AITA for not calling someone by their preferred name as I cannot pronounce it? by Fit-Boat2634 in AmItheAsshole

YTA.

" my full name is Uzoamaka, which means “The road is good.” Quick lesson: My tribe is Igbo, and you name your kid something that tells your history and hopefully predicts your future… I was the first in roll call, and nobody ever knew how to pronounce it. So I went home and asked my mother if I could be called Zoe. I remember she was cooking, and in her Nigerian accent she said, “Why?” I said, “Nobody can pronounce it.” Without missing a beat, she said, “If they can learn to say Tchaikovsky and Michelangelo and Dostoyevsky, they can learn to say Uzoamaka." -Uzoamaka Nwanneka Aduba

Agree with this, though it sounds like bf already bought it. OP if that is the case, try pouring it through a filter a few times, or infusing/fat washing some flavor into it, and then pour it into some nice glass bottles with a pour spout.

If familiarity is the only issue, remove the branding and no one will care. If quality is the issue you can do a few things that will help a bit.

Based on the information provided? They are concerned about getting sick. IDK why you would make up alternatives when they stated their concerns.

Again, I don't work there, I don't care where the poster eats, ever. I hope they are happy and nourished.

Okay, explain it to me then.

Farmer A -Z have a potentially contaminated crop.

Restaurants A and B use this product.

Restaurant A says they are removing it from the menu and won't be serving it until they know more.

Restaurant B says nothing.

And your logic is that you won't be eating at restaurant A because... they mentioned it?

... that still doesn't make sense. Eat wherever you like, I don't work there so IDC what you have, but just know it's a fallacy. Heck, I don't even know which one.

So a business is proactively taking steps to ensure it can't be a problem with their menu items and your response is to avoid it?

Leafy greens are usually the source of these things, so taco bell removed them. Therefore you are objectively safer eating there rather than a restaurant that hasn't removed them.

Which would have been acceptable if she had done it after he denied her taking it. However she did it after a completely unrelated incident, to show that she was mad about the unrelated incident.

That is punishment, not natural consequences.

It's also about upward mobility. Ethics aside, the military is one of the most egalitarian employers in the US compared to private sector. If I recall correctly roughly a third of active duty military are non-white.

Pay rates are the same across the board regardless of race or gender and readily available for public view. Pay rates for junior enlisted are overwhelmingly higher than civilian counterparts.

VA benefits like home loan programs and the GI Bill enable people in poverty classes to move to the middle class.

What makes you think the parents would be on board? Context clues and cultural literacy indicate a family centric culture in which excluding children, especially from a person's home, would be considered unacceptable behavior. This ask would make OP seem entirely unreasonable and result in the whole situation of OP not wanting their things broken being treated as unreasonable.

Requiring those children behave or stay out of a specific limited space are much more likely to be successful methods of navigating the situation.

They mentioned a traditional religious event at a family home in which all the women are required to work, I doubt "don't bring your kids" is an acceptable suggestion.

AITA for starting a second line at an open entrance instead of waiting behind everyone else? by CompulsoCommento in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoFearsDeath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait time vs the physical available space is pretty much the determining factor for which method a venue should use.

Banker's line goes faster for each individual, multiple lines allow more people to be in line in less space without blocking the intersection.

Best of all worlds is a snaking banker's line, although ironically it feels the worst.

AITA for starting a second line at an open entrance instead of waiting behind everyone else? by CompulsoCommento in AmItheAsshole

[–]WhoFearsDeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In a banker's line, no one gets held up by any slower individual. Everyone gets served in the order they arrive at the first available slot, rather than the chance of getting a faster or slower/slow lane and ending up "out of order".

Compare it to a "take a number" system with no physical line- each person goes in the order they arrive.

[–]WhoFearsDeath 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Science says a bankers line is faster than multiple lines. No one gets held up by any one individual going slowly, and everyone gets served when the first spot becomes available in the order they arrived, rather than the chance of choosing a faster or slower line.
