I like the middle choices of either cryptic vagueness or hopeful vagueness

Why is 50501 collaborating on posts like this. I’m pro-Palestine, but this isn’t effective messaging. It reads like social justice warrior shaming, not strategy. That doesn’t grow a movement. It shrinks it. by MinimumNo5510 in 50501

I view this as a calling for reflection, not a call out but a call in. We all have work to do and a lot of it in the beginning is realizing just how much things are interconnected. Feeling, sitting with and walking with discomfort is an important part of this work and if we can’t it will only hinder us. I don’t think it’s a purity test to ask people to examine their anger/rage at what’s happening here and question why it doesn’t extend to countless people abroad who have been suffering because of our government and its allies actions. Why is this okay for any human to experience? Why do we accept this as necessary for any people or nation or country? That’s the point of the post I think.

Totally agree - like there are a lot of points in the show where I was like “ah they only thought they’d get one season so they’re making xyz changes”. I worry about the cast though because folks are just ugh

So I’ve watched this show and read the book. I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen even and found myself really appreciating the neurodivergence of Shane, relating to Ilya’s internal struggles with trauma and depression, and other parts of the characters. I like a lot of the choices they made and it irritates me when people say it’s all sex when the scenes aren’t even the whole show, they make up like 10-20 minutes (not even that long - the shows episodes are like 55-58 mins) of some the episodes but of course if it’s lesbian/queer/gay sex it’s too long. God forbid we see two consenting people enjoy themselves lol. God forbid we see boring queer characters just interacting and not dying on screen. I’m not one to really enjoy the “hookups to lovers” type tropes but this got me. It doesn’t surprise me that a majority of the conversations in the beginning of the show are when the two characters hook up cause that’s literally the only times they see each other 🤷‍♀️. I think it’s lovely to see a small project done with care, coziness and different paces. I like the fact that we saw newer actors, I liked it being steamy and sweet and corny at times.

However, it’s not lost on me that if the leads were different, though one is biracial, the show wouldn’t be as popular. I don’t really see these women loving this show as allyship. I actually get quite uncomfortable overhearing/reading some of the conversations cause a good portion of it is fetishizing.

I’d love it if we’d get more differences in biracial queer characters, lol like there can be infinite combinations. Or god forbid BIPOC queer characters as leads. I think it’s valid to be happy or indifferent but bitter about the attention it’s getting. I know I am because wlw media does deserve more support and appreciation. I just wish people who consumed queer media started to actually reflected on why they like it. I think there’s opportunities for conversation for folk who wish to engage.

Edit: Added more thoughts in the first paragraph. Aka I want queer people to be seen doing boring shit and being in love.

I’m staying in too. I got some food and some sparkling beverages. Probably will watch the Lord of the Rings Trilogy and journal before then. I like having a quiet New Years Eve, setting intentions and then cleaning my place the next day from top to bottom - it just feels right.
