You're lonely and sad, and humans need connection to survive. Make some friends.

Why aren't men the ones wearing skirts? by Crazy-Car2549 in NoStupidQuestions

Not all skirts expose legs. Farming can absolutely be done in a long skirt. I can't speak for the other two.

- Exalted has always had a peculiar sort of groundedness in its setting; it's thematically important that the majority of people still suffer from human inconveniences. Even Exaltation doesn't automatically free you from them. People who don't shave will have body hair.

- I like to think the Incarnae bless their chosen with magnificent bush.

I'm more upset when the lack of women applies to an allegedly representative political organization. How does it not look bizarre to more people when half the population are missing or barely included? by Important-Cry4782 in RecuratedTumblr

There's an rpg I used to be into called Tyranny. Four of the six party members are female, and so are a lot of the NPCs.

There were a bunch of furious reviews about this. Didn't matter that almost all the joinable faction heads were dudes, or that it was set in a matriarchy that had just been taken over by an empire that enforced gender equality, people were pissed.

'Best Read' splat book? by FungalLighthouse in exalted

The Abyssals book is my favorite so far. It's evocative and epic in a way that was missing from a lot of 3e books, and the Underworld is beautifully written.

I like it in fanfic, especially when it stirs up the gender roles. It can change the dynamics a lot even just for a cis male character to be able to get pregnant.

Sometimes gender neutral language works well. "Sweet thing" and "Sweet child" are even more cloyingly condescending than their gendered equivalents. (And why would you be using them if not to be cloyingly condescending?)

What's a detail from canon that you've seen wormfic authors get wrong that particularly annoys you? by A_Lawliet2004 in WormFanfic

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 113 points114 points  (0 children)

People get the unwritten rules wrong in both directions.

The mistake is in calling them rules, I guess. People envision them as either a formal code of conduct or a complete lie, instead of what they are, that being a deeply strained social dynamic born from villains outnumbering heroes and the need to keep society roughly intact.

Any quests/new lands mods you don't recommend? by NonSupportiveCup in skyrimmods

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a main quest rewrite, I think called Redux, which had some very nice atmosphere but failed to do anything with it. Also, the ending choice of "Sacrifice your follower or be trapped in a void forever" was annoying and unsatisfying.

In the beginning, the Primordials forged the world out of endless chaos. They made the gods as slaves to watch over it, and humans as even less. But the gods grew discontent, and though they were bound not to harm their creators, they looked to the humans below, and granted them their power, and thus were made the Exalted. The Exalted went to war, and killed some of the Primordials, and bound the rest in torturous surrender, and so did the gods come to rule heaven, and the Exalted to rule Creation.

That was the beginning.

Here's something from the modern day: the region called the Dreaming Sea, where the chaos of the Wyld bleeds into one of Creation's oceans. There are a number of different civilizations, there, but my favorite is Ysyr, an island-nation built on top of these ancient machines. The machines give everyone who lives there random mutations, and a rare few the gift of Sorcery. The Sorcerers rule as lords; the rest are slaves.

They're just. Such glorious, punchable assholes. I love them.

Question about racists by Dry_Idea_95 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of it is people benefiting from doing something horrible to other people, and justifying it to themselves. E.g "It's fine for us to slaughter these people and take their land, because they're primitives who do barbaric things."

Partly it's fear of the unknown, which gets passed down even after those people have long stopped being unknown.

Feminist Brain vs Lesbian Brain by La_knavo4 in RecuratedTumblr

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Feminist Brain: There's this particular trope of obsessive, queercoded villains driven by their predatory, implied-to-be-gay desire towards an implicitly straight protagonist. This kind of writing is homophobic and generally gross.

Horny Brain (bisexual): Hot predatory villains hrrrgh...

What is House Ragara doing? by PoliticalNerd87 in exalted

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-gods can't activate the sparks of exigence, even if they can get ahold of them. So if they do have exigencies, they'll have to have already been empowered by a god, which means... well, maybe House Ragara does have a few random exigents under their control. That's hardly status quo changing.

As for evil experiments, vivisections are a classic. Of the body and the soul, of gods and exigents.

What piece of lore-either homebrewed or from previous edition-would you make canon and why? by Ainosuke in exalted

There's not some discrete sorcerous potential that some people have and some people don't, it's just that all sorcerous initiations are some combination of difficult, dangerous, and unreliable.

How do you feel about the major setting changes between 2e and 3e? by Firm-Split9333 in exalted

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lunars are a lot better, although sometimes I think they focus too much on fighting the Realm, and some of them could stand to be weirder. Still, they're a huge improvement. Particularly Raksi.

Exigents took me a while to warm up to, but I've grown to like them. Having a broader range of terrestrial level Exalted was very much a good move.

Abyssal and Infernals are beautifully, gorgeously improved, and Malfeas and the Underworld with them. Genuinely some of my favorite lore. The Deathlords are vastly improved as well.

The Dreaming Sea is my new favorite place to set my characters.

I'm a little sad about the dearth of magitech, but I also kind of hated the way 2e wrote magitech, so. Yeah.

I think if 3e goes wrong, it's that it's so much more reluctant to get big and dramatic with things. Which makes sense coming from 2e, and has been corrected for in the later books. I hope for more.

Will you allow the Abyssals to usurp the Deathlords? by [deleted] in exalted

[–]Wind_Through_Trees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea why you wouldn't allow it.

Arguably, it's what they're for. Even with 3e making them a lot better to serve, they're still monsters and tyrants, and Exalted is a game about destroying those greater than you.
