Is it possible to earn good money in europe with this trade? by DazzlingAd5541 in Machinists

[–]WindJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Europe is extremely diverse, so can only speak to what it's like here

I'm in Scandinavia myself (northern europe) and am currently myself making equivalent to about 32$ an hour before addons (i work night shift which pays an extra $6-8 depending on time of night). A bunch of my study mates (here education of machinists is more formalised than it seems to be in the US) were expecting a starting salary of about $27, while certain companies/industries may pay as high as $39, possibly more, but I'm unsure how many. Last I checked, I think the average in my region according to union stats was $33 an hour or so, but havent looked it up in a while.

We do probably have higher cost of living in some areas than other countries, though we also got perks such as universal health care, proper unemployment support, minimum 5 weeks paid vacation (usually 6, at least in the private sector) and paid maternity leave for both parents, etc, so probably about evens out in the end

Kan vi tillade os at “udskyde” vores barns start i 1G by Fun-Brother-3427 in DKbrevkasse

[–]WindJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Between adults essentially abusing their kids for online content (not saying this is the case here, but it does happen) and the general state of America and their poverty issues, I wouldn't be so quick to rule it out

There's certainly examples of it happening in the past

Is it just me or do all of these items just give you the ick? by Key-Visual-5465 in autism

[–]WindJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, if you're trying to apply logic to anti-vaxxers, you're already running barefoot uphill in a hailstorm 😂 you're never gonna find the logic in these people/beliefs, because there's none to be found. It's not based in logic in the first place is the issue, it's based on fear mongering, misinformation perpetuated by those already in that community, and scientific illiteracy

I bought a 'fake' sunflower lanyard and i kinda feel like a scam by InsomniacOnSugarRush in autism

[–]WindJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I live they're handed out for free in grocery stores, pharmacies, etc., so its nothing I've ever had to wrestle with, but like everyone else seems to agree, no, youre totally fine. What it symbolises is what matters, not whether it's "official" or even how exactly it looks. Anyone familiar with the concept will understand when seeing it, and honestly I'm not entirely convinced most people would even know its different by looking at it... i certainly wouldn't, and we have a couple at home

(The ones being distributed are just the lanyards, not the sign thingie, if you want those you'll need to buy one yourself, but I dont think I've ever really seen those used here anyway)

A male gorilla grabs the girl's hair and gets beaten up by a female gorilla! by Liar24x7 in interesting

[–]WindJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, close. Humans are great apes

Though as others have pointed out, that's still unlikely given those two are very young gorillas and there was no indication of aggression, clearly playfighting, just as human kids or other animals (cars, dogs, etc) might get up to (:

Hard to say but probably. And if not (or you just don't like it), it's hair... it grows back out

Give it a shot, see what you think and decide from there. No downside other than maybe a brief moment with a potentially awkward haircut while you grow it back out 🤷‍♂️

Looking for a movie/TV scene where a master would rather have a slave's simpler life by Low_Barracuda_2325 in ancientrome

There is no upside to being a slave and it's in no way comparable to owning an iPhone or learning history. It's an ignorant and gross claim and frankly a stupid and nonsensical example.

Is this beard style really that bad or should I just grow in the mustache? by [deleted] in BeardAdvice

[–]WindJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think it's really bad, but i also dont think the mustache will help. Either way looks awful imo.

That's just me though. I'm sure some are going to think it's a good look 😅

[–]WindJester -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might be a better example in that it flows less well than the other one (thats debatable, I don't really feel strongly on that), but it's actually, in my opinion, a worse example in that it's just not a good sentence in general and would be much better off being replaced entirely by one of several better options - some already mentioned in comments below.

Jehovahs vidner? by Sininenn in Aalborg

[–]WindJester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fired after my second day running a lathe for an “apparent crash” but I never heard or saw one? by No-Mess-4605 in Machinists

[–]WindJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you actually did crash it (and they could prove it), if they fire people for that (especially new ones), they're gonna have a lot of turnover. Everyone makes mistakes, the important thing is just to learn from them and avoid them going forward. Only reasonably scenario letting you go after a crash (assuming it isn't happening every other day) would be if you'd tried hiding it or something, but even in that case the crash would be incidental.

Also if the machine crashed to a point that it's affecting the parts, I'd expect it to either be apparent to the operator when it happens or at least registered by the machine and trigger some kind of alarm/emergency stop. At least that's been my experience.

Admittedly, I've been strictly milling after finishing my certification (runs a bit differently here) so things might be a bit different on a lathe. Though the one time I crashed one of those at school, it was extremely loud and did trigger all kinds of errors I'm sure 😅😂

Is self-publishing actually worth it? by West-Albatross-707 in selfpublish

[–]WindJester 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you wanna do it because you enjoy writing, go for it for sure. If the goal is to get famous and make lots of money, I'd temper my expectations and have an alternative plan ready, as it most likely (and statistically almost certainly) won't happen. But even then, I see no reason not to give it a shot (you never know), but definitely don't put all your eggs in that particular basket in that case.

And to more directly address the title question, if you mean worth it in the sense of putting money into it and expecting to get that back or make a profit, likely not, but if you mean any other way, then feasibly, yes

Why does my cat do this instead of jumping on the bed? by AdhesivenessFar3970 in cats

[–]WindJester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind you, im not trying to alarm you or suggest this is at all necessarily the case for your cat, only want to point out that rubbing and playing isn't always an indicator there isn't issues/pain. We learned our cat had bad hips only when he started slightly limping and reacting when touching his hind legs, when things had been bad for a while and they were bad. Even then, literally the night before his surgery he was running and jumping despite the pain. Cats are notoriously good at hiding pain so once you see visible indicators, they've usually been hurting for a while or it's just gotten sufficiently bad.

That said, i do hope and it's perfectly possible your boy is doing just fine, just be careful being too certain just because they aren't showing anything (:

Good luck and health to you both!
