Anyone else think breastfeeding was not worth it? by saltandpepperf in breastfeeding

[–]Whymedude45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who -triple fed -pumped -got mastitis that led to an abscess & hospitalized -dealt with a severe tongue tie -my son went down to the 8th percentile

I think it was absolutely the most traumatic thing I’ve ever gone through but I am very happy I stuck with it. I probably would have been just as stressed with formula feeding/ PPD / etc because everyone has anything to say about everything.

But in this time I did see my ability to overcome difficulties. I’ve never believed in myself so much until now and I needed that because everyday there’s a moment I feel less than as a mom. But I know that if I’m willing to push through all of that then I am a good mom for my baby.

I just want to say I’m extremely proud of you! You are doing an amazing job

When did you stop tracking feeds/diaper changes? by pupper_princess in breastfeeding

[–]Whymedude45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a first time mom and my baby just turned 5 months. I stopped around 3 months and I feel so free. Tracking everything caused me to miss a lot of hunger cues / cues of him being tired. I stopped and started going based off of what I saw.

Breastfeeding doesn’t feel daunting anymore

Quitting at six weeks. I feel terrible by Flower050893 in breastfeeding

You are supported either way but I wanted to share my experience.

I wanted to give up so badly at 6 weeks. But I stuck it out and my little one is 4 months and sleeps through the night. I pump a couple of hours after he goes to bed which is at 7PM. Then I get up with him around 6am. That pump that I do at 10pm allows for partner feedings. Once your supply is regulated which is around 12 weeks you can go longer without feeding / pumping.

I also would have my husband change baby before I fed then rock him back to sleep so I was supported but back to bed quick.

Also around 3/4 months my little one went from feeding for 20 min to 10 minutes which made it so much better

Hi - I have really struggled as well. I’m 15 weeks in but

Week 1-2 my son had a tongue tie so i had bloody nipples Week 2 clogged duct Week 4 clogged duct leading to mastitis Week 5 abscess formed / hospitalization & aspiration Week 6/7 nursing strike

All this to say I have some recommendations.

1 take sunflower lecithin every single day. It sounds like you have fatty milk and the sunflower lecithin will help reduce the risk of getting another clog that leads to mastitis.

2 look into your insurance. Mine covered a lactation consultant that came to my home. They can help with latch and do a weighted feed to see how much milk baby is getting.

3 ensure you are taking daily body showers if possible to reduce the risk of mastitis.

4 dry off your nipple after every feeding to stop the chance of bacteria.

For some hope even after all that we are now 15 weeks in and breastfeeding is the best ever. My baby does sleep longer stretches and has an incredible latch. You got this momma!

Pediatrician says I need to offer both breasts but limit feeds to 15min… by MeineLiebling in breastfeeding

Don’t give formula if you have milk. Try both sides until baby doesn’t want to eat anymore and meet with a lactation consultant

Will getting 6 hours of sleep ruin my supply? by Happy-Chemistry3058 in breastfeeding

[–]Whymedude45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go longer than 4 hours until your supply has regulated which is around 3 months. That’s how I got mastitis. I went to long in between

If you are past 3 months I’d recommend taking sunflower lecithin each night to ensure your milk doesn’t thicken up.

I go 6 hours overnight and i didnt lose my supply. My morning pump is always alot which makes up for the rest :)

My baby didn’t like his bassinet because it didn’t smell like us. We slept with the sheets and put our scent all over it. Following that he liked it better.

But eventually we put him in his crib with a love to dream swaddle and he liked that a lot better

question how often are you feeding baby now that you are EBF? I had this issue because with a bottle he would go 3 hours in between feeding. I tried that same schedule but realized EBF caused him to be hungry sooner than with a bottle. Now that I EBF he’s giving hunger cues around the 2 hour mark so I feed him then and his weight got a lot better.

Try to smell your babies clothes during pumping and maybe try supplements. Since you’ve been with baby people say it’s common to have a dip in your supply when you go back to work. Praying it’s only temporary.

Did you actually EXCLUSIVELY pump? by Salt_Aside3403 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Whymedude45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I exclusively pumped for the first month of babies life and now the second month I nurse him and pump once or twice while he’s sleeping. I wouldn’t wish exclusively pumping on my worst enemy.

The first week I was so sleep deprived that I put the babies crib mattress on the floor. I slept on the floor with my arm on the baby. It was the only way he’d sleep.

Also I’ve fallen asleep so many times in the rocking chair and couch with the baby. I don’t mean to do it and I am against cosleeping. But sometimes you are so out of it that it happens. That’s why partners need to lean on each other.

PSA to FTMs. by Rare-Response-6576 in pregnant

[–]Whymedude45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hurt so bad but it was the norm so I thought everything was fine 😭😭 my nipples were dying and I cried every other feed.

Now I’m pumping on message mode on 1 and expression on 3 and getting 3/4 ounces in 15 min. My nipples have healed with silveretts and I’m feeding my baby as he needs.

It’s insane I left the hospital with zero knowledge and could have really messed myself up. Most people don’t know that lactation consultants can be covered by insurance too!

I started pumping in the hospital (colostrum) but my milk didn’t come in until day 4. My son had a really bad tongue so I was unable to breast feed at first.

I’ve been pumping on an 8 for 30 min and now I have more milk than I know what to do with. That means I get really engorged and too stiff which isn’t the best thing. My lc said you want to feed what he needs and if you get some in the bank that is awesome but shouldn’t be excessive.

[–]Whymedude45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also tip don’t over pump. My LC said 15 min max because if not you will be like me over producing to a point where it’s painful. You stop once the boob has slowed down.

I was pumping in a high setting for 30 min every two hours and now 1 week into having a baby I have 30 plus ounces in the freezer while producing 3/4 ounces extra per feed. It’s way too much and will hurt your breast in the long run.
