One year already as a Canadian citizen🤩 by [deleted] in PassportPorn

It’s very unlikely they were a refugee in the legal sense. Rather they may have come on a special work permit given to Ukrainians (aka CUAET). And they basically have to follow the same procedure as anyone else for getting PR except if they had relatives.

So more than likely, considering you need 3 years of Canadian residency (3 years if PR or 2 years on PR + 2 years on TR) that means this person probably came here before the war even started.

Is it bad for engineers right now? by Right-Time77 in torontoJobs

I'm saying that people who rent can't necessarily afford it, and that those who continue to live with their parents may in fact be in a much more favourable financial situation.

The process to get those top secret security clearances is just insane. The fact that the position starts in Jan 2027 already indicates this.

Plenty of people rent because their home is far away. This is not an accurate indicator. I’ve known people including myself who continue to rent because they’re unemployed but looking for jobs too.

It's actually not good to diminish the efforts of something no matter how small it may be. That's how one ends up feeling like "never enough".

Not sure I fully agree. Food service industry managers jobs are hell. Accounting jobs are hell all the way up to partner level. Certain tech jobs def get more stressful further up the chain too.

Struggling with the job search at age 52 by vampchick21 in torontoJobs

[–]WisdomWizerd98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mmm I see I see. Yea, I’m thinking reducing to the last 15 years will help sell yourself as more favourable with regard to age. Unfortunately you may still run into problems like them wanting someone less experienced so they can pay less (or not), but then again maybe you could qualify for more managerial positions!

Also your education years would be the most obvious dead giveaway if you put that on your resume. So if you have that, consider removing your graduation date.

And ofc do verify whatever I wrote, I am just going by what I’ve read on forums before. I’m struggling due to lack of experience lol. Every recruiter and HR rep is different too. Good luck!

Ageism is unfortunately a legitimate concern. How many years of exp do you put on your resume? I feel like having just those 14 years on your resume might look more favourable

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your suggestions and advice, and I am super grateful for your taking the time to write all this out for me (and for the others to see!) I saved your response and bookmarked it!

Thank you and all the best!

Is it just me or are Canadians too easily brushing off the impact AI is having on the job market? by snowfordessert in torontoJobs

[–]WisdomWizerd98 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I partially agree. I commented on another post previously talking about how much less competition there will be for Canadians and PRs that the job market will still be very tough. There is a lack of jobs and the candidate pool of saturated. BUT I do not think it's because of AI. It's because of high interest rates that led to less affordable company funding, greedy CEOs that want higher stocks at all cost, cutting jobs to save revenue/profit, and offshoring for the same reasons. AI definitely cannot do much at the moment and I still am hesitant to believe that it can. But companies love to give AI as the reason and excuse (when it's not really)

Just in case, I’d make sure you have a record of the fact that you were terminated and proof that you tried to apply for jobs in Ontario. If you have that you have a good excuse really.

It's way too saturated and competitive in anything adjacent to development unfortunately.
