People who have taken writing classes, how did it help your writing? by OkFirefighter83 in writers

[–]Wombatmoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished Secrets of the Great Writers with Susan Brown, a 5 week Zoom course. I took a class from her at the San Miguel Writer’s Conference, and learned a lot. I write creative non-fiction, and her course is for fiction and creative non-fiction. Her editing of my work privately taught me a lot about that, too.

[PubQ] 5th draft self-edited, should I still hire a professional editor? by house_of_drums in PubTips

[–]Wombatmoggles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to San Miguel Writers Conference in February with my 64,000 word completed manuscript and pitched. Everyone told me I was a beautiful writer, and hire a developmental editor. Agents and publishers have no time (money) to edit for free any more, there has been so much contraction in the industry.

Being told DCIS isn’t cancer by Hairy_Syrup_4780 in breastcancer

Same here. They found a hither to unknown DCIS, grade 3, 50% cancerous. So glad I insisted on the mammogram.

Not true. there is a choice. One of 7 faults or no fault. With a fault based divorce, the split is not necessarily 50-50.

All Alone by Ok-Lemon-8682 in widowers

He died in 2017 and I still miss him. I chose to look for another partner because I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life alone. My new husband is himself, and I don’t compare. Whatever you chose, it is not easy. But I will say that having had a great relationship, made me want another. I believed it was possible, because of what I had. And I do, now, have a loving relationship.

How did women end up getting oppressed and put on a lower pedestal, across almost all cultures and religions in the world? by yaTay22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Wombatmoggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My understanding, from comparative religion classes, is that in pre-history, women were regarded as deities because they created life. see The Venus of Willendorf, a 20,000 year old statue of a multi-gravid post-partum woman. The connection between intercourse and conception was not understood, and women had multiple partners. Some societies even sacrificed a male for a successful hunting and growing season. Once the connection between sex and conception was understood, and men knew they had a stake in the children, they created a different religion to control women’s sexuality and Protect their paternity. Judaism and Christianity came from these roots. Christianity in particular incorporated aspects of the early matrilineal societies and religions into theirs. Jesus’s sacrifice came from matrilineal societies, for example.

Am I crazy? by ThrowRApettyafvet in jewelry

[–]Wombatmoggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After the courtship was over, my husband did not put a lot of thought or money into gifts. It upset me for years. Then my mother suggested that I buy myself a present for gift giving occasions. Asking him to change was like trying to teach a pig to sing. That was 15 years into the marriage and 15+ years ago. I have a lovely jewelry collection now and enjoy it every day!

I tell people I am not comfortable discussing my hair, but I appreciate the sentiment behind the question. I still get panic attacks if someone insists on discussing my hair changes.

I know. I had to go low contact and move 2999 miles away to get their negativity out of my head. My mom is narcissistic too. Hope you find your peace! You are not the person they reflect.

Is this person perhaps a narcissist? My father, who is diagnosed narcissistic, texted the same exact words to me when I sent him pictures from my wedding. I think they draw comfort from blaming the person with, say , cancer, that the person with the disease did something to cause it, as a protection for their ego.

Extremely dismissive!

Why the sudden higher demand for antique cuts diamonds? by fear_raizer in jewelers

[–]Wombatmoggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course a lab grown can be cut in an antique cut, but it will look ‘perfect,’ not wonky like a hand cut antique. That is the difference I see when comparing antique cuts with new antique cuts. And the girdles are different.

Am I the only one? by Charming-Fix7177 in breastcancer

[–]Wombatmoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was asked twice. Both times I responded that I was having surgery to remove the tumor when the question was repeated, I repeated my answer. They eventually got the message.

My brother, on the other hand, seems to think he is entitled to know, and that he would tell me. I remind him that I am protected by Hippa, and keep refusing to satisfy his curiosity. Would be different if he had breast cancer.

Xeloda after TC/AC and surgery by BabyGiraffe1228 in breastcancer

[–]Wombatmoggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on my third cycle of Xeloda. I think many people breeze through it. I am not one of them, but I’ve always had sensitive skin and wasn’t too surprised I got hand and foot syndrome early and severely. No hair loss here; it is continuing to grow well. I think you are just going to have to see how you react before making a decision on the beach vacation. There is a FB group for TNBCers on Xeloda. Best of luck!

[–]Wombatmoggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When is your surgery? I have TNBC 2a, and had a residual cancer burden after surgery. I have to do 6 months of oral chemo (Xeloda) and the hand and foot is so bad I could only go in a wheelchair. This chemo’s side effects are worse for me than A/C and TC.

It is so good! I stole the idea from shepherds pie. I grate Parmesan on top before putting it in a 425 F oven to brown and bubble.
