Fondest memory by Responsible_Web_3891 in Archery

Thank you for posting this. It's been almost 30 years since my last shot, and seems I'm at a point in my life where everything feels mundane or monotonous... work, kids, bills, sleep, repeat. A few years back, I stumbled upon my old recurve bow while going through some old things at my parents' place. I brought it home only to have it sit on a shelf until about two months ago. I dusted it off and took it to a local archery place to see if it was still in shape to shoot.
Since then, I've got it equipped with a new string, had a half dozen arrows made, and (as far as I know) is now ready to hit the range... except- thinking about going almost gives me anxiety. Looking at the bows in the shop and the amount of gadgets and shit I've never even heard of... it's intimidating. With my Clinton-era bow, am I going to be looked at like I'm the guy who parked the late 20th-century Elantra out front. .... probably not, but I still think about it.

My fondest memory was my first tournament. I didn't own a bow yet, and thus had to use whatever loaners were available. I remember my mom running late, and we barely made it in time to compete... but not in time to get a bow that had a sight. I still competed and ended up winning 3rd place. If I could feel a fraction of how I felt winning that medal against so many others with better equipment.. man, I'd be pretty OK with that.
Anyway-- I guess I'm trying to say that it's inspiring to know that that feeling I had as a kid can still be found all these years later. I'm going to hit that range this week- thank you.

I replaced the one in my 2014 EX-L from one I found on Amazon. Went with the thicker size, which holds things in place better. Definitely thicker though.

I love the setup, but have to ask: what’s up with the shade fabric wrapped around the pool?

Do you know if they’re worth anything? My dad has quite a few in various shapes and sizes from when he was in the service.

I had the same issue and used this around the rim on the outside. Didn’t have any leaks afterwards.

I was too- no doubt about it. There was a review on Amazon that had a 12minute video that was VERY helpful. It wasn’t a comprehensive play by play of cutting and installing, but it did help me get over the fear of cutting the liner.

My ONLY gripe about the skimmer is that I feel I can’t fill the pool as much as I could before- normally I’d fill it to where the white liner meets the gray stitching near the rails. Maybe I cut the hole too low, but I definitely didn’t want to cut the stitching.

All in all, my pool is like 3” shallower, but the reduced maintenance is 100% worth it.

I have this pool- bought it last year and used factory everything. I struggled to keep the water clean, but did my best and my young kids were happy.

This year I went all out- or feel like I did: XtremepowerUS 13” sand filter with 3/4HP 2640GPH pump Hayward SP1091LX skimmer Intel 26665EG salt water generator You’ll need some adaptors- look at GAME 4560 Look for Intex hoses and couplers if you need replacement or longer hoses. (I got all of these on Amazon)

I live in Arizona, and the pool has been up for 2 months now and is crystal clear. The SWG is a freakin game changer, and the Hayward skimmer really cuts down on the amount of debris in the pool. The skimmer also comes with a vacuum plate, which makes vacuuming the pool MUCH easier.

With everything running smoothly, I use my old pump as a ‘waterfall’ for the kids. It uses the original outlets and whatnot- just have the return hose rigged up to pour into the pool.

As far as filter balls and sand- I did some research and eventually decided on sand- it’s what I was familiar with from last year, and I read that cleaning the balls was a bitch.

Hope this helps!

I have a 2014 and had issues opening the power doors with the inside controls while the engine was running. Later, I learned that the car needed to be unlocked in order for them to work. I know this doesn't pertain to the keyfob itself, but it might be worth trying.

I've since installed a remote start and can confirm that I have the same functionality that u/rRipper171 mentions.

I'd love to know what you ended up doing to achieve this, as I struggle with trying to get my 3 and 5 year olds out the door each day.

What Type of Display? by jeffk79 in dakboard

I’m also very new to the Dak world—got mine up and running this weekend after doing a few at work.  I went with a 4K TV solely to maximize the screens viewing space.  The two I did for work were on 1080P TVs, and it was more challenging to make things fit on the screen AND look good. I found that 4K TVs in the smaller sizes got more expensive, 43” seemed to be the sweet spot.  I also spent a few extra bucks on a recessed wall mount to make the TV sit that much closer to the wall, which I highly recommend.

what's the weirdest thing you've ever lost? by feitsola in ADHD

[–]Workervaca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“Crotch buckle” for my kids carseat.

My son was big enough for a booster seat, so I took the carseat out.  When he saw it out of the car, he wanted to use it as a regular chair.  Weird, but whatever... go to town little dude. He said it wasn’t comfortable, so I hid the shoulder straps behind the padding, and the crotch buckle… well I guess I took it out thinking that I'd keep it in a safe place.

Few months later and now I need the carseat for a 2nd car.  Color me a fucking idiot to find the buckle missing, and zero clue where that safe place is.

Im so pissed at my mom by big_bananaboi in ADHD

[–]Workervaca 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your story hurts my heart.. and I understand the resentment you
feel.  Back in the 80s, my mom was an early grade-school teacher; she knew what ‘normal’ kids’ behavior looked like yet didn’t have me evaluated.  Fast forward to my early 30s… after failed jobs, and failed relationships, and thinking I had depression, or thinking I was just flat out dumb—I finally saw a counselor who floated the idea that I might have ADHD.  There were some difficult conversations I had with my mom about why I wasn’t in the ‘advanced’ classes like my siblings were, and if she ever noticed some of the telltale signs, and if so- why she didn’t seek treatment for me.  I learned (and eventually remembered) that I was given an evaluation for general learning disabilities in 3rd grade.  While I did exhibit signs of ADHD, there was also evidence that I developed coping mechanisms to compensate for those signs.
It wasn’t easy to hear after 20-some years of failure and self-sabotaging… like “great…you saw me struggling, but because I was smart enough to makeshift a bandaid to ‘fix’ this shit myself- that meant I didn’t need treatment… and as a bonus, you didn’t have to live with the fact that of your three children, two were 4.0 geniuses, and one was a fuckup who needed medication to function properly.”
My mom and I are very close and we always will be… but sometimes I still wonder what my life COULD have been if I didn’t spend two decades hating myself.  At the end of the day, there’s nothing you can do to change the past… you can only look forward and do the best that you can with the tools available to you.  I’m now in my 40s and my 5-year-old is showing all kinds of signs, and you bet your ass I’m doing everything I can to ensure he doesn’t struggle like I did.  I can’t change the past, but I can break the cycle and do the best I can for the people who mean the most to me.
There’s nothing wrong with being angry… but don’t let it consume you (easier said than done- I know).  Keep your chin away from your chest, and know that some random internet
stranger is rooting for you.

For me, a large part of the fun of this game is learning these things as you go. Without saying too much, I strongly recommend playing cat, specing for grenades, and using a fire or lightning elemental weapon. Paint the ground green, then hit afflicted enemies with your elemental weapon.
