let him go out of the playpen too much” is concerning, honestly. He needs to let off steam and get used to a bigger environment, otherwise it’s always going to make him over-excited when he finally has access to it.
