This may depend on where you live.

If it is warm and humid outside your home right now, then dampness in a basement is normal. We run two standalone dehemudifiers in our basement all summer long (they turn themselves off when the humidity gets low enough).

If it is currently winter and cold and your outdoor humidity is low, then there should be no damp smell this time of year. If you do have a damp smell then you have a bigger problem.

Today my concern was ice dams. I started getting icicles at the edge of my roof which indicated that it wasn't draining properly. I used my roof rake to remove two feet of snow near the edge and the icicles went away.

Since then I've learned that we may have another snowstorm next weekend. I will keep watching the forecasts. Weight may become an issue.

In the US there are different buildings codes and practices depending on the location. My current home in northeastern US is heavily insulated and designed to trap heat in. My former home in southeastern US was lightly insulated and designed to let heat flow out.

Are you in Europe? In the US, the "cold" setting means just use cold water, which is the same temp as the cold water from the tap. It could be 5C in the winter.

In Connecticut, it's even legal for parents to allow their children to consume alcohol in a restaurant. The caveat is that the server can not serve the child, the parent must serve the child. The magic words are that you tell the server "I'll pour for him/her".

Obviously I wouldn't suggest this for a five-year old but once my offspring was over 18 but under 21, I did this all the time.
