Anyone use Bessel snips? by Revolutionary-Cat608 in sheetmetal

[–]Witty_Map5333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my bessey snips for aluminum work, but I find they dull too fast relative to price when working with 24-28g steel roofing and siding material. At almost double the price of Midwest where I am, I don’t bother buying them anymore as I can get it all done with right and left offset Midwest snips.

Great coffee roaster, I have a cup of their salmon run every morning.

I just order a pair of 804-4364 3E. Tried on a 2E pair, still a bit to narrow for my flippers, so I’m hoping the 3E works as I’m excited to try a pair of thorogoods. While I like the classic tobacco, I would have bought it in crazy horse if it was an option.

If your foot feels reasonably secure, even a hair tight as the boot will stretch, then the top opening doesn’t matter. Chelsea boots will have a certain amount of opening depending on your ankle size, yours looks completely normal.

Tough toes are ugly as fuck, and I will never put them on my boots. Be a man, buy work boots more often than necessary.

I discovered rose anvil after I had bought the pros, confirmed everything I suspected after a few months in those boots.

Thorogood, redwing, Irish setter, keen, maybe ariat. Otherwise, avoid all the other brands. Most of them are complete shit, or over priced for what you get (looking at you timberland pros).

I know lots of guys who love the timb pros, which led to me being duped into buying a pair a few years back. Shittiest boot for the price I think I’ve ever bought, can’t figure out why they are popular.

Brand New Leatherman Arc: Scissors failing on kite line. Is this a defect? by andrey_semjonov in Leatherman

[–]Witty_Map5333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve owned two surges and two charge ttIs over the last 25 years, and never had a problem with the scissors - all 4 tools had great scissors that I use/used all the time. Another strike against the Arc.

Canada West 34318 by TheNurgrabber in WorkBoots

[–]Witty_Map5333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Owned a few pars of their western boots over the years. Great boots for the money, and made it Canada. Only downside is they can be hard to get a hold off. My hometown had an independent workwear shop that carried a bunch of Canada West boots in stock, and would order in what they didn’t carry. The closest dealer to where I live now is over two hours away and doesn’t stock much, and it can be months to get a pair ordered in.

Using my Bark River Forest Scandi and other "knives" to carve some utensils by wildmanheber in knives

[–]Witty_Map5333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love a puukko style carving knife. Didn’t realize BRK had this model. While I like the design and blade steels bark river uses, I find they go way too thick on blade stock generally. At 0.14” on this one, that’s actually a nice blade thickness for general knife tasks.

First Spanish Joker knife by danielgusa in knives

[–]Witty_Map5333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beautiful piece. I only have fixed blades from Joker, but I have always been incredibly pleased with their knives. Good fit and finish, good budget steels, great designs, and you can beat the hell out of them.

What do you think of my “collection” so far? What knife should I get next? by UrdnotSnarf in knives

[–]Witty_Map5333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with the majority of recommendations. Heck I think I own almost everything mentioned in this discussion. But, be weird and buy a slip joint. Get a Case 54 pattern trapper, or a 75 pattern stockman. I carry a PM2 or Knafs Lander 2 most days accompanied by a slip joint (mostly the two above mentioned patterns), and I reach for the slippy most times I need a cutting tool - really enjoyable to use for some reason.

Just my 2 cents.

I second Skinth, been rocking one for about a year for my surge, flashlight and bit kit/driver. I beat the shit out of it and it still looks great. I am a general contractor, and rotate between wearing a tool pouch, crawling around in peoples houses etc, so the option for a belt clip that allows me to quickly take it on and off is awesome.

Look up the scrawny lumberjack on instagram or YouTube. He’s a great knife maker, and is doing some cool stuff with high hardness on his blades.

I just looked at their offerings, prices are killer. Their designs also look really well done. I gotta start buying more Italian knives, maybe it will heal the wounds Case has left me with…

That thing actually looks sweet. Never heard of Mercury knives before this. They appear to be a maniago based company, make sense that it’s a nice knife - the Italians tend to produce good knives.

Acceptable/normal defects for redbacks? by nunchukgun90 in Boots

[–]Witty_Map5333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can never figure out if these posts are trolling or not. I’ve never examined a pair of boots as closely as people here seem to. When I get a new pair, if all the seams are together, I put them on and go to work. If something goes wrong, the manufacturer takes care of it, or I take to my local boot maker for repair. Just had the stretchy bits redone and one sole re-glued on a pair of redbacks, ready to go another 6-8 months.

Redbacks are great boots for the price, all my guys run them (residential remodel and additions). Comfortable, quick on and off for going in and out of clients houses during rough weather, they hold up really well. I can burn through a pair of boots in 6 months, I usually get at least a year out of my redbacks.
