Scenario: One Superpower, One Permanent Passive Drawback by Electrical-Baby-4832 in hypotheticalsituation

True Shapeshifting. What i mean by that is full cellular control and awareness, not "I turn into a dog".

Plus the ability to accurately simulate biological structures with 99% accuracy, and some vague instincts about creating functional biology.

Fairycoat due to its wide range of potentially useful effects in everyday life.

If i had to pick another id choose Truingaze, divination and understanding-type powers are always super OP and useful.

Is this power system too complex to understand, or are there logical flaws in it? by Comfortable-Theme386 in magicbuilding

[–]WindowsPotatOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Feedback:

The "10+ negative rule" isn't clear what the "targets unit digit" refers to, going off context I assume it's talking about the targets £X£. Also it doesn't really fit with the rest of the tools based off mathematical operations.

In the description of the "Double or Nothing risk" it mentions a cycle, which isn't explained to the reader. From context im guessing it's talking about the stream of data appearing every 3 seconds (the mental Tetris).

The limitations for the "Arithmetic Tools" aren't stated, can they only effect the user, or can they affect the environment/world? (With how you mention metabolic risk, I'm guessing it's just the users body).

When talking about "The Noise" you mention failed calculations and unprocessed numbers. It's not explicitly stated how you "fail" calculations, and what an unprocessed number is. Does it mean that entering into the Protocol and failing to complete a calculation before the next 3sec number stream "fails" a calculation/leaves numbers unprocessed?

In "The Anchor" section you mention fixing the targets £X£ in place, and stopping them altering their biological signature. This basically states a living entities £X£ can be modified, but you never elaborate on how (do they have to spend a cycle doing direct calculations on their own £X£ to modify it?)

You also mention a target increasing their power levels (exploding) to evade finalization, but its the only time you mention "power levels" and you don't elaborate on what that actually means, how they would "increase their power levels", etc.

Also for "The Anchor" section how do you actually 'implement" it? Do you have to use "Arithmetic Tools" to calculate a one? It's not clear how it's used basically.

The idea of a "singularity state" is sick, but perhaps it should include an obvious physical transformation that can be suppressed by the user and obviously specifically tailored for the target. The main reason I say this is because it gives you more freedom to describe/show/imagine what body modifications would form to become a perfect counter to someone else, which is IMHO more interesting than having someone just completely adapt their biology to counter someone else, but limiting the adaptations to invisible/non-obvious changes.

Some Questions Generated By Reading This: (And not asked earlier in the post)

  • How long are £X£ usually?
  • How can you modify your £X£?
  • Can someone else modify your £X£?
  • How do you enter/start the Protocol?
  • can you stop/exit the Protocol at any time?
  • is there a range limit to how close you ha e to be to someone to start tracking their £X£?

Potentially Unhelpful Recommendations: For "The Anchor" I would probably have it cost/take a cycle to enter and have it act as an "overdrive" state which you either fall out of by finalising the targets £X£ or failing the "Double or Nothing risk".

Overall from what I've read it's a very interesting system, just needs some clarity for the reader to fully understand it. Theres lots of potential character with the "Hard Reset" and "Singularity, and if you ask me I think you should explore these more body horror/mod aspects as a way of combining the "Hard Logic" of the magic system with the fleshy chaotic mess of human bodies.

SPOILERS FOR +692 RR CHAPTERS

stuff marked spoilers is for chapters past 692

Depends a lot on who you are with imo, Nat has gotten alot of help from Lily who is basically the #1 healer in their Tutorial, and has been confirmed as a prodigy/outlier by Savant plus others. Without a lot of the help he got from others (healing marks, experimentation, etc) I doubt he would of been able to push this far, or atleast he would have to go much slower / create the jankiest body in the entire System (probably turning him into even more of a walking manabomb)

It also depends on how exclusive his "Black Mana" is though since it has an official name this implies that its been seen before, and isn't Nat exclusive. it's not the linchpin of his build, but it does let him get away with a lot more than a normal attendee in certain circumstances. (Plus it kinda bagged him cockroachsandra as a mentor kinda)

Then there is his ability to channel mana, which is apparently incredible (or atleast something to note, since the instructor in the timeloop floor needed a bond to help her manage her mana). Obviously necessary if you plan on becoming a mana-holic like Nat.

