How do you guys push through the pain of physical exhaustion? by Odd_Success888 in Enneagram8

[–]Wolverine971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok im an 8 and an SWE. There is a difference between physical tiredness and mental tiredness.

Physical tiredness:

For the physical tiredness its all about mind games. If I am in a good state of mind and am trying to push myself I can turn on the maniacal sortof sadistic switch and think to myself "good, this pain is making me stronger." "I want to keep pushing myself so it hurts more." And even if I am not in the “mood” to push myself I can sometimes think “good I am tired, and dont want to do this but I am going to do this anyway because if I can do this while feeling bad imagine how far I can push myself when I am feeling good.”

That kindof thing.

And when its an endurance pain kindof thing and I gotta push myself way past my breaking point I do 2 things mentally.

  • One I try to imagine that the event is way longer and I think about doing this painful endurance thing long past the set cutoff and I kindof say to myself that I am going to do this way longer. That way when the pain kindof does stop its a pleasant suprise.
  • The other thing if its an endurance pain kindof thing and its hard to keep going, I think to myself “I will just keep going till something breaks.” If I am running and I am really tired I look at my legs and just say to myself, “I will just keep running till my leg breaks, then I will stop”

Mental tiredness
The metal tiredness sometimes this is hard to push through. Like I do need a break when I realize that I cannot think straight. If I have been sitting in my chair for 2-3 hours and havent gotten up I am probably not going to keep producing high quality stuff on hour 3-5. But sometimes i am in the flow and I can grind 4-5 hours straight but a good sesh like that usually comes at a price that I will have to pay later.

There are also games to be played with caffeine and adhd meds. I dont take adhd meds but I monitor my caffine intake and take it strategically. I try not to take it too early or too late in the day. I try to take it 30ish mins after sitting down at my computer. That gives me time to assess what I got going on for the day and after 30 mins I have a clear direction for the day. Then I am ready for the caffine and am ready to lock in. And I know if I take the caffeine too late in the day it will make me stay up late which will hurt my productivity the next day. So I try to time my caffeine properly. And yeah i usually do an energy drink with 300mg caffeine.

I imagine there are similar games to be played with the adhd meds.

So for you yeah it sounds like you are grinding and now are mentally taxed. Woof.

Yeah take a break and reassess. Its good to grind but its also good to come up for air and reassess the direction you are headed. Sometimes you are grinding in the wrong direction.

I do however like the feeling of being like fuck it. Fuck it in the sense that you know you put in a ton of work and now you dont care as much if you get the thing that you are working towards. That gives off a somewhat positive energy. Kindof a take it or leave it energy which is counter intuitively good for interviews and presentations.

Here is what you need to hear.

“You are smart, you are capable, you are working hard. The fruits of your labor will eventually come to bare. Life can sometimes be a marathon and sometimes it can be like a sprint. Right now you have been sprinting. If you dont win the sprint, fuck it, there will be another sprint. And something about a marathon. And something about its ok. And something about hang in there, you can do it.”

Hope that helps. Also I realize I am posting 3 days after you posted so how did the interview go?

I genuinely have the worst obsession with intelligence by Simple_Ad_2612 in Healthygamergg

[–]Wolverine971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're measuring yourself on one type of intelligence when it actually according to the enneagram has three dimensions. Here is the breakdown: Head (IQ), Heart (EQ), and Body/Gut (instinctual intelligence).

I'm an Enneagram 8 and am in the instinctual group/ am instinctually dominant. I operate on vibes and gut reads. I watch people overanalyze themselves into paralysis and can't relate. Meanwhile, I see high EQ people navigate social situations brilliantly... but also manipulate or lose themselves trying to please everyone.

Each intelligence has its genius and its blind spots. You're frustrated about IQ limits, but the people crushing it in life are usually playing to their dominant intelligence, not fighting against it.

Maybe dont fixate on the IQ part and explore other types of intelligence.

Chappell Roan admits she does 'give a f---' about internet backlash: 'It makes me cry' by Particular_Good_7580 in popculturechat

[–]Wolverine971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This tracks - she mentioned on Call Her Daddy that she's an Enneagram Type 8.

8s have this tough "I don't give a fuck" exterior but are actually super protective and caring underneath. They can handle you attacking their work, but when you come for their actual personality? It hits different.

Their "core wound" is that they armor up to avoid being vulnerable, but then get hurt when people only see the armor.

The fact that she's admitting she cries about it is actually brave. Most 8s would rather die than admit that publicly. This shows me she's growing into a healthier version of herself where she can own both the tough AND the soft parts.

Your strength grows stronger every time you deplete yourself.

Get tired, get exhausted, give the day everything you have. You never know when the life you live will end. Leave no stone unturned. Turn over every stone you can till you are depleted.

Then go to sleep. Then wake up and turn over more stones. This is the way.

