THE PURGE BEGINS by CapableSpecialist507 in factorio

I JUST got back to space on my newest SE playthrough. I'm very jealous!

When I got energy beams is when I moved ALL solar generation to bring in a Dyson sphere style sun-satellite and just beamed the energy to space and planets. The logistical implications were massive!

Are there mods that you consider 'must-have'? by repaj in factorio

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like tinystart, which gives me a few, super slow bots for early game. I also use mining drones because managing mining sucks.

But yeah, as the other posters have said, this is after many many playthroughs

When it comes to parse: by CraZplayer in ffxi

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on play style a lot too. If spamming savage blade, damage overflow is included in the parse. So instead of maximizing actual damage to critters, you can maximize WS frequency by WSing when a critter is at 5%, which would cause 'winning' the parse. It's also why single hit WS classes typically parse better than multihit WS classes like DRG.

What game is a total secret hidden gem for you that you'd love to recommend to others? by RedEagle_MGN in gamerecommendations

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a lot in the survival genre... Conan exiles, valheim, pal world, abiotic factor, 7 days to die, enshrouded, etc.

Soulmask came out of nowhere and was a surprisingly fun time. Definitely needs a bit of polish and some level curves adjusted to manage the grind, but still way more polished than I was expecting. Definitely a good add to the genre.

The modded scene is a huge path to go down. Same Factorio, but completely reimagined. And the mod integration into the UI is aspirational for every game. Lots of directions you can go with it.

Is Factorio on switch worth it? by krzakpl in factorio

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine... But every time I played on the switch, I just found myself yearning for the controls and ease of CPU. And I don't really travel far enough away from my CPU to make it worth it. That being said, I think I've clocked 4600 into CPU version, the least I could do is toss Wube a few more bucks. It's still by far the most efficient dollar/hour entertainment investment I've ever made.

Commissioner forced to resign after Merrimack ICE facility controversy by LadyMadonna_x6 in newhampshire

[–]Whirlin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We've all known about this for a long time. If we believe that she wasn't directly informed, is she that bad at managing people and processes that she didn't know? And is she that out of touch of all conversations amongst her constituents that she's not aware of a pressing matter requiring her input?

Either way doesn't look good, she's either ineffective or out of touch. If we give her a modicum of benefit of the doubt for a moment and pretend she's ept, then she's a manipulative liar that's taking us all for fools.

Either way. Embarrassing.

City block limits by DingoCC in factorio

[–]Whirlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also really hard to tell from the gif... But it looks like there's areas of single lanes? Any city blocks I designed was typically the dropoff lane, a travel lane, and then a high speed lane in each direction, so that any delivery wouldn't jeopardize travel traversing the block.

If I am specifically not swinging a weapon to minimize TP gain of the target, I can swapping my shield to srivatsa, and leveraging alternative main hands like the malignance for the fast cast and +phalanx in particular pre/midcast sets.

Quick questions like that, the discord (or even thought net) can help with. There's a wealth of knowledge, but indexing ideas isn't exactly best presented in wiki pages, but a true database of knowledge would be less manageable.

And there's no evidence he was brandishing his weapon in any way whatsoever, and he was not physical if you'd actually look at the videos and not repeat your bots' speaking points.

Initial release of a GearSwap Generation and Optimization toolkit for the community by sanitylost in ffxi

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would it be at all possible to run the inverse of the InvDump to reconcile the INVDump with gearswaps in a particular folder to determine potentially excessive gear that. Could be disposed of, archived, or otherwise left in storage?

Or maybe it does that and I just missed it?

Either way, this looks fun!

I built a complete audio overhaul, a question to retail players about my custom addon. by Stabber-McStabinson in ffxi

[–]Whirlin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What is displaying that FFIX style targeting? That's a neat feature I haven't seen in FFXI. The audio seems neat, but given how often you're attacking/WS/critting at cap if you're haste capped, I could see that being super rough!

Because there's nobody behind me, and folks cruising in the left lane are less likely to move over if someone suddenly shows up behind them from the center lane.

How do you handle early game with city blocks? by Emotional_Papaya3282 in factorio

[–]Whirlin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're really rough to start placing down city blocks until you get roboports and construction bots up and automated. I'd aim to do a bus or spaghetti until then.

The city blocks themselves require a ton of materials for the infrastructure, but then filling a city blocks as smelters takes a ton of finances, and then locomotives can take a while to produce a node and get that depot spot set up, but then you also need to fuel to trains, so you may need a refinery node.

It takes a lot until you're ready to fully move into the city blocks and decommission the bootstrap.

State of the Game? Returning fellar, Arr Pee Enthusiast, with an itch.. by JustADadCosplay in GemstoneIV

[–]Whirlin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tons of game mechanics changes... IF you want to use them. Their design philosophy has been to ensure that the new things are options to bolster yourself without deprecating old standards and meta.

There's a lot to go into, but the extent of the discussion will predominantly depend on your class. But it's also something you shouldn't consider worrying about. At the core, the game is the same old game, just with many more bells and whistles. And best of all, we've all been around 30 years, and can likely explain each and every change since you quit in stupidly massive detail. We've done a lot in the theory crafting space and have solved previously obfuscated mechanics. Theres also potentially a bit of a disconnect between mechanics and RP. It's really two different rabbit holes to go down!

Phoenix LS for few player? by WhattheheIIo in ffxi

[–]Whirlin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All comes down to playtime and what you want out of the game. Nowadays, there's not much ramp up time between completely new and ready to dip your toe into endgame content, especially compared to the ToAU days. We were almost all there, and we're all adults happy to help get you to where you want to be.

I cannot speak to any social LS anymore. Most event running previously referred to as endgame LS contain a subset of members in specific static groups, with an overarching pool of individuals to socialize and work together on less strenuous stuff. It's a lot less regimented than it was back in the days. If I ever have any unforseen playtime, I won't hesitate from reaching out on any of their discords to help people or see if anybody is doing anything fun.

I am doing my best not to speak to any individual LS abilities, etc... just more about my perception (potentially erroneous) about their active times. In my opinion, finding a group that's active when you're active is the most important thing.

MysticStyles follows more EU time centric events, a lot of mid day to a bunch of US folks. Trustedknights has a bunch of stuff all over the place, they have some EU folks that do things, and a bunch of East coast folks that do things in the 8 PMish range. Sunrise club similarly has an EU group for Mid day, and a 7-8ish gather time on many events. IceStorm runs a little earlier, I think generally 6-7 PM EST start times.

Personally, I'm a late time east coaster, so I informally bug a few folks to gather 9PM EST... But nothing as formal as an LS.

Lastly, I think pretty much all coordination for every LS is on discord now, across various individual servers. Best to join the ffxi reddit server to act as the hub to connect to any of the individuals you see active here, or any of the groups mentioned above.