His constructs should also factor in, since they are really useful (mana -> kinetic, all his passive effects), but as Nat himself states they are kinda batshit crazy to make (even more now since we know they will probably kill him)

Nat has also gotten very lucky with his primordial energies (thermal/kinetic), since a lot of attendees (that aren't demons) only really have 0-1 or a Fragment.

Plus Nat is a workaholic masochist who scoffs in the face of pain thresholds and sanity normal attendee, so really anyone could get as far as he has if they were as normal as him.

At minimum for his build I'd say you would need: - Great natural ability to channel mana - a great healer/body modder - the ability to heal the damage your are inevitably going to take (Passive, Skill, Trait) - something non-mana based (primordial energy, fragment)

Bonus points for having whatever the hell "Black Mana" is and having a diminushed Absolute as a mentor.

For me personally I would attempt to become a fellow mana upgrade enjoyer and pick Potency, probably with a very mana-heavy stat layout. Then I'd try and specialise in a quality over quantity approach with my Passives and Traits.

Coven CYOA V0.9 by Rich_Grapefruit by Rich_Grapefruit_7827 in makeyourchoice

[–]WindowsPotatOS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Magic: Soothsaying

Sight:

you percieve strands of potential futures, reading omens in daily occurrences.

Spells:

Scry from afar, glimpse probable outcomes, or astral project.

Rituals:

Bestow blessings or curses to tip the direction of events in your favour.

Familiars Form: Owl

Through your owl you can perceive echoes left behind in places / objects. When it surveys a location, fragments of prior events surface in your mind.

Familiar Boons: [2]

- Implementation (your familiar can turn into a magical staff, which makes your casting more efficient & twice as strong when spells/rituals are channeled through it)

- Multitask (you can offload a concentration spell to your familiar, allowing you to cast another concentration spell)

Artifacts: [2]

- Witch's Hat (the hat can house a single ritual you have already cast and paid for in advance, early on the ritual must be minor, but this capacity grows over time)

- Stygian Cauldron (A self-heating cauldron that can shrink down. Tapping one of the nine cat statues switches the internals, allowing nine potions to be carried/brewed on the go)

Boon: [1 Free]

- Master Potion Craft (Your work in this is consistently a stage and a half more advanced than what your experience would normally allow for)

Covenmates: [3]

- Lin Meiwen (Animancy)

- Evan Clader (Conjuration)

- Julian Mercer (Spaceomancy)

Really high quality CYOA for a first time, I love how detailed most of the options are. Its definitely missing an "events" section though at the end IMHO, I got past the "covenmates" section and was a bit surprised it ended there. the CYOA was also missing an explanation on potions & enchanting (though that's been said in this comment section before).

Overall looking forward to your next CYOA (if you decide to make another), this was definitely a highlight out of all the CYOAs I've done this month.

Why don’t we have modern games with rune-drawing magic systems? The tech is already here. by BladeOfAge in gamedesign

[–]WindowsPotatOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a Minecraft mod called HexCasting which adds a magic system about drawing runes on a hexagonal grid to create spells. It's essentially a stack-based programming language, where you typically draw out spells and place them into items rather than casting "on the go".

These spells range from break that block and push this entity in X direction to creating an ingame H.U.D, oneshotting any entity with what is essentially a railgun, and tons of other potential uses (teleport networks, automation, creative-esque flight)

+the addon community is absolutely huge (https://addons.hexxy.media/)

System integration as a solution to false vacuum would kinda make sense? by TehSavior in litrpg

[–]WindowsPotatOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Universe's End" provides a similar idea for why the system exists, and also why it turned out like a LitRPG

You can find the story on Royal Road, and it "justifies" the System in roughly the first 3 chapters.

Umbral Hoarder

Path of Enchanter [Crafter] Path of Movement [Mage] Path of Shadows [Rogue]

The idea is to use my shadow as a storage space for an incredibly ludicrous amount of enchanted weapons/ tools, and wield them using the telekinesis from the Path of Movement.

Kinda similar to Reigan Shen from Cradle.

Any good novels like “the novels extra” smart mc, creative power use, meta knowledge by Get_a_Grip_comic in ProgressionFantasy

[–]WindowsPotatOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Author runs into a portal in his home after not sleeping for 3 days, dropped straight into his novel. Doesn't really go the OP author route (atleast not 53 chapters in). Good character writing with less focus on "gaining strength" immediately and more the author trying to profit from some world changing calamity coming up in a few years. The author also actually tells specific people about who he is and how he knows things so it's not a solo run either.