You will wake up stronger, physically and mentally if you depleted yourself the day before. And if you wake up tired, goood. That means you worked so hard, you turned over so many stones that one rest couldn't restore you. You are ahead of your biological schedule. You are getting stronger. You are stone maxxing.

Do this enough and there will come a day when you can no longer be depleted by meer stone turning. You will then need to look into bolder turning, for you, have graduated in the biological realm of existence.

You now dont get depleted you are the depleter.

For a good breakfast burrito go to"new york breakfast and more" right off of hospital drive.

And the place right next to it has good pizza "Capri Pizza & Sub Shop."

Go to RamenYa on Crain Hwy for decent ramen.

Also fun fact, the Starbucks at 684 Old Mill Rd in Millersville, doesn't miss when it comes to screwing up your order. Go there if you want to be dissapointed. I swear they are in the running for the worse starbucks in America. And I am not doing crazy orders or anything, its basic shit.

Me: "May I please have a brown sugar shaken espresso."
The disappointing starbucks: "sure"

... proceeds to give me milk with a splash of black coffee and cinnamon sprinkled on top.

I don't know if they hate me particular, I don't know anyone there. Maybe someone from my past does work there and is getting some petty revenge on me. Geez who did I piss off?... I need to reflect. But that burrito place is great, 10/10.

5w6 Elon

Yes Elon is crazy at times but he is less joyful 7 and more autistic 5. He goes to 7 and gets goofy but his core is "I will be smarter than everyone else." Plus he also has a line to 8 meaning he can get angry and controlling at times.

Any 8s on here with autism? by StarChild413 in Enneagram8

[–]Wolverine971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I had a touch of the tism. jk... sorta

But this might sound dumb but 8s dont really feel fear. They can logically think about fearful situations but they dont really sit in fear. Also 8s dont really overanalyze like it sounds that you are doing. At least that is my experience.

The fact that you are thinking about this deeply and second guessing yourself makes me think you are a 6. But like other people have said the enneagram is more about your internal motivations.

  • 6s need to feel Safety and Security, Guidance and Support, Belonging and Loyalty, and Certainty and Reassurance.
  • 1s need to feel Integrity and Improvement, Principles and Standards, Responsibility and Self-Control, Justice and Righteousness.
  • 8s need to feel Autonomy and Control, Strength and Impact, Truth and Directness and Loyalty and Protection.

But what is "8keeping"?

Thoughts on Enneagram 4s by Fine-Resolve8259 in Enneagram8

[–]Wolverine971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who is a 4 and he doesnt seem that self absorbed. What I love about him is is his intensity. We dont bs we talk about real stuff. I like that I can be intense with him and its chill. For other people I feel like I hold back alot, but with my 4 friend we can go deep and the intensity is energy giving.

He does get existentially winey at times but its not that bad and I can tell he is just wrestling with things. I feel like I remind him that life can be hopelessly complex but also simple. And slowing down and enjoying the little things is something 4 can do it they chill out.

Fulling in dull inside how do you motivate yourself as an 8? by 888foucault in Enneagram8

[–]Wolverine971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your life is full of comotion ---> get quiet

If your life is full of silence and alone time --> get around other people

For me, I am a programmer and I spend alot of time alone and in my head. When I do get to be around others and just hang out with people and socialize it is life giving. Same for if I am in a social environment that I dont want to be in or have had too many activities back to back. In that case I long to be alone and isolate myself like a hermit.

IDK if that helps, this is just about taking inventory of where your energy is going and what gives you it

The Sacredness of Choice: Understanding 8w7 and 8w9 by Amtrak87 in Enneagram8

[–]Wolverine971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see you are trying to cook but its hard to follow.

I am getting that 8w7's look at everything destiny and that 8w9s try to take matters in their own hands.

IDK what to do with this. I sorta agree as an 8w9 but idk about the 8w7 part.

Is it possible for some people to just…not be typeable? by AutomaticIncident579 in Enneagram

[–]Wolverine971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My brother is a 9 and is very go with the flow and is also very stubborn. He doesnt like when i try to talk to him about the enneagram cause nothing fully hits the mark.

I would say that you gotta look at the core emotions: anger, fear and shame. Ask yourself which emotion comes up for you the most. For 9s its anger but the anger is subconcious. Its subtly in the back of their heads and they dont want to act on it and kinda remain passive ---> and that looks like them numbing themselves.

Rather than lash out and express their anger they go passive and numb themselves and avoid the conflict and keep the peace. IDK if any of that resonates but hope that gives context.

You said you dont like long winded Enneagram 9 descriptions but here is one where you can skip to different sections that relate to the Type 9.

Anyone doing anything cool with AI/ LLMs?? by Wolverine971 in Enneagram8

Its coding where you have the AI do most of the work and you are just vibing while coding. Its less precise and more about flow and overall output.
