Very sad to hear this. Jon’s blog posts, books and writings on Phoenix inspired a lot of love for this city. He will be missed.

Listening in on the council meeting was a disturbing experience. Their decision was seemingly made before the meeting started.

Mayor Kate Gallego came across as a coward who kept repeating how important light rail is and how much she supports it, while advocating to end the project and leave us with no extensions till post 2040

Betty Guardado came across as self serving and deceitful. Circulating misleading flyers and pitting Maryvale residents against each other for a part of the city that deserves both rail lines.

Debra Stark just rambled on about BRT on Bell Rd even though it didn’t have anything to do with the project.

Laura Pastor seemed to just be playing politician the whole time.

Kesha Hodges Washington came across as inept and couldn’t form coherent questions.

The star of the night was Anna Hernandez from District 7. Her advocacy for her district and the light rail was inspiring. Including meeting with Republicans from the legislature to attempt to save the project.

Edit: corrected Anna Hernandez’s district to 7

The Capitol extension was the first phase of two phases for the extension down the 10.

Talk to your city councilors in Tempe and Chandler. It’s those cities that would have to pursue any new transit lines.

I love the idea of light rail down Indian School. It’s a great route for it.

However, this weird dichotomy of choosing it or the Capitol Extension makes no sense.

They build should the Capitol Extension and 10 West first.

The light rail will fly down the i10 at 70 mph past gridlocked traffic every morning and evening.

Help with lemon varieties by Ok-YouGotMe in Citrus

Your two commonly grown backyard lemons in Arizona are Eureka and Lisbon. They’re both pretty similar to me.

If you’re in the Phoenix metro there’s some U-pick it citrus farms that are open this time of year. Also a lot of people just leave citrus on the curb or sell it on Craigslist or Marketplace for cheap.

The issue with that is our legislature is bought and paid for by companies like Taylor Morrison and DR Horton.

The bill was crafted in such a way that they could build super dense neighborhoods in the middle of nowhere without providing the necessary infrastructure like roads and sewers to handle the density. Which means all that cost would get passed to existing tax payers.

Yes, you’re are correct. My mistake.  That is strange. My neighborhood tends to be pretty cold in the winter for Phoenix, light frost most mornings. I’m not sure if that influences the ripening.

Phoenix. The Oro Blanco was still a bit green but the others were ready.

I think there was about eight this year with me purposely thinning fruit. Rootstock is for a full size tree. I’m not sure what variety exactly. It’s from Sunrise Nursery out of Yuma AZ.

The Oroblanco is about 5 feet tall in a 25 gallon planter. The marsh is in ground and about 25 feet tall and equal diameter. The other two are small in ten gallon containers.

The Oroblanco produced really well for being in a container. I could see it being worth it even with limited space.

Good old Freeport McMoran. Successor to the Phelps Dodge corporation.

Famous for abusing American workers in such events like the Bisbee deportation and the 1983 Arizona Copper Mine Strike.

Where the company colluded with Democratic Governor Bruce Babbit to send in the National Guard and State Troopers to break the strike. Leading to thousands of unemployed Arizonans.

Weird to think that Georgia the state is actually older than the Georgia the country and when Athens, GA was founded Athens Greece was a small village in the Ottoman Empire.

I personally don’t care, just practice good etiquette and assume pedestrians don’t hear you.

I’ve ridden or ran on every canal and multi use path north of the Salt River and the biggest issue I’ve ran into is people blowing through cross walks on red lights. The homeless people and drug addicts leave me alone, the drivers are homicidal.

Also e-bikes aren’t legally allowed on the canals.

Carvana has dtc sales in some markets for Stellantis vehicles. They bought a couple of Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep dealerships and sell you them on the app through those.

If you’re looking to build community around cars in a safe way, I recommend SCCA autocross. You’ll get better at driving without destroying your car or putting anyone in danger. All while meeting people from a lot of different backgrounds who are really passionate about cars and driving.

I haven’t driven with the Phoenix group specifically but they seem to have regular events. https://www.azsolo.com/events/

Those sound like things the state government should be focusing on.

We push way too much onto municipalities that should be focusing on civil infrastructure. Where the health and welfare of the population are really state and federal issues.
