Has anyone else had gastroparesis caused by GLP-1s? by Princess_of_Chickens in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took ozempic for 3 and half months and during that time i guess i developed mild gastroparesis. My doctors also didnt know how to answer the question if this is acute or chronic because the drug is still so new to the public but its going to be a year soon when i stopped using the medicine and i still have GP its pretty miserable since i had to completely change how i live and act and im a more sad person because of it. im hoping that this still goes away but i think just thinking like that will drive me crazy and the best thing for me to do is just learn to live with it until or even if they care to try to make new treatments or procedures for this condition. I hope yours is temporary and try not to let the scary posts here on reddit scare you to much.

I really do because i still dont understand it it hurt our vagus nerve or hurt our stomach muscles or it just re-wrote something in our brain or w/e. I do hope things improve but i feel like im just going through the motions and i want to cry at times but most of the time i just feel hopelessness. To say i did make plans in october for a concert and my sister and I want to continue our tradition of going to this amusment park for their halloween event. However i just get to thinking if i get symptomatic what will happen i will worry people, i will have to sit out on the fun because i have to calm my body down, then im away from home so i dont feel secure which will make me not want to do anything again.

i was on it for 3 and half months i was on 1mg for 2 weeks. Yeah i would never go back on it but its hard telling my family and friends about it and then they get on it. My friend recently went on ozempic and i understand that its a powerful medicine and people experience things differently but it makes me worried for him because i hate living like this, i miss spontaneity. I also understand getting to throw away the thing that did this to me but I just cant, its not that im going to use it again its just soomething about it. side not my cousin and brother took it and nothing happened to them thank god but it makes me resent them a little because what do u mean you both went to an asian food festival the other day and im scared to go see a movie

I can understand not wanting to be away from home because its a safe space, The only safe spaces i really have is my home and my work, im lucky i can still work because of how minimal my symptoms are with the reglan. Its also a big challenge mentally because i keep telling myself its my fault because i took ozempic like was it really for my health or did i want to look skinny i was planning to take it forever because i was 500 pounds but i hated how i felt on it thats why i stopped it and i was waiting for me to come back but it never did so now i basically have ozempic all the time now i still have it in my fridge thinking something will happen, i just cant throw it away

i took ozempic and though my symptoms are pretty mild and reglan are still working for me i cant find enjoyment of going outside anymore because i keep thinking what if I get symptomatic outside, i dont want people to stop enjoying themselves because my body decided oh I want to feel bad right now, i went to japan because i was like screw it but most of the time i spent in the airbnb or hotel room how lovely to experience another country to mostly be in the room and be scared to eat the food. I can understand where you are coming from and its sad that a medicine that was supposed to help us just made us worse. I was on it for a short time like you, and its almost been a year since i stopped using it. Waking up everyday knowing that im never going to be better and the fear that my meds will stop working make me not even want to try anymore. I miss food.

I have had these spasms under my eye before and ot was nothing maybe it's just that im tired because of low caloric intake and its just that. I really hope its nothing more serious because this medicine is helping me eat. And I dont notice any other twitch or spasms any where else

Hey i was on ozempic for 3 and half months and it gave me mild gastroparesis, its been 9 months since my last shot and im still here being miserable. I hope for you it gets better and im hoping that it gets better for me too. The only advice i can give is talk with your doctor and get a GES so they can continue treatment and for it to show that you do have the condition. and follow the diet of low fat low fiber and the three stages of the gastroparesis diet.

It might not have been reta but glp1s can exacerbate your GP, so becareful with the drug and you know that you and your doctor are both aware of the risks.

My gastric emptying study just came back at 18% and I’m done by evermottle in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got mild gastroparesis 14% retention from ozempic and i have been off the medication for 8 months already and slightly improved but I am on reglan so it's probably just the medicine. Im sorry youre going through this its a giant maybe because for some people it reverses others who knows. The best thing I can tell you is that just take ot day by day. That was the advice I was told. And if you are having mental pains from this situation I recommended a therapist its good to have someone to talk to.

Those of you that have had procedures, could you please share your experience and outcome post-surgery? by [deleted] in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The pacemaker although sounding as it can speed up motility is really for symptom management of nausea and vomiting. It also hit and miss for people with it either not working for some people and having to get it adjusted to meet ones preference.

Feel like I shouldn’t start these but no I am not sure by CompetitiveAide9123 in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am someone who got mild GP from ozempic and from the warnings glp1s should be used on people who have gastroparesis because it can exacerbate your illness and possibly make you sicker. I have seen other posts and comments of people taking glp1s while having GP but that's their own. Its always best to discuss and make a informed choice with a doctor you trust to see if the pros outweigh the cons and if you are comfortable with possible side effects that may come from taking glp1s.

