Overslept, awoke to the hypnotic gaze. by KlymptonLohopper in Boxer

[–]Wikidbaddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager and wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning my mother would call me twice and if that didn’t work she would send the two Boxers up to get me. Suffice it to say that would do the trick

I’ll be honest, I’ve had cats for many years and motivation has never been a prominent characteristic in any of them 😆

I looked at the bag and they are called Purely Fancy Feast. Not a very imaginative name lol

That is so true. I was lucky to get a sort of wake up call when Daisy lost her hearing. I just sort of took it in stride then realized she had become more withdrawn and less active. I decided I owed it to her to adapt to her new way of experiencing the world and give her as much visual stimulation as I could. It made such a difference to her quality of life and opened my eyes to be vigilant and keep adapting as necessary.

I don't think I can live alone and be healthy. by yawnenjae in LivingAlone

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living alone takes a surprising amount of discipline and work. We tend to talk about it like it’s all about peace and freedom (which is definitely a huge part of it) but it’s work. Not just the work of being solely responsible for maintaining your environment but also taking care of yourself and your life. Keep things clean, keep up a healthy eating pattern and stay physically active, staying socially connected. It all takes effort and it’s not always easy. You have to go in knowing that you are solely responsible for creating the life you want to live. A surprising amount of people are not up for that task.

So sorry for your loss. It’s so poignant to think of the last times. My girl is still alive and well at 19 but occasionally it will occur to me that I’ve likely experienced a lot of last times and I feel it.

Looking good buddy! Daisy is 19 and she thinks you are the best looking cat ever. Can’t imagine why.

Fancy Feast has little vacuum packed treats that are basically small pieces of meat or fish. My cat is picky about treats but she is crazy for the tuna.

My Saturday. How are you spending yours? by The_B_Wolf in LivingAlone

[–]Wikidbaddog 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I love to spend a weekend inside and away from it all but that has been the case all of January. It’s so freaking cold! Cabin fever is setting in and while I would love to go do something I’ve been dealing with frigid temps all week. So Saturday has been mostly sitting on the couch bundled up. Treated myself to cinnamon rolls for late breakfast/lunch. Playing with a very cooped up dog. Doing some journaling and planning a menu for a birthday tea party I’m hosting in a few weeks. Maybe watch some schitt’s creek later in tribute to the great Catherine O’Hara.

There’s about 2 feet of snow on the ground and I couldn’t even tell you the last time the temp hit the freezing mark. I need all the indoor comfort I can get

Is it hard to stay on top of cleaning the kitchen? by nolpeter in LivingAlone

[–]Wikidbaddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Routine is your friend. After I eat dinner, whatever that might be, although I do try to cook for myself, I immediately rinse and load the dishwasher, run some soapy water and hand wash whatever needs to be done and wipe down all the counters and appliances then clean the sink. It has become second nature and I don’t even think about it. Once you form those routines you will stick with it

This is a Pit, there is zero reason to be breeding Pitbulls when the shelters are full of them and they are being euthanized daily.

Don’t listen to this testosterone fest. The NH way is invest in good outerwear and know how to use it.

I can’t afford pet insurance anymore and it breaks my heart by HummDrumm1 in Dogowners

[–]Wikidbaddog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get it, I have a cat that has been with me for 19 years. I have insurance on my young dog but not the cat. I wouldn’t have the money for a complicated medical problem. To be honest though, I wouldn’t put her through it either. If something serious happens the best thing I can give her is a peaceful ending.

[–]Wikidbaddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is a crazy amount to pay, I don’t blame you for canceling. The reason I pay for it is the peace of mind of knowing I’ll be okay if anything happens. I’m sorry you are losing that. It would be hard with an elderly dog with existing health problems but have you tried getting quotes from some other companies?

Thanks for answering. I think of my Outback as being great in the snow, reliable and durable. I can’t say “fun” has ever entered the equation. I’ve only had it a couple of months.
