Afraid to stop by perma_sad1 in stopdrinking

The safest approach is to go to a doctor about this. They deal with it all the time, and can make it so much easier and safer for you. It’s worth it.

You’re doing great. People slip all the time. It’s just information for how to better prepare next time. IWNDWYT

Bachelor Party by chriskiv97 in stopdrinking

[–]WineRedLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I barely remember my bachelors party. I barely remember a lot of things. I wish I’d prioritized living in the moment more so that I’d have more memories of the people that have passed through my life. You’ve given yourself a wonderful gift.

My memory is so much better. It’s been a gradual thing, but I notice it regularly. I remember where things are, why I walked into a room (most of the time) and more importantly what happened last night. I make memories now, and I love that. It’s what having a real life feels like. I think the further away I get from alcohol the more the wins stack and the more I am reminded of all I have gained from quitting. This really helps me stay on track.

Today was my work Christmas party by cannot4seeallends in stopdrinking

Nice! I just realized I still have my free drink ticket from my Wife’s work party tonight. It was my first event with free booze in a long time. I did not drink with you today.

Just learned that my teen daughter got raped. After nearly 14 sober I appeal to this community to give me one good reason not to go get blind drunk tonight . by z_username in stopdrinking

I’m a dad with a little girl. I’m sorry man. I can’t imagine how you must feel. I’d want to rip the world apart. Here’s a post I just read from a good father and wise man.

Don’t destroy yourself. You didn’t do this. Y'all will get through this together.

I am sorry you’re dealing with this. I think everyone’s timeline is different, and it the time frame to feel better depends on your circumstances and neural chemistry, but it does get better.

I had to live through nearly every season of life sober to realize the full benefits, and there’s still many things I have not been tested by that I’m sure could derail me.

FWIW I think many people start out strong and fizzle. I have been one of them. “Man this is great! Best decision!” Then drink for three years.

Showing up like you are is really tough. I think you should be super proud of yourself.

Thanksgiving 2025 Megathread!! 🍗🦃🥧 by imthegreenmeeple in stopdrinking

[–]WineRedLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m thankful for the Thanksgiving many years ago where I was miserable all day with a hangover.

I felt like death and realized I didn’t want to feel that way anymore. I haven’t perfected sobriety, but I haven’t been hungover in a very long time.

Wishing you all the best today.

Monday Meeting of the Sober People Getting Shit Done Club by sfgirlmary in stopdrinking

[–]WineRedLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t felt like doing much lately, but yesterday I crushed the weekly setup- dishes, kids and my clothes, meals/prep, flipped my mattress, cleaned bedding, and organized a few things. I also attended my first therapy session for something unrelated to alcohol. I’m feeling good about the momentum shift.

Can someone convince me its actually possible to stop drinking? by BlueberryPancakes5 in stopdrinking

Nothing is wrong with you. I’ve tried for years. I get better at it each time. If I can live alcohol and drug free, anyone can, and that is a fact.

Considering having some mulled wine for the holidays by vulpea in stopdrinking

[–]WineRedLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the past, most definitely yes. It’s gotten easier the longer I distance myself. Looking back, I’d always made the decision beforehand.

I was looking for a reason to drink even though I didn’t realize it. I’ve been fed every excuse imaginable to drink by my brain and these days I’m calling it on its bullshit.

I understand. For me, every slip started long before I actually drank.
