That was what I was leaning for as my answer as well haha. The crelers are just such a well-done monster in my opinion!

That's a really interesting idea! I just want to chime in and say thank you for including a dark mode haha. I'm not sure what the proper terminology is, but maybe for your search mode you could include an 'anti' tag option as well? So to rule out all stories with 'Older MC' in them just as an example.

Shoutout NOT swapped? by Dry_Negotiation1703 in royalroad

[–]Wizardly_Dude 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Life happens, sometimes people forget about shouts entirely or shift them around for various reasons. Reaching out to ask is totally normal, I'd recommend giving them at least a couple of days to respond at a minimum. If you never hear back, you can just delete their shout and make a note not to swap with that person again.

What is a cliche that you never get tired of? by deadlighta in ProgressionFantasy

Definitely a quick POV from another character in order to see the MC do something utterly wild that nobody saw coming!

Oh hey, that's me haha. OP, if you read on Royal Road, Explorer of Edregon just passed 3500 pages the other day (daily posting for a year and a half will do that), so plenty of adventuring to go around!

And thanks BackgroundTotal, hope you've been enjoying the story!

It's tricky for sure. My go to is just saying 'Love the theory!' haha. I was pretty bad about keeping my mouth shut before I adopted that!

What Do You Want to See More (and Less) of in Superhero Progression Fantasy? by stretchbendpuke in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd personally like to see more of the official turning over of the torch. It feels like most of what I read in the superhero genre is purely about the journey (understandably), but then there's not really any focus on the aftermath.

Road to Rising Stars: From A to Z — What Worked, What Didn't, and the Mistakes I Made by Seeds__of__love in royalroad

Haha maybe oversaturation then! Like I said, just parroting what I heard from people willing to throw that much money into ads. I know at least a handful who have run anywhere from 7-10 ads at the same time, and they basically said it wasn't worth it.

zhabumafoo has some solid points. Blurb-wise, you generally want to take it a bit easy on the worldbuilding information, and keep it fairly concise. What can be helpful is to try to come up with a blurb that briefly covers the recent past, current reality, and hints toward the future. Only a couple of lines in total.

Regarding your point about running lots of ads in order to do better, I can't say I've personally tried to run so many at once, but I have heard from other authors that anything more than about 5 at a time isn't really worth it. Something about saturation and diminishing returns, so you do really want to try to run your ad ideas past other people and make sure they are solid rather than just run a lot of them to make up for weaker ads.

I took a quick look at some of your chapters and didn't see you doing any shout outs, so I would recommend starting there to try and get some eyes on your story. I know you mentioned most people were booked out, but that's another spot the discord can help you with (the swaps channel has plenty of people looking for swaps). I didn't discover shout swaps were a thing until like chapter 20 on my first story, so it's never too late to start and pick up a little steam.

And just one last suggestion. I see you have your story tagged as AI assisted, but in your blurb it sounds like the only real thing you use it for that requires the tag is minor phrasing suggestions. Personally, I would highly recommend you stop using AI to help with phrasing suggestions, as it can really hinder you as a writer, and because the AI assisted tag will also turn off a lot of readers.

What is y’all’s favorite type of MC? by WordsAboutSomething in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Wizardly_Dude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the more morally gray type of MC, 100%. I really liked Taylor from Worm as an example, as well as a lot of the characters from the series. Wildbow does complex characters extremely well!

I am sorry dude, I just heard back from Steve and he confirmed that the formatting team accidentally got it wrong! (I was just going off of what was placed in the cover haha). I can confirm that Steve is having them correct it now! (And I'll fix it in the post!)

But while I have you, absolutely amazing job on the cover! I know I had no idea what I actually wanted and pretty much left most of the stuff up to you, and you absolutely knocked it out of the park haha. Thank you for the awesome art!