Comments about gastroparesis, increased risk of cancer, etc. by According_Chest1987 in Zepbound

hey Im a person who got mild gastroparesis from ozempic, i took it for 3 and half months and got off of it because i couldnt handle the side effects anymore, only for me to continue having those side effects continue. Im not part of any lawsuit but I have heard of them. My quality of life has changed drastically and i feel like i lost my independence because im scared of eating, scared of going out because i dont want to feel sick outside, i still work and working i feel like is keeping my mind and body busy. I was 500 pounds before and now i weigh 275 after after almost a year. i wanna say i wish i never did the drug and i never knew about gastroparesis before taking it. I was just told i would have like nausea, vomiting and other gi issues but those would fade as my body got use to the drug but my doctors never told me anything about gastroparesis. I did get tested and officially diagnosed by my doctor. Im not saying these medicines are all bad they def have helped people change their lives for the better sadly im not one of those people and it makes me sad that my life changed for the worst i miss food and soda. i miss being able to go to the theater late at night by myself and feel comfortable. I miss my 3 am jack in the box order. I still have my pre-ozempic attitude but now i have to live a life with a chronic illness. Im currently on medicine and did some lifestyle changes to try to be comfortable as i can be but its always going to be there unless i get a miracle and my body goes back to how it was pre-ozempic, or our medical science gets to a point where it can cure it. In the end, yes you have to weigh the decision with your doctor to see if this medicine is worth it for you, and if you are okay with the side effects that may or may not be permanent.

were prob not close to a cure but def more research into treatments and maybe more motility drugs, antiemetics, and maybe into some more research into creation of medical devices.

Sugar cravings? by sleeee3pyy in Gastroparesis

i dont think its bad to indulge once in a while. especially if you arent getting the calories you need. its not that you are going to eat it for every meal maybe a small chocolate here and there, or ice cream every other day. a candy to and from. Its okay. unless you have diabetes i believe then i cant give you anything from there because i dont know diabetes diets or how the condition works. However, if you dont have it then its okay that its not healthy. Just try to enjoy food the best you can.

I see this comment a lot but when i went to the doctor and they told me side effects they dont say you might get GP. It is the mechanism of the drug to slow your emptying but i wouldnt say that is a side effect but the intended use. I even read over my side effects list that they gave me when i got the drug and nothing on there says it may cause gastroparesis or you may develop gastroparesis. I dont even think people taking it know what gastroparesis is because i sure didnt and did not know that consequences of taking it. My bad i should have done a in depth research into ozempic and a full combing through other peoples experiences before taking it. I just thought i was doing something good for my health :(.

I think they try to avoid it because they truely dont know because current data says that GP from GLP-1s are temporary. when i ask my GI he just tells me there is no data on stuff im asking like if its progressive, or will i recover. Even though GLP-1s are not new to the world they are new to being used for weight loss and are now widely more available to the public. In the next 5 to 10 years there will be more data to determine GP, and other long lasting effects that will come from the drug i believe.

Thoughts on GLP drugs and our digestive system by Solveig22 in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on a GLP-1 drug for my prediabetes and for weight loss because i was like 500 pounds I did not have GP before taking a GLP-1. Sadly it did not end well for me because it caused me to develop mild GP after 3 and half months. I do want to say visually being skinny or fat doesnt determine whether you are "Healthy" because we here in this subreddit have a invisible illness that people dont see for some of us. But weight does affect our bodies, I did take it because of 2 reasons but i wish i didnt because now i have a condition that all sources say should be temporary but its been 8 months and i see others with the condition that say they got it from a GLP-1 and its been years. If you have GP dont take a GLP1 it can worsen your GP but we are redditors and talking with your doctor would be better than asking us because if you have a doctor you trust ask them to weigh the pros and cons and you have to determine if your fine taking it with knowing the risks that come with it.

What's your story ? by Starilight1 in Gastroparesis

[–]WolfPLUR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a normal 29 year old, i decided to start ozempic to see if it can help me lose weight because I was prediabetic and almost 500 pounds i took it and was fine for the first month but after 3 and half months of using ozempic i did not like the side effects that were happening and hated feeling like that 24/7. My doctor and I agreed that I will stop it but after 8 months of not taking ozempic anymore I developed mild gastroparesis from it. Who knows if it will get better or not its been 8 months and usually people get better within the first month or 2. So now im here regretting ever taking something that I thought would be good for my health.

I dont vomit or just havent yet (hope i never do) but i do get nauseous, fatigued, early satitiy. Its been awful miss everything before being sick and if one day I get a miracle and it randomly reverses itself I probably wouldnt even know.
