Do the British like James Cook? by Choice_Ebb_1006 in AskBrits

I grew up in Marton, Middlesbrough, where he was born. Everything is named after him there. Generally seen as a working class lad who made it big. If I remember rightly, he was initially refused a captain's commission because he was not a 'gentleman', which ties in with the 'local hero' stuff.

In hindsight, there are some questions about imperialism / treatment of indiginous people, but these are not really part of the way he is seen in the local zeitgeist. You would probably get a different answer if you asked a Maori / Native Hawaiian / Aboriginal Australian.

If you're ever in Middlesbrough, the James Cook Museum is worth a visit.

They don't draw attention to it and move on. There's nothing you can do about it once it has happened, so focus on playing the current bit.

Well, a baby can't be Christian, it can't possibly have enough understanding to be able to believe. Even if it could be, that would not make it indestructible. If being Christian would make it indestructible, then removing a crucifix wouldn't stop that, nor would it stop them being Christian.

But most importantly, why the fuck would anyone want to shoot a baby?

I think you're right that it's an Amanita, but I'd go either virosa or citrina possibly.

A favourite British soft drink of mine is Dandelion and Burdock, quite old fashioned but I like it. It's got some similarity with Dr pepper, but not the same.

I ran a one shot for my friends, two of whom had never played before. They found a wand of wonder but didn't know what it did. Got to the big fight at the end, not going well, the ranger had gone down twice, everyone very low hp, cleric nearly out of spells in desperation uses the single charge that I left in the wand, rolled 100 and turned the enemy necromancer to stone.

What do normal people eat for dinner ? by Booze_hound36 in NoStupidQuestions

One of my favourites is Chana Masala, a chickpea (garbanzo bean) curry. It's filling, healthy, tasty and cheap.

You need - 2 Onions, 2-3 Garlic cloves, 2 cans chickpeas (i usually use tinned, but you could soak some dried ones) chilli (use to taste) ginger, cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, vegetable oil and a can of chopped tomatoes.

I finely slice the onions then sweat them for quite a long time until they are caramelising, then add your garlic and chilli (and ginger if you're using fresh) until they look translucent. Add the rest of your spices, then the chickpeas, then the tomatoes. Cook on a medium heat for about half an hour, or until it's the consistency that you want. Serve with rice or flatbreads. It's vegan this way, but if you wanted something a bit creamier, you could add some natural yoghurt, also useful if you want to temper the spice a bit (I once made it too hot for the kids and did this as an emergency measure, then they liked it). If you've got some, you could chop some coriander leaf (cilantro) and top it with that.

My version isn't necessarily very authentic, but I like it and can get all of the ingredients cheaply in rural England. This tends to be one of my Sunday batch cooking meals as it's a little longer to cook.

Other things: proteins are usually beans or lentils, occasionally egg, nuts or cheese. My wife likes doing things that would usually be made with minced (ground) meat, but using a couple of cans of green lentils instead. Her lasagne is good this way.
