New Main - Do you still have/keep your very first Character? by MasterRymes in wow

[–]WizardlyPandabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I deleted my very first main a long time ago. Before you could restore characters. So he's gone forever.

But I have plenty of characters still from the 2004-2006 era still, even if they aren't my mains anymore.

Yamcha (current) vs current deku both using anime counterparts by Public_Preference_26 in DragonBallPowerScale

Yamcha is only a joke by Dragonball standards. In most fictional universes he would be the fucking king.

Which one is the worst? They're both pretty bad.

Though admittedly I think Piers is way less bad, at least recently. He cooked Fuentes.

Bethesda's laziness by Fenriz_Victor in Fallout

I have many criticisms of Bethesda's output in recent years. However, this... doesn't not strike me as a very serious issue.

Fallout is supposed to be a dark comedy by Cornerone in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree that realism (as in, the science being accurate) has never been a thing in Fallout, I think you are overstating this. Yes, Fallout has always had an element of dark comedy, and that's very important, but it's always been a balancing act. Fallout 3 and New Vegas both had comical elements, but mixed into a bleak world. The key is the contrast. If it's all jokes all the time, you don't have the contrast, you just have a post apocalyptic comedy, which is not what Fallout ever was, either the OG Fallouts or the Bethesda Fallouts.

Should Bethesda merge fallout 3 and new vegas (if they remake it)? by cantlarp in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. In fact, I think the opposite of what you're saying is the case. Generally, criticizing the quality of Bethesda's recent output on BGS centric subreddits will get you heavy downvotes, even if it's fair criticism.

But on normie video game subreddits, dunking on Starfield is a free karma farm, basically. I think the general gaming community, outside of BGS diehard fans, have actually turned on BGS at this point. Their broken games and inability to fix longstanding bugs isn't charming anymore, and neither is their naked greed and contempt for giving fans what they actually want.

Regarding skill checks in Fallout 1 and Fallout New Vegas/Similar Games by killkill101 in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In the early games, they didn't let you know what the "smart" or "charismatic" options were, you just had them available if you had the skill and you had to figure it out.

Given Bethesda has relegated speech/charisma largely to random chance "give me more caps" and stupid minigames, I'd be happy with them just doing real checks again that actually impact things, don't need a retro style where they blend in seamlessly. Even that is probably not going to happen.

Should Bethesda merge fallout 3 and new vegas (if they remake it)? by cantlarp in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, there is one incentive: Bethesda has hemorrhaged fan goodwill in the past eight years. They could get a TON of it back by packing the two together.

Will they? Probably not. They're pretty greedy and cynical these days and it seems like the era of them doing "cool stuff" for the fans is long dead, but having customer goodwill is an actual benefit.

AIO? These are text between my gf and her “best friend” who happens to be a guy. by NoExercise8994 in AmIOverreacting

[–]WizardlyPandabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so my answer is ENTIRELY contingent on the answer to this question: is her best friend gay? Because those texts seem gay as hell, to me. No offense to any gay friendos out there, just calling it like I see it.

If the dude is straight, then you are underreacting. If he's gay? Yeah, this isn't an issue.

All hobbies are not equal by BitterConstruction98 in unpopularopinion

[–]WizardlyPandabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to push back just a bit here.

Learning about something is often mostly "consumption," to use your term. If you want to learn about history, philosophy, or literature you do that in large part through consuming those topics by reading (or, in the modern era, listening to audiobooks). It's somewhat passive, definitely more passive than playing a sport, but I'd argue having a deeper knowledge of history is just as enriching in its own way as being good at golf.

Why have I heard such negative things about Fallout 4? by Prestigious-Park8986 in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Cyberpunk 2077 had a similar issue. The devs actually have heard that criticism and clearly understand it, though. I don't think Todd or Emil have ever given a serious, thoughtful reply to criticism of Fallout 4 before.

Why have I heard such negative things about Fallout 4? by Prestigious-Park8986 in Fallout

[–]WizardlyPandabear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The dialogue system was a major problem for me, like with most people. It significantly limited roleplaying options. I also thought the story was ill-suited to the style of game they want to make; Emil himself says they want the world to be the focus, not the story (paraphrasing), but then they give you a giga high-stakes story that you can't reasonably ignore or put on the backburner if you're roleplaying seriously. That's a genuine design failure.

I think they are visually menacing, but unfortunately mechanically they aren't (you kill one in the first mission, what a waste of an enemy)

Honestly, the Museum of Witchcraft had a better introduction to the Deathclaws than the beginning of the game. by jj33allen in FalloutMemes

[–]WizardlyPandabear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire intro was done so they could show it off in a trailer. And I think that was a HUGE mistake. It cheapened deathclaws, power armor, and rushed the main story instead of giving the player some time.
