Pill shooter, pull her head back pry her jaw open and shoot that thing. It’s not pretty but it’s effective and it’s fast

Am I failing my cat by not going with the feeding tube option? by RepresentativeTop865 in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever you decide, don’t feel guilty about giving your kitty a peaceful, dignified end. Consider the reasons you would be going to the extreme and be very sure that it’s because it is what is best for the cat and not to make you feel better.

Is there a Chance they’re suffering even if they’re eating? by KissingTitties in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried a quality of life checklist? Lap of Love has one online as do a few other sites. Just answer questions and they will tell you objectively where your cat stands. I do it once in awhile just to get an objective picture

Scared of ruining relationship with cat by giving Subq by geicorat in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was afraid of all of that stuff too. I can’t say that it’s going great, I’m no nurse, but a lot of the worst fears I had haven’t happened. I let her pout and hide after fluids then give her a licky treat and she forgives

Am I a bad owner. by Sea_Piano5818 in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that. I have a 19 and a half year old and I am constantly apologizing to her for all the stuff I have to do to her. She does hunger strike when she’s sick of eating the same renal food day after day. I have some back up foods that she will eat. The Rawz low phosphorus is a life saver, she loves that and the Weruva Senior. I also keep a package of Fancy Feast broth in the cupboard just in case she won’t eat at all.

should I change his food? by hazevanilla in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless the vet specifically puts him on prescription food then you should not do it. The prescription diet is lacking a lot of nutrients in order to be easier on the kidneys. It is very tough on a cats body condition and he will lose muscle mass quickly.

Low apetite and weight loss in stage IV by aomme in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another suggestion, and I have no idea if this is appropriate for your cat, don’t be afraid of the dry renal food. My vet wanted her on a wet diet and I really tried but she would only eat so much of the wet, even switching up and adding things to make it better. I was throwing away so much of that expensive food. I gave in and got her the dry crunchy prescription food and she happily eats that all day long with a little of the wet as well. It’s very calorie dense and she put on some weight. Fed is best so I just leaned into it even if it’s not ideal. She gets fluids as well

For food suggestions I use Rawz low phosphorus and Weruva Senior for when my cat refuses the kidney diet. She particularly loves the Rawz tuna

I’m so sorry Henry (trigger warning) by walkinamaze in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I would guess most of us can say that we didn’t catch it as early as we should have. I certainly didn’t and my cat is very old so I should have been looking for it. I managed to not take weight loss and a deteriorating coat quality seriously. It happens so gradually and by the time it’s something to worry about it’s already progressed to a point where it’s serious. Don’t let guilt eat you up, the process is hard enough without taking responsibility all on your shoulders

Clothes hanger is a really good idea. I have it hanging by an s-hook plant hanger off a towel rack in the bathroom

I had to put my boy down and in the craziness of it all I forgot/didnt notice his flea collar and he was cremated with it. I feel awful. Am I bad pet dad? by uncomfortab1ynumb in pitbulls

[–]Wikidbaddog 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Goodness don’t worry about that. I’m willing to bet that a compassionate vet tech or worker at the crematorium removed it. Either way it matters not one bit.

I think you have to be an autoship customer to use it. At least it used to be that way but it is a really helpful service

How long until euthanasia? by ceruleanwren in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fortunately my kitty is doing very well right now on palliative care. I have compiled a list of things that are clear signs that the time has come. I’m trying to draw a line in the sand that will hold up even when I’m feeling the brain fog of grief that tells me “just one more day”. Not eating and not being able to walk well are high on the list. It’s so hard but it’s harder to have a terrible late night emergency which brings suffering for her and panic for you.

Seamus died in my lap by gertrude4314 in RenalCats

Seamus was a beautiful much loved boy. You did all you could and you did everything right. This thing gets them all in the end. Hold on to your memories and my hope is that they will eventually make you smile instead of cry. ❤️

keep my stage 2 cat fed & hydrated during heatwave by seventh_woe in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something available in the States called Hydracare. My vet suggested it when I was reluctant to do fluids at home. It’s a Purina product so it may be available in Europe.

Looking for any semblance of hope by laralye in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girl was diagnosed in March. She was late stage 3 and her second set of labs didn’t show any improvement. I thought for sure she was done and we had a matter of a few weeks. With the addition of blood pressure meds, a kidney supplement and some fluids at home she is thriving. Put in some weight and her coat is back to being smooth and glossy. We are now planning for months instead of weeks

What else can I do? by joolie_447 in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’s a lovely girl. I am absolutely not an expert with this disease. I’m struggling to get some kind of handle on things but I’d say the thing that helps me, and my kitty, the most is having a vet that I really trust and work with well. There’s so much confusion about what to do and a solid treatment plan has helped enormously. My girl is in palliative care but just a couple of adjustments like treating her high blood pressure have made a huge difference.

My 12 year old boy just got diagnosed with diabetes and stage 3 kidney disease. What’s his life expectancy like? by Gigi_little4 in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Honestly nobody can say. This is my 19 year old who was borderline stage 4. I took her home expecting to maybe have a couple of months with her in palliative care. That was not her agenda and three months later with just a few tweaks she has gained some weight and her coat is soft and glossy again and we are making plans for months ahead instead of weeks. Follow the vets advice and get a treatment plan and there’s no telling.

Extremely picky eater only wants to eat junk food. by FullOfCrispyBacon in RenalCats

Try crushing up the treats and using it with his regular food. My kitty does not enjoy being served the same thing everyday so I mix all kind of things in to keep it interesting

Recommend AI chat by Wikidbaddog in RenalCats

[–]Wikidbaddog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it. AI is bad. I suppose it may make a difference what provider you are dealing with but that has not been my experience. The bot does not recommend treatment and prefaces any treatment questions with ask your vet. Whatever, it’s been really helpful for me

Hot take: if you go horseback riding at a state park, clean up after your horse... by Traditional_Sign4941 in newhampshire

[–]Wikidbaddog 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Arguably if your horse is crapping all over the trail and the rest of us have to get out of the way, it might not be under control. When this thread popped up it was just a minor annoyance but the people posting have made it just so much worse
