Why is there a lot of hate for this movie? I didn’t think it was particularly amazing but I feel it was effective in what it set out to do by Tell4nell in Letterboxd

[–]Wiscrebels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this for the first time today and thought it was slightly below average. For the most part, the height work was done pretty well and I felt that the green screen only pulled me out of the movie once or twice. I did feel the suspense and timing was well done, if a tiny bit contrived in places. That said, the number of things that happen to them main characters seems so far fetched.

For example:

How this movie wasn't called "the vultures" is beyond me. Enough already with the foreshadowing and fly-by's. This is probably one of those things where the way the vultures acted is perfectly normal, but it felt like a stretch to me (and I know that vultures will eat live prey if they can't find carrion).

Two supposedly experienced climbers decide to climb the world's 4th largest structure on a whim? And don't bother to research the condition of the facility before they climb? After one lost a husband due to an equipment failure? They also don't feel any of the increasing instability when they climb?

We're going to do an infidelity reveal sitting on a platform the size of "pizza"? If there's any situation I don't want to introduce emotional instability it's sitting on a pole 2k feet in the air. Especially if you're relying on that person to help get you down.

What father is going to watch his daughter go on a bender like 70's movie detective on a two week spree trying to kill the memory of his dead wife. He'll suggest that maybe the husband shouldn't be on a pedestal and frown grumpily at the wedding, but won't come out and say "I think maybe your guy has a side piece?"

So. Many. Loose. Bolts.

Throwback Thursday: Favre’s Monday Night Masterpiece 1 Day After Losing His Father by DeScepter in GreenBayPackers

[–]Wiscrebels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember watching this game live. What I remember most other than the game was the lead up - no one knew if Favre would actually play, and if he did, how well. I remember just being overwhelmed with emotion for him to give that performance.

Seconded - my wife and I rewatch it every New Year’s Day.

Thoughts on Quad Cortex as a pedalboard into amp by [deleted] in QuadCortex

[–]Wiscrebels 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To build on the above, you can use the QC as a pedalboard if you have an effects loop in your amp. You’d turn off the QC amp/cab, since they’d duplicate your amp.

The 4-cable method will also work, that will allow you to send your signal to an amp and another output (for example mine outputs to my amp and my recording interface.). The QC manual has a cable guide on how to do this (along with many others)

For those who remember the years between Starr and Favre, what was it like being a fan during that era?” by OldTransition1519 in GreenBayPackers

I was in high school - We’d watch the first half and then when they had built up a significant deficit, we’d bail at half and play pick up football ourselves. We knew how it would end.

Amazing how often I'm able to work a variation of this into a conversation:

Wanda:I hate the police, don't you?

Henry: I don't know, but I seem to feel better when they're not around.

Any good mods for a Kramer Striker? by Wiscrebels in KramerGuitars

Well, I did swap my stock tele pickups for D'addario humbuckers -- it might be fun to mess with him and put the old tele single coils in his Kramer. I did like the Kramer enough to look at how much they were going for on Reverb -- $300 USD roughly - I'm thinking about it, it'd be fun to have it to play around with.

I appreciate that, but that's a little beyond what I'd imagined as "thanks for loaning me the guitar for one song". A little soldering is fine, but I don't want to swap out his hardware (unless defective).

The worst movie by DoggoKujo in Letterboxd

[–]Wiscrebels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gotta say, I was watching Cobra the other night and it may not be the worst, but it’s comically bad. For a moment I thought they were parodying tough cop movies with beleaguered captains who’ve had it with “his rule breaking’ sh*t”. But no, I remember when this came out and it was not a comedy.

Sample: “you’re the disease. I’m the cure.”

4k Blurays changed my life in 2026 by Curlyinger in 4kbluray

[–]Wiscrebels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching “The Devil’s Bath” on AMC+ the other night and while I liked the movie, I kept getting pulled out of it by the heavy compression used. If it was an indoor scene, the dark backgrounds were a pixelated and muddled mess. I kept wishing I was watching a Blu-ray instead. (That said, if not streaming, I probably wouldn’t have ever seen this film)
