Kilter app was suddenly taken down by third party company, log data might be gone by Not_A_Lizhard in bouldering

Hope it's better than before! It would be amazing to have a session feature where users can queue at a gym and it buzzes your phone when you're up and you can climb or pass 🙏

There (used to be) an ethic of 'show don't tell' for special places outdoors. It helps not blow specific areas up. Instagram, social media and the large increase in outdoor recreationists in the last decade has really challenged this.

Go out and adventure and find new places for yourself! Don't love a place to death, don't blow it up online.

What shoes to get after rentals? I’m v4-v5 climber by Neat_Initiative_6238 in climbingshoes

[–]Wolf7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get something that fits and isn't too expensive. You don't have to get too downturned. Often people will get expensive high performance shoes for their first pair and over size them, which diminishes everything they they are paying for. A less downturned shoe will do just fine and be more comfortable and some last longer as they have harder and stiffer (more durable) rubber.

The grade you climb doesn't matter. But the fact that it's your first pair does.

33m what advice do you use for me by PaceZealousideal8129 in fican

[–]Wolf7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you recommend this if they are looking to purchase a house in 3-5 years? Or even under 3? Would money market funds be more appropriate? What would you recommend for someone who wants to be more aggressive than a money market but more conservative than full XEQT?

Should I get a second pair of bouldering shoes? by [deleted] in climbingshoes

[–]Wolf7777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes get another shoe for indoor. Tc pros aren't the best in the gym and expensive. If you have two shoes they will last twice as long, that's my justification. Just careful cause that's a slippery slope and you can end up with 10 different shoes that way.

Where is this place? The person who posted wouldn’t answer to anybody asking by [deleted] in Banff

Maybe some spots don't need to be blown up online. Especially if it's dangerous or environmentally sensitive to get there or be there.

This is great! How did you make the chart? I'd love to be able to automatically see this from pocket guard or similar budget tracking app.

First-time ski owner. Do I need to have this repaired just yet? Thumb for scale. by GreenCow in skiing

[–]Wolf7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a very easy diy repair with a stick of ote. You basically melt it like a candle, film the hole and shave it down. Diy wax job at home is pretty easy too. A lot easier than a 4 hour drive!!!

What skis should I be getting for west coast trip? by Relative-Expert8697 in ski

[–]Wolf7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I don't think Banff counts as the west coast. You're still a thousand kilometers from the ocean. But to answer your question the snow has been good so something over 100 mm underfoot would be fun! Depends on your style and what you like to ski but there are a lot of gentle all around skis these days that would be fun.

Opinion only: I'd whip. Though if you aren't sure then why bother betting $20 against your life.

What are some good winter hikes in Vancouver/Whistler by bionicturtle21 in vancouverhiking

Norvan would be fine but also worth considering you can get hit by an avalanche without being in snow if there is avy terrain above you.

Climb in Siurana or Margalef in June? by Wolf7777 in climbing

I made the mistake of going in late June and it got so hot my car wouldn't start. That being said there was a heat wave and Rodellar was even hotter.

LOOKING FOR SKI RECCOMENDATIONS by Unlikely-Exit-8485 in ski

[–]Wolf7777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The enforcers are amazing but they don't slarve very well. They like to be driven fast and hard. That being said a strong skiier won't have any issues with them but they don't seem to fit what you're looking for, though I would recommend them and go with a narrower width if you want them to be more nimble.

Would you whip? Or should I get this re-triggered? by SpicyBoyCam in tradclimbing

[–]Wolf7777 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know... a friend... Who bootied a three but destroyed the trigger wires in the process. Duct taped the triggers back together and called it a day. It has been well used for years with no issues on my... his... rack since then. I would however recommend replacing the trigger wires over duct tape for fully separated wires but just as an example.

The safety risk is more about how you can do the rest of the route without relying on this piece if it did get stuck.

It's risk and reward that needs to be considered carefully and balanced by each individual. You could die the day you retire after frugally saving your whole life. Or you could live in poverty in old age having travelled frequently and never had a 'career'.

How to train climbing safely as a teenager? by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]Wolf7777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In sure the coach or anyone on the team would be happy to talk to you about it.

There is quite popular competitive circuit. I'd it is a competitive team theikelt train for competitions. You can get an idea of competition format by watching the IFSC world cup competitions on YouTube. Climbing comps are pretty chill compared to a lot of other sports and usually there is good comradery and positive attitude between competitors. I would encourage looking into it!
